Marie Teel Short
Our beloved Mother, Opal Marie Teel Short, was reunited with her husband, Bob, on Monday, April 23, 2012. Her life was long and fulfilling as she was fully devoted to her family and home.
She was born August 18, 1918 at Concho, W. Va., the sixth of nine children of the late Homer F. and Sadie E. Cobb Teel.
Her early years of living and growing in the coal camp of Dunedin in Fayette County were full of happy, wonderful memories that she shared later with her family. The school house was the hub of the community and she shined as an excellent student and loved the school plays – participating and taking the lead.
Her home of 72 years at 133 Westwood Drive was a haven for all her children, family and friends. It was truly a place that could be called HOME because of her loving care throughout. Marie loved to bake, especially for the Holidays and the home was always so festive at this time. The house was spotless – you could “eat off the floors." Ask anyone – it was true. And most importantly, she loved the Lord God. Prayer and scripture reading were part of her daily life. She was an active member of the Carriage Drive church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Robert E. Short in 1999, and most recently two sisters – Juanita King in 2008 and Margaret Thomson in 2011, and a Grandson Christopher Lee Short in 2009.
Survivors include three daughters, Kay Chastain of Beckley, Bobbie Cooke and her husband Tom of Panama City, Fla. and Judy Cimala and her husband Derek of Somerset, Ky.; a son Dr. Robert T. Short and his wife Mary Lou of Oak Hill; 14 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
