SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. — Eugene Bolen, age 62, of Sevierville, passed away Wednesday, January 2, 2013.

Carl Delbert Canterbury

OAK HILL — Carl Delbert Canterbury, 84, of Oak Hill, passed away Tuesday, January 1, 2013, at the V.A. in Murphysboro, Tenn.

Delbert was one of twelve children. He was born January 12, 1928, at Eagle, W.Va., the son of the late Carl E. Canterbury and Ethel Lee (Spencer) Canterbury.

Delbert was a retired crane operator.

He was a member of the Mountain View Church of God.

Besides his parents and several brothers and sisters, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Canterbury, in February 2011.

Survivors include a son Larry D. Canterbury and a daughter Kim Webb and her husband Matthew; five grandchildren, and one great grandchildren.  

His remains rest at the Mountain View Church of God at Hilltop where the funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, with Rev. Rudell Bloomfield officiating and where the family will receive friends from 12 to 2 p.m. Entombment will follow in High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill.

HOPEWELL, Va. — Juanita Carothers, 63, formerly of Beckley, passed away Wednesday, December 26, 2012.

A Memorial Service will be 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 5, 2013, at Evans Memorial Chapel. The Rev. Herman Cook will be officiating. Interment will follow in Cook Cemetery, Jesse. Friends may call from noon until time of service Saturday, at the funeral home.

Victoria Cook

Victoria Cook, 97, of Daniels, died Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013, in Daniels, W.Va.

Mrs. Cook was a supportive housewife and loving mother and lifetime resident of Wyoming County, W.Va.

Victoria was born June 6th, 1915, at Turkey Creek, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Burl Cook of Turkey Creek.

She was preceded in death by her husband Golden Cook, daughter Dixie Shields, and granddaughter Janet Decker.

Survivors include three sons, Freeland Cook of Burlington, W.Va., Johnnie Cook Jr. of Dayton, Ohio, Ronnie Cook of Norfolk, Va., one daughter, Loretta Raines, of Knoxville, Tenn.; 10 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, 10 great great grandchildren, and three great-great-great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Friday, January 4, 2013, at Calfee Funeral Home. Interment will be at Cook Cemetery, Rockview, W.Va.

Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the service.

CHARLTON HEIGHTS —  Eula Fleming, age 91, of Charlton Heights, passed away Wednesday, January 2, 2013, at CAMC Memorial Hospital.

She was born September 29, 1921, in Bowling Green, Ky., daughter of the late Ottie and Hattie White. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Butler and son Danny Ray.  

Eula is survived by two daughters, Sandra Brown, (John), of Beckley and Shirley Emerson, (Don), of China; two sons, Doug Fleming of Charleston and David Fleming, (Tammy) of Charleston; two brothers, J.C. White, (Evona), and Jocie White, (Shirley). both of Alvaton, Ky.; sister in law, Louise White of Bowling Green, Ky.; 11 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.  

A tribute to Eula’s life will be held Saturday, January 5, 2013, at 1 p.m. at Harding Funerals & Cremations, with Pastor Don Emerson officiating.  Interment will follow in Montgomery Memorial park, London, W.Va.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Edna ‘Tiny’ McKinney

BARKERS RIDGE — Edna Marie “Tiny” McKinney, 79, of Barkers Ridge, passed away on Wednesday, January 2, 2013, at her residence, following a short illness.

Born August 1, 1933, at Barkers Ridge, she was the daughter of the late Walter Lee and Sylvia Lester Meadows.

Tiny was a homemaker and a lifelong resident of Barkers Ridge.

In addition to her parents she is also preceded in death by two brothers, Jimmy and Paul Meadows.

Those left to cherish her memory include a son, Michael McKinney and his wife, Jackie of Barkers Ridge; one grandson, Kyle McKinney and one granddaughter, Harley McKinney, both of Barkers Ridge; two brothers, Kenneth Meadows and his wife, Debbie of Amigo and Dennis Meadows and his wife, Denise of Matheny; three nieces, Holly Meadows, Heather Clay, and Ginger Meadows; one nephew, Tim Meadows; and three great nieces, Ashland Clay, Kaelyn Meadows, and Abigail Meadows.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, January 5, 2013, at Tankersley Funeral Home Chapel,  with Pastor Charles A. McKinney Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the Lewis Graham Cemetery, Basin.

Kathleen Berry Miller

MEADOW CREEK — Kathleen Berry Miller, 80, of Meadow Creek, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, January 1, 2013, at Greenbrier Valley Medical Center, following a sudden illness.

