Dreama Lee Alvis

RUPERT — After a long battle with emphysema, it is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Dreama Lee Alvis....mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother. We rest in the comfort of knowing that she is with our Lord and Savior in Heaven, and her struggle is over. A longtime resident of Rupert, Dreama passed away on

November 19, 2012, at Greenbrier Valley Medical Center in Ronceverte.  She was in her 78th year.

Dreama was born on September 15, 1934, in Indiana. She was the daughter of John and Wanda Jones. In 1954 she married James A. Alvis Jr. and resided in Rupert.

Before her illness, she was an active member of Bascom United Methodist Church of Rupert, where she was organist, pianist and choir director for over 50 years. Dreama also loved to participate in the church handbell choir. She was also one of the first "pink ladies" at Greenbrier Valley Medical Center. She was a very kind and gentle lady to the very end.

Those left to cherish her memory are, two daughters: Kathy Alvis Barnes (Bob) of Charlotte, N.C., Cindy Alvis Vance (Tom) of Rupert; a son, Jimmy Alvis III (Jane James and children) of Rupert; a  sister, Wanda Sue Nester of Huntington; four grandchildren: Tommy Vance (Sabrina), James Alvis IV, Garrett and Sully Alvis; two great-grandchildren: Brayden and Addyson Vance; a nephew: Steven Nester; two great-nephews: Trey and Hayden Nester; and one great-niece: Alivia Nester.

Services will be at 2 p.m., Saturday, November 24, 2012, at Wallace & Wallace Chapel in Rainelle, with Pastor Stanley Clark officiating. Burial will follow at Wallace Memorial Cemetery, Clintonville.

Friends may visit with the family from 12 to 2 p.m. (2 hours prior) at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Steven Nester, Tommy Vance, James and Garrett Alvis, Sully Alvis, Trey and Hayden Nester.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bascom United Methodist Church Piano Fund, PO Drawer L, Rupert, WV 25984.

And so now we must say goodbye... “To live in hearts you leave behind, to see the best in others, to try to live for Christ...What more can we ever ask....”

Louella Margaret Bennett

Louella Margaret Bennett, age 54, of Cool Ridge, passed away on Sunday, November 18, 2012, at her home.

Born on December 8, 1957, in Pluto, W.Va., she was the daughter of Ruby Bennett of Beaver, and the late John David Bennett.

Louella was a homemaker, and had made her home at Cool Ridge, having been reared at the Old Eccles Road area.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Melvin Bennett.

Surviving other than her mother include her daughter, Danita Simmons and her husband Daniel of Cool Ridge; three brothers, Gary Bennett of Daniels, Raydean Bennett and his wife Linda of Beaver, Ernie Bennett of Beaver; a sister Loretta Bennett of Beckley; seven grandchildren, Jared, Brittany, Matthew, Makayla, Danielle, Gabrielle, and Allyssa. Louella’s companion Calvin Hatfield of Cool Ridge.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home Shady Spring Chapel on Saturday, November 24, 2012 at 1 p.m., with Rev. Orville Setliff officiating. Burial will follow at the Bennett Family Cemetery at Bennett Mountain.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m.

Family members will serve as pallbearers.

James Franklin ‘Jim’ Griffey

OAK HILL — James Franklin “Jim” Griffey, 56, of Oak Hill, died on Friday, November 16, 2012, at Oak Hill.

Born October 22, 1956 at Gatewood, he was the son of the late Frank and Jessie Rhodes Tincher Griffey.

He was a disabled laborer for the steel building industry.

Survivors include two daughters, Ronni Ruff of Oak Hill and Stephanie Griffey of Gastonia, N.C., special friend, Phyllis Bibb of Oak Hill, two brothers, Wesley Tincher of Fayetteville, and Wayne Griffey of Naoma, three sisters, Lois Thompson of Oak Hill, Bonnie Prather of Charleston and Joan Johns of Catharpin, Va. and five grandchildren.

Mr. Griffey was cremated. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Mary Hope Maynor Link

NEW MARTINSVILLE — Mary Hope Maynor Link, 83, of New Martinsville, passed away on November 14, 2012, in Woodsfield, Ohio.

