Bobby Ray ‘Buck’ Buckland
Bobby Ray “Buck” Buckland, 78, of Shady Spring, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, Nov. 19, 2012, at his home, after a courageous battle with cancer with his family by his side.
Bobby was born in Pemberton, W.Va., on Sept. 17, 1934, to the late Kermit Buckland and Mollie Loyd Buckland.
After completing his GED, he then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, where he served in the Vietnam War and then retired after 22 years of service. He then came home to West Virginia, where he worked a short while for Sparks TV and Appliance and Eastern Coal Company’s Affinity Mine.
Bobby then started his own business, Bucks Appliance Service, which he operated for many years. Later in life he went to work for National TV and Appliance as the warehouse manager through June of this year.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his three brothers, Billie, Gene and Jerry Buckland, and two sisters, Katherine and Rebecca Buckland.
Those survivors left to cherish his memories are his three children: Bobby Buckland of Shady Spring, Colleen Buckland of White Oak, and Lou Ann Cook and her husband, Bob Cook, of Beckley; former wife and mother of his children, Ellen Buckland of White Oak; his four grandchildren, Nicholas Buckland of Dublin, Ohio, Patrick Buckland and wife, Sarah, of Pennacle, N.C., Travis Buckland of Fall River, Mass., and Leslie Cook of Beckley; one great-grandson, Patrick Buckland Jr.; his four sisters: Faye Ames of Golden, Colo., Patsi Trail of Lexington, S.C., Linda Moran of Beckley, and Nancy Benge of Beckley; a brother, Jackie Buckland and wife, Barbara, of Waynesville, Ohio; two sisters-in-law, Betty Buckland of Crab Orchard, and Lillian Buckland of Midway. Also very dear to his heart were his many nieces and nephews and close friends and family.
In keeping with his wishes he has been cremated and a memorial service will be held at Bible Baptist Church in MacArthur, in which he had been attending with his family. Services will be held on Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012, at 1 p.m., with Pastor Wayne Holder and Pastor Thomas Sheppard officiating. The family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m., in which services will follow after.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made to Bible Baptist Church — Bible Printing Ministry Christmas Offering in his memory. You can send donations to P.O. Box 1433, Beckley, WV 25802.
The Oak Hill VFW Post 3110 will conduct Military Final Rites after the memorial services at the church.
