Russell Robert O’Neal

Russell Robert O’Neal, 97, of Crab Orchard, passed away Wednesday, April 10, 2013, in a local nursing center.

Born November 7, 1914, in Crab Orchard, he was the son of the late Howard and Daisy Snuffer O’Neal.

Russell was a retired accountant for Carolina Supermarket. He was minister for the Church of the Brethren at Crab Orchard and Oakvale as well as serving as chaplain at Pinecrest Hospital.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel O’Neal and daughter, Karen O’Neal.

He is survived by three nephews, Larry Priddy and wife Janie of Crab Orchard, Don Priddy and wife Vicky of Prosperity and Max Priddy and wife Glenna of Crab Orchard; close family friends, Jim and Sue Campbell and caregivers, Linda Muncy, Joe and Karen Birchfield, Sue Lilly, Delores Lowe and Christy Googe.

Funeral services will be 12 p.m. Friday, April 12, 2013, in the Calfee Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor David Shumate and Pastor Owen Stultz officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park.

Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to service on Friday.

Pallbearers will be Larry, Don, Max and Scott Priddy, Jim Campbell, Joe Birchfield and Mike Westmoreland.

Dorothy Eladene Pickle

Dorothy Eladene Pickle, 91, of Beckley, began a new life in a better world on Monday, April 8, 2013, following a stroke. She died peacefully at The Greystone Inn where she had made her home for the last few months.

Eladene was born on September 27, 1921, in Princeton, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late James and Ina Pickle.

She was a member of the Sophia United Methodist Church where she served as church treasurer for many years. Eladene began her working career at Raleigh Smokeless Coal and then on to Columbia Gas where she worked until her retirement. Eladene loved playing bridge. She enjoyed being a member of Circle No. 6 and Beta Sigma Phi.

Eladene was preceded in death by her parents Ina Bales Pickle and James Elbert Pickle. A sister, Melba Trumon Pickle Henderson and her husband George B. Henderson.

Those left to cherish her memory include her nephew, George Elbert Henderson of Cleveland, Ohio; cousins Fred Bales of Richmond, Va. and Patsy and Elgie Crouse of Marion, Va.; her two caregivers Kathy Baker and Linda Hart.

Services will be 2 p.m. today, Thursday, April 11, 2013, in the chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ernie Jarrell officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home.

A special thank you goes out to the staff at The Greystone Inn for all the love and care they showed Miss Pickle.
