WASHINGTON, D.C. — Carol A. Alston, 70, of Washington, formerly of Mt. Hope, died Wednesday, January 23, 2013.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, January 31, 2013, at East Washington Heights Baptist Church, Washington, DC.

Evelyn Tilley ‘Eggy’ Callison

CORLISS — Evelyn Tilley "Eggy" Callison, 91, of Corliss, was called home by her Heavenly Father on Sunday, January 27, 2013, after Clostridium Difficile (C-Diff), ravished her colon over an eight week period.

Born January 5, 1922, to the late Claude and Eula Meadows Tilley. Evelyn was also preceded in death by husband, John W (Jack) Callison, sister, Bessie Holliday, brothers, Jay and Harold Tilley and grandson, John Callison.

Evelyn was retired from the Kanawha County Board of Education where she served as a Teacher’s Aide for 20 years at Pratt Elementary School. She was an active member of Boomer Baptist Church and during the Summer, while living at the homestead she loved at Corliss, attended Hilton Village Baptist Church. She was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Winolia Chapter #59, Mount Hope, W.Va.

Left to cherish her memory and wonderful times are sons, Leslie Carroll (Joe) and his wife, Betty, of Powellton, David Lloyd and his wife, Shirley, of Griffithsville, Carl Edward and his wife, Marilyn, of Hurricane and Mark Alan and his wife, Sue of Mallory; sisters, Dora Lee Campbell of Foster and Doris Ann McKenzie and her husband, Curtis of Concord, N.C.; seven grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. Evelyn is also survived by Terry Adams and his wife, Marsha of Corliss. Without Terry, who Evelyn considered one of her sons, she could not have spent her last several summers at the farm she loved. Also her beloved companion Muffin.

A celebration of Evelyn’s life will be Friday, February 1, 2013, at 1 p.m. at the Hilton Village Baptist Church, Hilton Village, W.Va., with the Rev.  Eric Keister officiating.  Burial will follow at Restlawn Memorial Gardens at Victor.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at O'Dell Funeral Home, Montgomery and also one hour prior to service at the church.

Roger White Cummings

OAK HILL — Roger White Cummings, 95, of Oak Hill, died on Sunday, January 27, 2013, at the Glen Burnie Nursing Home in Richmond, Va.

Born September 7, 1917, at Wikel, W.Va., he was the son of the late Andrew and Marie Nelsie Whittaker Cummings.

He was a member of the Oak Hill Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Shirley Donnelly Sunday School class.

Roger was a 1937 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School in Beckley. He was retired from Riverton Coal Company at Krebs.

He was preceded in death by his first wife of 45 years, Alma Pauline Copeland Cummings and his son, Michael Charles Cummings preceded him in death as did sisters, Bessie Cummings and Nona Arthur and brothers, Stanley, Selden and Compton Cummings.

Survivors include his wife, Iona Miller Cummings, a granddaughter, Cindi Cummings Jones and husband, Robert, four great grandchildren, Conard Michael Jones and wife, Ashley, Jonathan Jones, Zachary Jones and Rachel Jones and great-great grandson, Conard Criss Jones, all of Goochland, Va.

He is also survived by a stepdaughter, Joyce Kincaid and her husband, Carroll, along with their family: sons, Scott Kincaid, his wife, Rose and their children, Matthew and Rachel and Danny Kincaid; and daughter, Crystal Lewis, her husband, John and their daughter, Hannah; former daughter-in-law, Kay Criss and her son, Scott and his family as well as several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be on Thursday, January 31, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill, with Pastor David Sneed and Pastor Bryan Knight officiating. Burial will be at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill.

Friends may call one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the funeral home.

Lafonda Denton, age 67, passed away Monday, January 28, 2013, at Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital.

Lillie ‘Dolly’ Elizabeth Ellison

PETERSTOWN — Lillie “Dolly” Elizabeth Ellison, 95, of Peterstown, passed away, Sunday, January 27, 2013, in Knoxville, Tenn.

Born November 23, 1917, in Greenville, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Henry H. and Lula Burnette Long.

Dolly and her husband, Charlie, ran CR Ellison’s General Merchandise in Ballard, W.Va.,  for over 40 years. She was a member of First Missionary Baptist Church of Ballard, a longtime member of the Ballard Women’s Club, the Hans Creek CEO’s and the Peterstown Chapter #118 Order of the Eastern Star.

Dolly was a 1935 graduate of the Greenville High School.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Charlie Russell Ellison; a sister, Margie Broyles; three brothers, Burnard Long, Frank Long and Carl Long; and her son-in-law, Frank Owen Belcher Jr.

