BIRCH RIVER — Randall “Bones” Bennett, 52, of Birch River died Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, in the Waters Funeral Chapel at Summersville with Pastor Danny Richardson officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the family cemetery at Dille. Friends may call at the funeral chapel from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.

Bernard Lee Bishop
CONWAY, S.C. — Bernard Lee Bishop, age 84, passed away Friday, January 11, 2013, at his residence.
Mr. Bishop was born in National, W.Va., a son of the late Harold J. and Gladys Irene Bray Bishop.
He was an avid golfer and a member of Grand Strand Baptist Church. Prior to retirement he was employed by Slab Fork Coal Co. in Slab Fork, West Virginia.
Surviving are his wife Violet Bishop of Conway; two sons: Ray Bishop of Elizabeth, W.Va., Kenny Bishop of Scarborough, W.Va.; two daughters: Sharon Collins (John) of Warner Robbins, Ga., Linda Keen (Dusty) of Coal City, W.Va.; five grandchildren: Shannon Bishop, Kevin Collins, Mandy Keen, Sandy Trzicak, Rusty Keen; six great-grandchildren: Emily Bishop, Colby Keen, Ireland Collins, Patrick Collins, Ashlyn Keen, Kylee Trzicak; and a very close family friend, Susie Johnson.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, January 16th, at 3 p.m. at the Melton Mortuary Chapel. The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. until the service hour. Burial will follow in the Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Prosperity.

William Cyrus Cooke Jr.
OAK HILL — William Cyrus Cooke, Jr., 69, of Oak Hill, passed away Sunday, January 13, 2013, at the Beckley VAMC.
Born May 3, 1943, at Oak Hill, he was the son of the late William Cyrus Cooke, Sr., and Ella Marie (Burgess) Cooke.
He served in the U.S. Air Force.
He worked as an office business manager for a trucking and shipping company.
In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by a sister, Frances Jennings.
Those left to cherish his memory include his son John “Billy” Cooke of Richmond, VA; two brothers Charles Cooke of Oak Hill and Russell Cooke of Clarksburg; two sisters Fonda Thomas and her husband Tom of Richmond, VA, and Adrian Goff and her companion Dick of Fayetteville.
His remains rest at High Lawn Funeral Home Chapel, 1435 E. Main Street, Oak Hill, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and where the funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday with Rev. David Edwards officiating. Interment will follow in High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill.

Howard William Fields
ALDERSON — Howard William Fields, age 91, of Alderson, W.Va., departed from this world for his heavenly home on Thursday, January 10, 2013, at The Brier Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Ronceverte, W.Va., following a long illness.
Born June 17, 1921, in Alderson, W.Va., he was the son of the late William Edgar and Lillie Lee Taylor Fields. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 61 years, Bethel Leah Kessinger Fields; two brothers, Lawrence Edgar Fields and Lonnie Mason Fields; and three sisters, Mamie Lee Fields, Mabel Ann Smith, and Ruth Fields Altare.
Mr. Fields spent his life in Alderson, graduating from Alderson High School in 1941 where he loved playing football under the leadership of Coach Abe McLaughlin. In later years, he owned and operated the Fields Stone Quarry on Muddy Creek Mountain, Alderson, W.Va., for 40 years. He was a member of the Johnson Memorial United Methodist Church in Alderson, Alderson Masonic Lodge No. 70 AF & AM, and was a former member of the Alderson Lions Club and the Odd Fellows. Mr. Fields and his late wife, Beth, were avid square dancers.
Mr. Fields’ memory will be kept alive by a stepson, Barry E. Worrell and his wife, Linda, of Chandler, Ariz.; two sisters, Dolly Lee Graziani of Milton, Fla., and Rachel Virginia Rookstool of Navarre, Fla.; three grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and many friends.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, January 16, 2013, at 2 p.m. at the Lobban Funeral Home Chapel, Alderson, W.Va., with Pastor Nancy Bulla officiating. ORIENT, Ohio — Doris G. (Stewart) Hall, age 76, of Orient, Ohio, went to be with her heavenly Father on January 13, 2013.
She was united in marriage to Robert G. Hall on December 8, 1960.
Doris was born on January 25, 1936, in Rockview, WV, daughter of the late C. Oley and Irene Stewart; also preceded in death by her daughter, Francine Hall, sister, Helen, and brothers, Jimmie and Glen Stewart.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 52 years, Robert G. Harry Thomas Milam passed away Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013.
He was from Beckley, West Virginia; he was the son of the late Craig Milam and Lottie Dyson Milam.
He is preceded in death by his first wife Opal Milam, brothers Buck Milam, Franklin James Milam, children Buddy Dwayne Milam, Thomas Wesley Milam and Bobbie Jean Hale.
Surviving are wife, Phyllis Irene Milam; daughters, Mary E Matheny, Kathy E Frame, Penny A Young, all of Beckley; grandchildren Neal Hale, Finley Hale, Angie Wood, all of Florida; Jimmy E Stone of Clover, S.C., Lawrence Richards II of Beckley, Amber Rainey of Rock Hill, S.C., Andrew Richards of Beckley, Melanie McVey and Manda McVey of Beckley, Thomas Wesley Milam II, Michael Milam, Opal Milam and Dwayne Milam; several great-grandchildren. Also stepchildren Lisa Lambert, Sandra Williams-Shrewsbury, Larry Lambert, Les Lambert and stepgrandchildren.
Mr. Milam was a police officer in Raleigh County for several years and a retired coal miner. He enjoyed walking and gardening.
Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013, at 1 p.m. at True Word Baptist Church with Rev. David Joyce officiating. Interment will follow at True Word Baptist Church Cemetery.

