Arthur C. Ayers

HINTON — Arthur C. Ayers, 81, of Hinton, passed away Wednesday, April 10, 2013, at the Bowers Hospice House, following a long illness.

Gilmer Ray Ayers

On Monday, April 8th, 2013, our most cherished, Gilmer Ray Ayers, passed away at his home on Fortuna Lane in Eccles, following a short illness. He was 69 years of age. 

The first of three children, Gilmer was born on January 4th, 1944, at Beckley. He is the son of Gilmer Adrion and Rujean Bragg Ayers of Eccles. In addition to his parents, Gilmer leaves his brother Charles Ayers and his wife, Naomi of Eccles and Kenneth Ayers and his wife, Helen of Lester. 

Gilmer spent his childhood at Eccles. He was a graduate of Trap Hill School, Class of 1962. A veteran of the U.S. Army, Gilmer was a coal miner, retiring from Pittston Coal. He had 38 years in the mining industry. 

Gilmer loved the woods. He loved to hunt, fish and spend time at the Ayers Camp on the Greenbrier.    

From a previous marriage Gilmer had three children, Chuck, Randy and Lisa Ayers. There are several grandchildren. This family resides in North Carolina. 

On August 6th, 1982, Gilmer married Patricia Sue Keener. To this union was born Mollie and Adrian. Mollie is married to Brandon Coleman and they make their home at Bolt; Adrian is engaged to Olivia, he makes his home at Fairdale. There are three grandchildren, Gavin, Keaton, and Kyler. Sadly, Patricia died on June 8th, 2003. Patricia leaves her daughter Melanie Hinzeman and her husband, Brandon and their children, Jeremy, Dana, Rebecca and Samuel.  

Gilmer will be deeply missed by his family. May He Rest In Peace. To Mollie and Adrian he was the touchstone to their mother.   

On Friday, April 12th, at 3 p.m. there will be a “Service of Remembrance” at the Melton Mortuary Chapel, with the Rev. Garry Hall officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the service hour. Gilmer will be laid to rest at the Oak Grove Cemetery near his beloved Patricia.
