Diana Faye Adkins

OAK HILL — On August 16, 2013, Diana Faye Adkins, age 60, of Oak Hill, WV, went to her forever home in Heaven where she was greeted by her mother Faye Margalene Adkins and father Carlos “Boy” Adkins.

Diana was born on May 31, 1953, in Page, WV, where she spent her youth with 4 brothers and 2 sisters.

She was hard working and loving and was both a mother and father to her two daughters. She was a devoted mother, sister, grandmother, and friend.

Diana was an idol to her 4 grandchildren who miss her dearly. She was a beautiful painter, crafter, writer, and floral designer. She served her family and friends as a tutor, counselor, mentor, and the one who had all the right answers. Diana was strong when everyone else fell apart. She placed her family high upon a throne and spent her life serving for them.

Her children are Michelle Jones of Oak Hill, and Kelly Lester and her husband Greg of Beckley. Her grandchildren include Airman Apprentice Brandon Cody Jones, currently from Naval Station in Norfolk, Virginia; Tommy Jones, Alex Sheets, and Kiersten Sheets.

Her brothers and sisters include Delorse Clay of Oak Hill, Carlos Adkins and his wife Laura of Kincaid, Jimmy Adkins of Kincaid, Houston Adkins and his wife Judy of North Carolina, Denise Nunnally of Georgia, and Anthony Adkins of Page. Her sister by heart Vicki Gillespie of Fayetteville.

Also left to cherish her memory are 12 nephews and 7 nieces. She will be sadly missed by all of her family and friends.

A memorial service will be held to Celebrate the Life of Diana Adkins at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley on Thursday, August 22, 2013, at 4 p.m. with Rev. Houston Adkins officiating. Friends may visit with the family 30 minutes before the memorial service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations of sympathy may be sent to the Bowers Hospice House, 454 Cranberry Drive, Beckley, WV, in memory of Diana.

Sherman G. Calvert

FAYETTEVILLE — Sherman Glen Calvert, 69, of Fayetteville, passed away Thursday, August 15, 2013, at CAMC Memorial Division, Charleston.

Born on September 19, 1943, at Fayetteville, he was the son of the late Harry and Rosie Bumgardner Calvert.

Sherman was a member of Harvey Chapel Methodist Church. He was a retired custodian at Oak Hill Baptist Church with over 25 years of service.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his two brothers, Victor Calvert and Alfred Calvert.

Left to cherish his memory include his wife, Phyllis Calvert of Fayetteville; two daughters: Tammy (Carl) Stone of Pocahontas County, and Annette (Glenn) Evans of Hilltop; one son: Harry (Rachel) Calvert of Summerlee; five grandchildren: Brandon Stone, Lindsey Stone, Travis Evans, Vencent Evans, and Josie Evans; great-granddaughter, Myleigh Evans; five sisters, Vonna Kincaid of Vienna, VA, Isabelle Stone of Columbus, OH, Martha Lee Sydnor of Fayetteville, WV, Shelby Harler of Winchester, VA, and Shirley Gryzb of Cleveland, OH; and a host of other family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, August 20, 2013, at Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home, Fayetteville, with Rev. Ronnie Persinger and Rev. Bobby Pauley officiating. Burial will follow at Huse Memorial Park, Fayetteville.

The family will receive friends from noon until 1 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Virginia Daniels

“To be absent in the body is to be present with the Lord.” 2 Corinthians 5:8

Virginia Daniels, 50, of Fairdale left our world to enter into Heaven on August 16, while at home. She was preceded in death by her father Earl Daniels and her brother-in-law, Daryl Travis. Virginia resided at Fairdale with her mother, Matilda Daniels.

Virginia was born January 27, 1963, at Man, WV. She was a graduate of FMRS School for Special Needs Children in 1985. Virginia enjoyed spending time in her workshop busy with her office files. She loved being a mother to her baby dolls, especially Abigail. Her hobbies were watching soap operas and collecting country music CDs. Virginia was a special sister and aunt to everyone. She was a wonderful daughter to her mother.

Those left to cherish Virginia’s memory are her 4 brothers and 7 sisters: Earl (Ruth) Eastridge of Killen, AL, Priscilla (Van) Gibson of Brookwood, AL, Shirlene (James) Sizemore of Berry, AL, Donna Worley of Glen Daniel, WV, Cecil (Angela) Daniels of Bolt, WV, Elaine (Wilbourne) Helton of Brookwood, AL, Elizabeth (Kennith) Ellis of Glen Daniel, WV, Ronald (Desi) Daniels of Fairdale, WV, Sarah Travis of Millport, AL, Chuck Daniels of Brookwood, AL, and Debra (James) Adkins of Beckley, WV. Virginia also had 12 nieces, 12 nephews, 9 great-nieces and 18 great-nephews.

Visitation will be Sunday, August 18, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Breckenridge Missionary Baptist Church, Bolt, WV. A celebration of Virginia’s life will be Monday, August 19, at 1 p.m. with Pastor Dewey Lowe officiating. Burial will follow in the Daniels Family Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Virginia’s brothers.

Jon Clifton Endelmann

Jon Clifton Endelmann, age 74, of Cool Ridge, WV, passed away at the Princeton Community Hospital on Wednesday, August 14, 2013.

Born on June 19, 1938, in Algonac, Michigan, he was the son of the late Leland Endelmann and Marian Powers Endelmann.

Mr. Endelmann was a retired construction worker in Cleveland, Ohio, retiring from the International Laborers Union of North America, Local Number 310. Prior to his involvement in the Labor Union, he sailed on the Great Lakes for the Interlake Steam Ship Company. Mr. Endelmann was a Veteran of the U.S. Army, serving with the 82nd. Airborne Division with over 80 parachute jumps.