Born February 7, 1932, at Lockbridge, she was the daughter of the late David Ray and Icy Gunter Berry.

A lifelong resident of Summers County she was a homemaker and of the Protestant faith. Mrs. Miller was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who enjoyed quilting, sewing, cooking and taking care of her family.

Preceded in death by one granddaughter, Amy Alison Miller; one grandson, Daniel Dee Miller and three brothers, Nathan, David Buren and Leland Ray Berry.

Survived by her husband, Herbert Franklin Miller Sr. of Meadow Creek; five children, Herbert Franklin Miller Jr. and wife Dena of Forest Hill, Ronald Miller of North Carolina, Beverly Bowles and husband Kermit of Lockbridge, Timothy Miller and wife Vicki of Princeton and Clifton Miller and wife Janet of Jumping Branch; 10 grandchildren, six great grandchildren; three step grandchildren; seven step great grandchildren; one brother, Dempsey Berry and wife Cloeta of Indiana, and one sister, Evelyn Crook and husband Herbert of Hilldale.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, January 5, 2013, at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel, with Pastor Randy Mann officiating. Burial will follow in the Restwood Memorial Gardens near Hinton.

Jerry Allen Neal

OAK HILL — Jerry Allen Neal, 69, of Oak Hill, passed away Tuesday, January 1, 2013, at Plateau Medical Center.

Born July 31, 1943, at North Matewan, the son of Homer Neal and Vada (Huffman) Neal. Jerry served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Wasp. He attended Shepherds Worship Center. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed woodworking and he was a disabled coal miner.

He was preceded in death by three brothers James, Phillip and Robert and one sister Sue Crum.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of nearly 50 years Maurnetia Sue (Reid) Neal; four children Erin Rollyson and her husband Damon of Gauley Bridge, Eric L. Neal and his wife Kathy of Oak Hill, Chery L. Farrell and her husband Frank of Oak Hill, and Lisa Hamilton and her companion Adam of Oak Hill; one sister Yvonne Mills of Ohio, 10 grandchildren John Adam Mullins of Oak Hill, Elizabeth Canaday and her husband Joey of Oak Hill, Eric “Landon” Neal II of Oak Hill, Heather (Bowyer) Kincaid of Oak Hill, Andrea Lewis of Fayetteville, Weston Toney of Oak Hill, Brittany Farrell of Oak Hill, Samantha Farrell of Oak Hill, Kristina Neal of Beckley, and Tara Hamilton of Oak Hill; 12 great grandchildren and two great grandchildren on the way.

His remains rest at High Lawn Funeral Home Chapel, 1435 E. Main Street, Oak Hill, where the funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013, with Pastor Rick Martin officiating and where the family will receive friends from noon until time of service. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, with military rites conducted by Oak Hill V.F.W. Post 3110.

Pallbearers will be John Mullins, Weston Toney, Eric Landon Neal II, Mark Pysell, Kelly Cosby, and John Holstein.

Jerry Dale Stover

RAGLEY, La. — Jerry Dale Stover, age 53, of Ragley, formerly of Surveyor, WV, passed away at Ragley, Louisiana, on December 24, 2012.

Born on June 25, 1959, in Beckley, he was the son of the late Eric Dale Stover and Marilyn Joan Aaronsburg Stover.

He was the owner and operator of his own tree service business, and had made his home in Ragley for the past two years, living most of his life since the 1970s in Louisiana. Jerry loved being with his family, singing Karaoke, and being outdoors. He was a U.S. Navy veteran.

A nephew, George Wayne Taylor II, preceded him in death.

Those survivors left to cherish his memory include his son, Jason Pennington of Mabscott, WV.

A brother, Richard Stover and his wife Regina of Princewick. Three sisters, Joyce Stover of Beckley, JoAnn Damion of Surveyor, and Danette “Cookie” Runion and her husband Timothy of Mossy, WV.

Several nieces and nephews also survive. A grandson, David of Mullens, WV.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Ewing Creek Church at Clear Creek, WV, with Rev. Johnny Taylor and Rev. Loretta Taylor officiating at 3 p.m. on Saturday, January 5, 2013. Burial will follow at the Workman’s Creek Cemetery at Workman’s Creek. Friends may call at the church from 1 p.m. until time of the service on Saturday. Family members will serve as pallbearers.

Diana Lynn Miser Stroupe, 50, of Daniels, passed away Thursday, January 3, 2013, at Bowers Hospice House following a long illness.

Born February 1, 1962, in Beckley, she was the daughter of Ida Jean Pate Moneypenny of Jane Lew, W.Va., and the late Jerry Miser.