Mary was born November 28, 1928, in Raleigh County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late William Perry and Fanny Estaline Maynor.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband James Melvin Link and brothers Eldred and Ivan Maynor.

Surviving is one son James Mark Link (Sandra) of Little River, S.C., two daughters, Marla Link Potts (Francis) of Hannibal, Ohio and Melissa Link Selfridge of Nashville, Tenn.; eight grandchildren also survived.

Mary was a member of the First Baptist Church of New Martinsville where a memorial service was held 10 a.m., Monday, November 19, 2012. In her honor, a reception followed, where the family received friends.

Pamela Gaye Clay Morris

Pamela Gaye Clay Morris, 58, of Oak Hill, died on Sunday, November 18, 2012 at her home.

Born July 26, 1954 at Pax, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Nora Ann Ratliff Clay.

She a former cook/waitress for Tom's of Oak Hill.

A daughter, Michelle Lynn, brothers, James Clay and Johnny Ratliff and a sister, Dreama Haggerty preceded her in death as did her adoptive parents, Robert and Myrtle Ratliff.

Survivors include her husband, Charles R. Morris, children, Robert Owens, Ronnie Owens, Sidney Owens, Michael Morris, Charles Rene Morris and Cici Morris, stepson, Cecil Gilliam, two sisters, Ida Lively and Shirley Payne and brother, Albert Ratliff.

Also surviving are grandchildren, Brandy, Dean, Ronnie and Caloeb, great granddaughter, Emma Mae, nephew, Ronnie and niece, Lisa.

In keeping with her wishes, Pamela was cremated. There will be no visitation or service.

Sandra Kay Perez

Sandra Kay Perez, age 69, of Blue Jay, W.Va., passed away at the Bowers Hospice House in Beckley on Friday, November 16, 2012.

Born on August 20, 1943, in Pemberton, W.Va., she was the daughter of Shirley McVey Testement of Blue Jay, and the late Henderson Testement.

Mrs. Perez was a homemaker, and had attended the Pemberton Baptist Church. She had made her home at Blue Jay for the past 40 years.

Mrs. Perez was preceded in death by her husband Ronald Perez.

In addition to her mother, those survivors left to cherish her memory include her children: Stephen Perez and his wife Carolyn of Blue Jay, Gregory Perez of Blue Jay, and Angela Perez of Charlottesville, Virginia.

Brothers, Johnny Testement and his wife Lee of Texas, Ricky Testement and his wife Brenda of Oak Hill, Chester Testement and his wife Ann of Pemberton, and David Testement  of Blue Jay.

Sisters: Loretta Buzbee of Florida, Pauline Wilson of Virginia, Tammy Denslow of Florida,  Brenda Testement of Florida, and Bonnie Crews of Princewick.

Grandchildren, Jessie, Jennifer, Heather, and James. A great-grandchild Skylar.

A memorial service will be conducted at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley on Friday, November 23, 2012, at 3 p.m. with Rev. James Ford officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home 30 minutes prior to the memorial service.

Otis Franklin Vipperman

VASS BRANCH — Otis Franklin Vipperman, age 72 of Vass Branch,  went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 18, , at his home following a long illness.

Born on January 17, 1940, at Maxwell Hill, he was the son of the late Maude Scott Vipperman and the late Bennonie T. Vipperman.

Mr. Vipperman was an auto body shop manager for Grady Whitlock Ford in Beckley for many years.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, a sister, and two grandsons, Thomas “Eddie” Biggs and Ronnie Chapman.

Those survivors left to cherish his memory include his wife of 55 years,   Evelyn Robinson Vipperman, his children; Roberta Clark and her husband James of Mt. Hope, Sandra Vipperman of Richmond, Va., Otis Dewayne Vipperman and his wife Diane of Oceana, Theresa Biggs and her husband Thomas of Alderson, Allen Vipperman of Maryland, Timothy Vipperman and his wife Ellen of Rupert; a sister, Merna Vipperman of Crana, Va.; nine grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley on Friday, November 23, 2012 at 11 a.m., with Pastor Jonathan Hunt officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Beckley.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. until service time on Friday.

Pallbearers will be James Duguid, Herbert Claypool, Thomas Vass, Eric Robinson, Jerry Tyree Jr. and Mike Walker.
