Elsie Tate Harrah
PINE HILL — Elsie Tate Harrah, 85, of Pine Hill died Saturday, April 6, 2013, at the Summers Co. Appalachian Regional Hospital, following a short illness.
Born August 25, 1927, in Pemberton, she was a daughter of the late Andrew Tate and Lydia Ellen Guess Tate.
She was a member of the Friendship Baptist Church and enjoyed attending services as long as her health permitted. Elsie obtained her GED degree in 1996 at the age of 68 and continued her education by mentoring students pursuing their GED degree twice a week. She enjoyed collecting dolls, quilting and spending time with her family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Harry H. Harrah, July 10, 1995; five brothers and one sister.
Those left to cherish her memory include four sons, Johnny and Ronnie Harrah of Hilldale, Leonard Harrah of Pipestem and Robert Harrah and wife Linda of Lerona; six daughters, Lena Brookman and Bonnie Harrah of Hilldale, Sherry Phillips and husband Jimmy Ray of Lerona, Carolyn Allen of Beckley, and Brenda Harrah of Hilldale and Wanda Sea and husband Edward of Hinton; twenty-nine grandchildren; fifty-six great-grandchildren; eleven great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Shirley Ward and Margaret Surbaugh both of Hinton.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 9, 2013, at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel with Pastor Joe Spencer officiating. Burial will follow in the Claypool Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral parlors. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Barbara Jean Lane
Barbara Jean Lane, 68, of Cool Ridge, West Virginia, won her 4-year battle with cancer on Thursday, April 4, 2013, when she left the arms of her loving family and entered into the arms of the Lord.
Born on May 17, 1944, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, she was the daughter of the late Lyle and Juanita Skelton.
Barbara married the love of her life, Jimmie D. Lane of Cool Ridge, WV, on February 16, 1962, in Plattsmouth, NE. They spent 51 years happily married and had three children who brought great joy to their lives.
Survivors include her husband Jimmie, son Darrel Lane and wife Donna of Fort Ashby, WV, daughter Kelly Legg and husband Randy of Mt. Lookout, WV, grandchildren Brandon and Lane Lilly, Ric’Kell Lusk (Cody), and Jared Lane. Also survived by a sister Patricia Strickland (Robert), Linita Chapman (adopted daughter), Cheryl Wood (adopted sister), one of her special angels, Carol Lyn Lane, and cousins and aunts in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her son Jeffrey Scott, a sister Linda, a brother Ronnie, and father and mother-in-law Frank and Nola Lane.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She enjoyed reading, sewing, painting, and spending time with family and friends. Her grandchildren were very dear to her heart; she spent countless hours reading, painting, and crafting with them to lay the foundation to prepare them for their future education. She also enjoyed spending time with friends and a very special group of military families.
The family would like to express their deep appreciation to all the personnel at Raleigh Regional Cancer Center, Eppy’s Drug, and Jarrell’s Pharmacy.
Services will be held at the Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home, Shady Spring Chapel, on Monday, April 8, 2013, at 1 p.m. with Jack Barber officiating. Family and friends may visit with the family beginning at 11 a.m. prior to the services. Burial will follow at the Mt. View Cemetery at Cool Ridge, WV.
