Barbara Jean Morris

OAK HILL — Barbara Jean Morris, 73, of Oak Hill passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones at the Bowers Hospice House in the early morning hours of Friday, June 28, 2013.

Born January 27, 1940, at Handley, WV, she was the daughter of the late Robert William Higginbotham and Delma Cecil (Mink) Higginbotham.

Barbara Jean was a nursing aide at the Kate Boone Personal Care Home for thirty-plus years. She had attended the Loop Creek Baptist Church in Page.

Barbara Jean was a tireless worker and the stalwart of a loving family. She was never one to say a bad word about anyone, and gave entirely of herself to those she loved. She was the ultimate caregiver but never once wanted anyone to have to care for her. She was truly giving in every sense of the word and also stubborn to the core. She never once complained about her tough circumstances growing up and when she was diagnosed with cancer, she fought that battle with the same grit and determination she put into everything.

Barbara loved people and put everyone but herself first. A woman of a few words, she led by example and her family adored and cherished every moment with her. They say some people break the mold; anyone who met Barbara Jean would tell you that she created one of her own. She was truly one of a kind and will be missed by all of those lucky enough to have known her.

In addition to her parents, Barbara Jean was preceded in death by her husband Robert Lee Morris in September 1989, and two sisters Irene Higginbotham and Ellen Simms.

Left to treasure her memory include her son Robert Lee Morris of Oak Hill; two daughters Bernadine Sizemore and her husband Michael of Oak Hill, and Teresa Pearson and her husband Tony of Oak Hill; one sister Elizabeth Beals of Oak Hill; two brothers Cecil Higginbotham and his wife Doris of Luray, VA, and Robert Higginbotham and his wife Patsy of Oak Hill; three grandchildren Natasha Shay Green, Britany Nicole Sizemore, and Ryan Douglas Green; one great-grandson Isaac Kia Loughrey; and two stepgrandchildren.

Her remains rest at High Lawn Funeral Home where the visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today and where the funeral will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday with Pastor Ken Clark officiating. Burial will follow in High Lawn Memorial Park.

The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses, especially Dr. Khanna and the staff at the Raleigh Regional Cancer Center, the doctors and staff at Ruby Memorial Hospital, and the staff at the Bowers Hospice House.