HICO — James Tommy Miller, 88, of Hico, passed away Sunday, January 13, 2013, following a long illness.
Tommy was born June 11, 1924, in Powellton, WV. He was a son of the late Isaac Clarence Miller and Lena Garnet Walker Miller.
Tommy was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII, a member of Ansted VFW, Gideons and the Masonic Lodge of Ansted, he was a retired insurance agent for Nationwide Insurance Company and a member of Ansted Baptist Church of Ansted.
He is survived by his wife Janet; two daughters, Vicki Eades and Jack of Mt. Nebo, Janice Fleming and Denver of Kimberly; three sons, James Ray Miller and Kathi of Ansted, Daniel Lane Miller and Tena of Kingsland, Ga., Ronald DePugh of Kimberly; two sisters, Helen Winebrenner of Gauley Bridge, Emogene Pierson of Taylors, NC; three brothers, C. Sam Miller of Oak Hill, Don Miller and Judy of Ansted, Kenneth Miller of Weaversville, NC; 16 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 11 Wednesday, at Ansted Baptist Church in Ansted with Pastor Jack Eades, James Miller and Pastor Doug Eades officiating. Entombment will follow at the Chapel of Rest Mausoleum in Victor.

Eileen Rakes Smith
Eileen Rakes Smith, beloved mother, grandmother, and aunt, age 92, of Daniels, WV, passed away Sunday, January 13, 2013.
Eileen was born November 30, 1920, at Daniels, WV, where she continued to reside for the rest of her life. She graduated from Shady Spring High School in 1940 and lived her life strong in her Christian faith.
On the 10th of February 1940 she married the love of her life, Paul Andrew Smith. They were married 56 years until his death in 1997. She was co-owner of Paul Smith Plumbing & Heating, Inc., where she worked until her retirement.
She loved to sew and making quilts was her true love. Creating a new design or trying new patterns for her quilts brought her great happiness, especially a star quilt. She was an avid gardener where she grew a variety of fruits and vegetables and also canned the produce she raised. She was a mean puzzle player and never hesitated to jump in and help solve the annual family Christmas puzzle. Her specialty was figuring out the edges that formed the border of the puzzle. Her famous dinner rolls, stuffing and legendary fudge were enjoyed by many and will remain a great memory to anyone who had the opportunity to taste them.
Preceding her in death are her parents Daniel and Inez Worley Rakes; her brother, Raymond Rakes; sisters, Geraldine Bower and Anna Lee Meade; husband, Paul A. Smith; and granddaughter, Paula Denese Smith.
Left to cherish her memories are her son, Paul D. Smith and wife, Nettie; daughter, Linda Sue Hunt and husband Steve (OH); granddaughter, Melanie Vanderpool and husband Leddy (TN); grandson, Steven A. Hunt (OH); great-grandchildren, Andrea Hunt (OH), Ashlyn Umbenhour (OH), Khayen Vanderpool and wife Bridget (WY), Kamela Johnson and husband Brett (DS) and Kellen Vanderpool (SD); great-great-grandchildren, Joslyn Johnson (SD) and Burke Vanderpool (WY). Special thanks to her nephew, Carson Meade, who helped with her care.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, January 16, 2013, in the Calfee Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jack Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in the Worley Cemetery at Daniels.