Diana was a homemaker and a member of Outreach Church in Beaver

In addition to her mother she is survived by a daughter, Jennifer Lee Loveday of Stanaford; sisters, Patricia Jean Foley and husband David of Cool Ridge and Norma Blevins and husband Gregg of Beckley; step-father, Howard Lane Moneypenny of Jane Lew and five  nieces and nephews.

Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, January 6, 2013, in the Calfee Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Charlie Lilly officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park.

Friends may visit with the family from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Marsha S. Hannah Thompson

PINEVILLE — Marsha S. Hannah Thompson, 51, passed away suddenly, Tuesday, January 1, 2013, at her home.

Born October 27, 1961 in Bluefield, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Statt and Jean Fertig Hannah.

Marsha was a 1979 graduate of Oceana High School. She attained an Associate’s Degree in Accounting from Concord College. She was a former employee of Buddy’s Discount and had been employed for the last twelve years with Calfee Funeral Service in Pineville. She was also a long time employee of C.M.J.R. Delivery Service.

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Chelsea Thompson and her companion, Billy Roberts of Pineville; Wade Huffman of Surveyor, her companion of five years, who loved her dearly; and her cat, Luna.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Saturday, January 5, 2013, at Calfee Funeral Service Chapel, with the Rev. Doc Adkins officiating. Interment will follow at Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny.

Friends may gather with the family 11 a.m. until time of service Saturday, at the funeral home.

Mary Anne Walker

RAINELLE — Mary Anne Walker, 80, of Rainelle, formerly of Webster Springs, passed away Thursday, January 3, 2013, in the Greenbrier Valley Medical Center at Fairlea, following a short illness.

Born May 24, 1932, at Webster Springs, she was the daughter of the late Arnold C. and Mary Leontine Watson Frazee.

Mary retired from Cool Motors after 20 years of service; worked at Mongahelia Power for 2 years; owner of Walker Furniture in Rainelle; and was a member of the United Methodist Church at Webster Springs. She was very active in the V.F.W. Auxillary, Post 4484 in Rainelle. Mary served as president for both Auxillary Post 3738 and Post 4484 and president of District 10. She recycled greeting cards for the VA hospitals and nursing homes. Mary was a member of the Rainelle Bridge Club; the Rainelle Library Board, Friends of the Rainelle Library; and a former member of the Rainelle C.E.O.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her first husband Dwight A. Allman in 1979 and her second husband Eugene W. Walker in 2000.

Survivors include her son Lyndon D. Allman and wife Carolyn of Weirton; her daughter Sharon Allman Stewart of Blountville, Tenn.; her brother Larry Frazee of Peoria, Ariz.; four  grandchildren, Joseph Stewart and wife Ashley, Johnny Stewart, Carla Vandevender and Sabrina Riter and husband Lee; three great-grandchildren Mason and Cole Riter and Kalyn Vandevender and Charlie Nester, a special and loving friend and caregiver.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, January 5, 2013, at Smathers Funeral Chapel, with Pastor Fred Fryar and Rev. Keith Shumaker officiating. Burial will follow in the Rock Cave Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Charlie Nester, Larry Smith, Joseph Stewart, Johnny Stewart, Lee Riter and Dale Allman.

Lewis Howard Wood Jr.

Surrounded by his loving family, Lewis Howard Wood Jr., age 71, of Prosperity, passed away Wednesday, January 2, 2013, at his home.

Born August 28, 1941, he was the son of the late Howard Lewis Wood Sr. and Mary Kay Austin Wood.

Lewis was a retired carpenter. He enjoyed gun trading, hunting, NASCAR and football. He always looked forward to meeting up with his best buddy, Danny Legg to attend gun trading shows. He also enjoyed good times with many other good buddies.  

He was preceded in death by an infant son Ricky Wayne Wood.

Those left to cherish his memory include his devoted and loving wife of 51 years Geraldine Wood of the home, two children Tammy Meadows and husband Rick of North Carolina, Randy Wood and wife Angela of Prosperity; two grandchildren Richard Meadows and wife Amber and Presleigh Wood, two great grandchildren Aubrie and Kyler Meadows; sisters Ruth Ann Kiser, Retha Burkehammer and husband Dallas, Betty Moore and special companion Barry, Ellen Smithers, Linda Ward, Kathy Weaver and husband David; brothers Larry Wood and wife Susie and Danny Wood; also survived by his beloved pets Tiny and Gracie.

A funeral service to celebrate the life of Lewis Wood will be conducted on 3 p.m.  Saturday, January 5, 2013, at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel with Pastor Samuel Vance officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens in Prosperity.
