OAK HILL — Ligao Chen, 78, of Oak Hill, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012.

John Madison Critchley

DANESE — John Madison Critchley, 74, of Danese, passed away on Sunday, December 2, 2012, at Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital, following a long illness.

Born November 29, 1938, in Raleigh County, WV, he was the son of the late Richard Alfred “Buzz” and Mary Elizabeth Carter Critchley.

John was a miner for 38 years and a member of the UMWA. He loved farming and his cows.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Genevieve Fletcher and Thelma Ausmus, and a grandson, Matt Blair, and son-in-law, David Smith.

Survivors include his wife, Hilda of Danese; children, Steve Critchley of Lakewood, Ohio, Karen Smith of Pulaski, Va., Tony and wife, Nikki Critchley, of Danese, Robert and wife, Tressa Critchley, of Danese, and Donna Sue and husband, Mike Galford, of Union; special former daughter-in-law, Mary Critchley Hundley of Corliss; four sisters, Joanne Lehet of Parma, Ohio, Betty Seldomridge of Alderson, Dorothy “Sissy” Sheaves of Brecksville, Ohio, and Alice Wolfe of Cleveland, Ohio; four brothers, Kenneth and Delbert Critchley of Danese, Jackie Critchley of Macedonia, Ohio, and Richard Critchley of Lexington, S.C.; five  grandchildren, Mark Critchley, Brian Critchley, Little Tony Critchley, John Blair and Jennifer and husband, Robert Amick; and five great-grandchildren, Braedyn Tharp, Macie Critchley, Laiken Critchley, Braelynn Critchley and special great-grandchild, Hunter Amick.

Special thanks to the 3rd floor physicians and entire medical staff of Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital for their loving care and service.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, December 8, 2012, at the Wallace & Wallace Chapel in Rainelle, with Pastor Floyd Bolen and special friend Mr. Roger Eades officiating. Burial will follow at the John M. Critchley Homeplace Cemetery in Danese.

Pallbearers will be Mark Critchley, Brian Critchley, Little Tony Critchley, John Blair, Rick Critchley, and Michael Shumate.

Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m., Friday, December 7, 2012, at the funeral home.
