Stefanie Denise ‘Big Red’ Amick

NETTIE — Stefanie Denise “Big Red” Amick, 46, of Nettie, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2013, at Ruby Memorial Hospital, following a short illness.

Born Feb. 28, 1967, in Summersville, she was the daughter of the late Eria Paulett Stoneburner and her adoptive father, Robert Adams of McRoss. In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by a sister, Joanna Bennett; two uncles, Glen and Griffin Stoneburner and grandparents, Paul and Rebecca Stoneburner.

Survivors include her spouse, Mark Dewayne Amick of Nettie; daughter, Mackenzie Breanna Hardwick of Nettie; her three-year-old K9 son, Buckshot Amick; two aunts, Claudett (John) O’Dell of Leivasy and Kim (Bonnie) O’Quinn of Princeton; nephew, Neil Adam Pence and niece, Keely Nicole Bennett.

Memorial services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 4, 2013, at the Peniel United Methodist Church at Hominy Falls, W.Va., with Pastor Harold Dusky officiating.

Cindy Sue Nester Bailey

Cindy was born on December 10th, 1964 in Huntington, to Kenneth and Brenda Nester and departed this life into the Kingdom of Heaven on September 10th 2013 following a short illness with her loving family by her side.

Cindy was preceded in death by her father Kenneth Nester, maternal grandparents (Rev) Louie and Evelyn Stegel, and paternal grandparents Edwin and Estelle Nester.

Cindy graduated from WV Career College in 1984 and was a former employee of the Marriot in Charleston. Cindy was gifted with an extremely energetic personality that lifted up the spirits of all those around her.

In 1991, Cindy’s life was tragically changed due to complications received in an automobile accident but thanks to the dedication and loyalty of a mother and sister love, and the blessing of the Lord, was able to live another 22 wonderful years.

During those 22 years, Cindy was able to enjoy many vacations to include trips to Disney World in Florida, Myrtle Beach S.C., Pigeon Forge and Dollywood Tenn., and many camping and fishing trips.

In addition to her mother, Cindy is also survived by her daughter Jennifer; brother, Edward Nester (Janet), sister, Terra Shank, and brother, John (Michelle), all of Scott Depot. She is also survived by the Love of her life former fiancé Brian Brown. Also surviving are her nephews Tony, Jonathan, Kenny, Brandon, and Fred; nieces Brenda, Danielle, Valerie, and Heather; several great nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends as well as her former husband and Jennifer’s father, Keith Bailey.

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, September 14, 2013 at Chapman Funeral Home, 3941 Teays Valley Road, Hurricane with Marvin Arbaugh officiating. Burial will follow at Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Jerry Robert Black

RAINELLE — Jerry Robert Black, 76, of Rainelle, passed away Wednesday, September 10, 2013, in the Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley following a short illness.

Born December 10, 1936 in Rainelle, he was the son of the late Otis and Tacy Wrasford Black.

Jerry retired from the U.S. Air Force after 20 years of service. He was a hard working man who raised and loved his girls.

Survivors include four daughters Tacy Patterson of Lewisburg, Teresa Black of Rainelle, Cheryl Ball and husband Roger of Rainelle and Desiree McCafferty-Black of Oak Hill; seven grandchildren Johnny Moreno of Valdosta, Ga., Brandon Black of Lewisburg, Barbara Hauss of Kannapolis, N.C., Caleb Stanley of Rainelle, Cendlelyn Stanley of Rainelle, Tara Patterson and Terry Patterson, both of Lewisburg; and one sister Sara Carr of Parsons and eight great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Friday, September 13, in the Apostolic Holiness Church on 4th Street, Rainelle, with Pastor Tom Tramel.

The family will receive friends from 12 noon to 1 p.m. at the church.

JOPPA, Md. — John R. Herndon, 84, of Joppa, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2013.

William F. Hurley

AXLE, Texas — William F. Hurley, 74, of Axle, Texas, formerly of Pineville, passed away Thursday, September 5, 2013 following a long illness.

Born November 30, 1938 at Logan, he was the son of the late Edward and Agnes Rose Hurley.

William attended the Rock Castle Baptist Church. He enjoyed watching sports, fishing and being with his family.

Survivors include three brothers, Burl Edward Hurley and his wife, Darla of Axle, Texas, Thomas Lee Hurley and his wife, Carol of Pineville and James Hurley and his wife, Deborah of Pineville; two sisters, Barbara Lambert of Beckley and Patsy Jean Hargis of Mt. Airy, N.C.

