Bonnie G. Aliff

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Bonnie Guard Aliff, 89, of Jacksonville, formerly of Mullens, passed away on Tuesday, December 4, 2012, following a short illness.

Born June 3, 1923, in Powhatan, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Silas Luther Guard and Lillie Ora Miller. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert (Bob) Aliff, as well as two brothers and one sister.

She was a 1942 graduate of Herndon High School, Herndon, W.Va. After graduation she went to Hagerstown, Md., to work as a riveter for Fairchild Aircraft. She continued in that position until the end of WWII, at which time she returned to WV and married the love of her life, Bob, who had just returned from serving in the Army.

Bonnie worked for many years at GC Murphy Co. Her department was “toys” and all the kids in town loved to visit her and check out all the new toys.

In 2005 she relocated to Jacksonville, to be near her daughter and family. She always said she didn’t really like Florida and that WV would always be her home. She loved the “West Virginia Mountains.” Bonnie enjoyed quilting and crocheting but in later years rheumatoid arthritis crippled her fingers and she was no longer able to do what she loved.

She was a member of the First Church of God, Corinne, W.Va., and had a very special bond with its members.

Those left to cherish her memory are her only daughter Linda Hight (Dean) of Jacksonville; two grandchildren, Jason Hight (Kelly) and Jennifer Fowler (Justin), and three great-grandchildren, Bradley Hight, Lindsay and Jessica Fowler, all of Jacksonville.

Arrangements in Jacksonville are by George H. Hewell and Son Funeral Homes.

A viewing for Bonnie will be held at Tankersley Funeral Home, Mullens, on Friday, December 7, from 6 to 8 p.m. Graveside services will be at Roselawn Cemetery, Princeton, W.Va., at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 8, 2012, with Pastor Evelyn Williamson officiating.

Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Dean Hight, Jason Hight, Bradley Hight, Justin Fowler, Lacy Hight, Bill Hight and Mark Wilson.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to First Church of God, Box 15, Corinne, WV  25826.

A special thank you from the family to Community Hospice of Northeast Florida for the wonderful care and support given to Bonnie and her family.