Those left to cherish her memory include a daughter, Nancy Belcher of Knoxville, Tenn.; two granddaughters, Kara Belcher Cooley and husband, Matt of Nashville, Tenn., and Laurie Belcher Meyers and husband, Bret of Knoxville, Tenn., and five great grandchildren, Maggie Ellison Cooley, Lillie Clare Cooley, Caroline Marie Meyers, Molly Elizabeth Meyers, and Charlie Owen Meyers; and her sister-in-law, Virginia Long of Ballard.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Thursday, January 31st, 2013, at Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Steve Howdock officiating. The burial will follow at the Orchard Cemetery.

 COLUMBUS, Ohio — Mary Elizabeth Meadows, 73, of Columbus, passed away Saturday, January 26, 2013.

Services will be 12 noon Wednesday, January 30, 2013, at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley, with Pastor Jimmy Lester and Pastor Don Kelly officiating. Burial will follow at Hannah Lilly Cemetery, Odd, W.Va.

KIMBERLY — Ron "Moose" Dale Patrick, 43, of Kimberly, died on Monday, January 28, 2013.

Edwin Ray ‘Eddie’ Pauley

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. — Edwin Ray “Eddie” Pauley, 54, formerly of Beckley, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013, at his residence.

He was born September 8, 1958, in Winfield, Ala., the son of the late Rev. George Elden Pauley Sr. and Dorothy Riggs Pauley.

Eddie was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School in Beckley, attended Freewill Baptist Bible College in Nashville, Tenn., and Beckley College. He also served his funeral apprenticeship with Blue Ridge Funeral Home in Beckley.

He had previously worked at Kroger’s in Beckley and at Bi-Lo, The Daily Independent and Family Dollar Store before retiring due to ill health. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church. Eddie was a sports enthusiast, especially a West Virginia fan and an avid Nascar fan.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013, at Faith Baptist Church in Kannapolis, with a funeral service to follow at 7 p.m., officiated by Pastors James Pauley, Roger Pauley and Scott Pauley. The family will also receive friends on Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013 at Cranberry Baptist Church, 201 Cranberry Drive, Beckley, from 6 to 8 p.m. A  committal service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 1, 2013 at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.

Family and friends are invited to meet at Cranberry Baptist Church at 10:30 a.m. Friday to proceed to the mausoleum.

He is survived by his daughters, Hannah Elizabeth Pauley and Emily Ruth Pauley, both of Kannapolis, the mother of their children, Jennifer Pauley of Kannapolis; three brothers, George Elden “Sonny” Pauley Jr. (Florence) of MacArthur, W.Va., James Pauley (Nancy) of Mooresville, N.C., Roger E. Pauley (Marcia) of Mt. Hope, W.Va., a sister, Janet Toney (Gary) of Oak Hill, W.Va., three nephews and two nieces.

Thelma Mae Pozzie Vance

OAK HILL — Thelma Mae Pozzie Vance, 87, of Oak Hill, passed away Saturday, January 26, 2013, at CMC Memorial.

Thelma was born June 30, 1925, at Longacre W.Va.

She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Oak Hill Apostolic Holiness Church for 40 years.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five of six siblings, and her husband William Vance.

Those left to cherish her memory include all her children, Mary Jane Wood of Belle, W.Va., Paul Pozzie and his wife Suzanne of Charleston, W.Va., David Lee Pozzie and his wife Reyna of Costa, W.Va., Anna K. Pozzie of Culloden, W.Va., Stephen L. Pozzie and his wife Carolyn of Oak Hill, Melissa Hubert and her husband Chris of Lake Station, Ind., and Michael Prather; sister Mary L. Sparkman of Crown Hill, W.Va.; 16 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and one on the way; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Her remains rest at High Lawn Funeral Home Chapel, 1435 E. Main Street, Oak Hill, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and where the funeral will be held 1 p.m. Friday, with Pastor Carlos Lewis and Rev. Phillip Fuller officiating. Entombment will follow in High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill.

Sandra Miller Wyatt

HOPE MILLS, N.C. — Sandra Miller Wyatt, age 59, of Hope Mills, passed away peacefully at 1 p.m. Saturday, January 26, 2013, at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, of complications resulting from a recent heart attack and pneumonia.

Sandy was born June 8, 1953 in Ronceverte, W.Va., to the late Fred and Frances Miller.

Sandy was a graduate of Beckley High School in Beckley, and earned a Bachelors Degree from West Virginia University. She later earned a Masters Degree from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. She devoted her life to the education of students in West Virginia, Delaware, and North Carolina. In North Carolina, she taught at Whiteville High School, Hoke County High School, and South View High School before retiring.

She is survived by her two sons, Daniel A. Wyatt and Joshua M. Wyatt and their families. Sandy will always be remembered as a cherished mother, a loving grandmother, a dear friend to many, and a hardworking educator.

Services will include a visitation at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 2, 2013, at Pinecrest Funeral Funeral and Cremation Services in Hope Mills, followed immediately by a service at 3 p.m.