A celebration of William’s life will be held at 7 p.m., Thursday, September 12, 2013 in the Calfee Funeral Service Chapel with Pastor Randy Bowles officiating.

Dale Ray Preast

RAINELLE — Dale Ray Preast, 56, of Rainelle, passed away, Tuesday, September 10, 2013, following a long illness.

He was born October 17, 1956 at Gauley Bridge, W.Va., he was the son of Dencil Ray Preast and Audrey Mae Pullen.

Dale was a devoted, husband, father, grandfather, son and brother to his loving family, he loved his church and loved being the Pastor to his congregation at Virginia O’Dell Freewill Baptist Church. He loved being outdoors and doing everything for everyone, He was a warehouse manager for the coal industry and also a self employed service station owner.

Survivors include his loving wife of 38 years, Peggy Carol Sorrell Preast; a daughter, Heather Lynn Hundley of Hilton Village; a son Dale Ray Preast Jr. and wife Gloria of Salem, Va.; a sister, Debbie McVey and husband Richard of Mt. Hope: five grandchildren, Silas, Paul, Hannah, Cameron and Kenna.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Saturday, September 14, 2013, at Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home Chapel in Ansted. Interment will follow at Restlawn Memory Gardens, Victor.

RICHWOOD — Mary Matilda Stanley, 81, of Richwood, passed away Monday, September 9, 2013.

Lonnie Lee ‘Bill’ Watkins

CHARLESTON — Lonnie Lee “Bill” Watkins, 82, of Charleston, W.Va., formerly of Dothan and Sugar Grove, W.Va., went home to be with the Lord on Monday, September 9, 2013 at Beckley VAMC.

Born July 3, 1931 he was the son of the late Ambrose and Bernice Toney Watkins.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Betty J. Flanagan Watkins; three brothers, Charles Watkins, Robert Watkins, and Joseph Watkins; one sister, Charlene Watkins.   

Survivors include two daughters, Myra “Susan” Watkins of Charleston, W.Va. and Michelle Griffith and husband Jeff of Cool Ridge, W.Va.; two sons, James Watkins and wife Sandra of Shepherdstown, W.Va. and Michael Watkins and wife Linda of Kearneysville, W.Va.; one sister Ida Mae Williams of Scarbro, W.Va.; five grandchildren, Emily Lord Watkins-Kern of Cambridge, England, Noah Watkins of Frederick, Md., Trista Watkins of Maysville, W.Va., Ashley Watkins of Charleston, W.Va., and Nicole Griffith of Cool Ridge; five great-grandchildren, Elyssa Kimple Watkins, Peyton Longerbeam, Elyah Leslie, William Cook, and Lonnie Cook.

Mr. Watkins loved his family; he also enjoyed traveling, auto mechanics, and NASCAR and especially enjoyed a good laugh. Mr. Watkins was a US Army Master Sargent Retired, with 24 years of service to his country. Following his Military retirement Mr. Watkins worked the next 20 years at the Reagan National Airport. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion in Charles Town, W.Va., and he was of the Baptist faith.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Sunday, September 15, 2013 at Blue Ridge Funeral Home Chapel in Beckley, with Chaplin Mark Iobst, and Chaplin Paul Bricker officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley, where the American Legion Post 32 Honor Guard will have Military graveside rites.

Friends may gather with the family Saturday, September 14, 2013 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Marcus Boone, Robert Estepp, Paul Jarvi, Danny Howell, Nichole Hylton, Erik Reynolds, Matthew Gavin, Don Penn, Shaun Longerbeam, Noah Watkins, and Jason Cook will serve as pallbearers.

William Charles Woods

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Mr. William Charles Woods, 94, of Winston-Salem, formerly of Mt. Hope, died Thursday, September 5, 2013.

Born March 1, 1919, he was the son of the late Nathaniel and Flossie Woods.

He was a retired coal miner and a Army Veteran of World War II.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Naomi Woods, brother, Lewis Woods, and first wife, Alease Woods.

Left to cherish precious memories are his daughter, Roxane (Richard) Littlejohn; granddaughters, Amber Johnson and Brittney LaPrade and great-grandsons, Kerry and Taivon Johnson, all of Winston-Salem, N.C.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Saturday, September 14, 2013 at the Glorious Church of God in Christ, 421 Main St., Mt. Hope, with Bishop John Grant officiating. Entombment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Prosperity.