Mr. Endelmann was a resident of Cool Ridge for the past 14 years, and enjoyed his family, NASCAR and listening to music.

He was preceded in death by brothers, Leland, Kenneth, and Thomas Endelmann, and by a son Phillip Patrick Harford.

Surviving wife of 40 years Frances Hart Endelmann, whom he loved with all of his heart, two children, Pamela Smith and her husband Gary of Beckley, and Phyllis JoHanna Levan and husband Donald of Sherrill’s Ford, North Carolina, Grandchildren, Chuck Wiseman and his wife Suzanne of Beckley, Britani Crawford and her husband Mike of Beckley, Jamie Smith of Beckley, Kara Lozano and her husband Phillip of Mooresville, NC, and Great-grandchildren  Emma, and Ethan Crawford of Beckley, and Phillip Lozano of Mooresville, NC.

Naomi Ellen Foster

PRINCETON — Naomi Ellen Foster, 91, of 688 Village Green Circle, Princeton, WV, passed away on Friday, August 16, 2013, at Summers County Hospital in Hinton.

Born on August 16, 1922, in Glen White, she was a daughter of the late Oscar Brown and Nannie Ellen Fortner Kelley. She had been a resident of Princeton since 1985 and was of the Methodist faith. She was a homemaker.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Paul Hoster; a daughter, Fredia Looney; and three grandchildren. She was the last surviving member of her family.

Survivors include: 2 sons: Frederick Foster and Dorothy of Danese, WV, David Foster and Johnetta of King, NC; 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, August 20, 2013, at 1 p.m. at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell with Rev. Steve Martin officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton where grandsons and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Friends may call on Tuesday from 12 to 1 p.m. at the funeral home.

Margaret Alpha Sweeney Hutchinson

Margaret Alpha Sweeney Hutchinson, age 96, of Beckley, passed away Friday, August 16, at Bowers Hospice House.

She was born January 4, 1917, at Sun, West Virginia, to the late parents of Roy Lee Sweeney and Mary Ballard Sweeney. She was previously from Skelton before moving to Beckley in 1968.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl J. Hutchinson, two sisters — Juanita Eaton from Dayton, Ohio, and Marie Brown from Sprague, one grandson — Michael Williams. Stepchildren: Earl Jr., Tommy, William, Hal, and Judith Dew.

She is survived by her children: Patrick and Janet Williams of Springfield, Ohio; Nancy and Pat Coutcher of Wagram, North Carolina; Roy and Myrt Hutchinson of Arcanum, Ohio; Earl Wayne and Patricia Hutchinson of Marion, North Carolina; and Dwight of Beckley. She is also survived by a special and blessed friend, Ann Miles of Beaver, Molly, her feline companion, and LuLu, her canine friend.

She is also survived by grandchildren — Cheryl, Tammy, Patrick, Robert, Susan, David, Duane, Laurie, Robin, Hutchie, Lisa; Lauren, and Lindsay, and one sister — Clara Bowden of Prosperity.

Visitation will be at Calfee Funeral Home in Beckley, WV, on Monday, August 19, 2013, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Graveside rites and burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 20, 2013, at Mt. Tabor Cemetery, with Pastor Vondie Cook II officiating.

Because of her love of animals, memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Raleigh County, 325 Grey Flats Road, Beckley, WV.

CALDWELL — Ida “Ruth” Scott, 93, of Caldwell, passed away Friday, Aug. 16, 2013.

Regina Sue Stafford

LILLYDALE — Regina Sue Stafford, 47, of Lillydale, WV, passed away on August 15, 2013, at her home.

She was born March 30, 1966, in Mullens, WV, a daughter of Sylvia Atwell Stafford of Baileysville and the late Robert Rodney “Bob” “Railroad” Stafford, Sr.

In addition to her father she was preceded in death by a brother Randell “Randy” Stafford; a niece Angelina Maria Stafford; and an uncle Verlin Atwell.

Survivors include her longtime companion Lendon Jeffery Cline of Lillydale; a daughter Meranda (Glenn “Shandell”) Adkins of Kopperston; a sister Rebecca (Ted) Mueller of Kopperston; four brothers Robert “Robbie” Stafford, Jr., and companion Shelly McKinney of Mill Creek, Richard “Rick” Stafford and companion Tammy Welch of NC, Russell “Rusty” Stafford of Baileysville, and Joseph Ray “JR” Stafford of Clear Fork; two grandsons Glenn Shandell Adkins, Jr., and Bryan Matthew Adkins both of Kopperston; three nieces Katelyn “Katie” Mueller (Derrick) York of Lillydale, Charity Faye Mueller of Kopperston, and Desiree Danielle Stafford of OH; a great-niece Emma Hope Danielle York of Lillydale; a nephew Ted Robert Kenneth “TJ” Mueller of Kopperston; two aunts Evelyn Spires of Cleveland, OH, and Linda Yerby of Cherokee, AL; an uncle William “Uncle Bill” (Gertie) of Cleveland, OH; two cousins Candy (Mike) Scigliano, and Connie (Bruce) Wade of Cleveland, OH; and a host of other loving family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. on Monday, August 19, 2013, in the Chapel of Stafford Family Funeral Home, Lynco, WV, with Rev. Tommy Knotts officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Stafford Family Cemetery, Baileysville, WV. Friends may gather with the family from 5 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, August 18, 2013, at the funeral home.

Glenn Eugene ‘Red’ Tilley

Glenn Eugene “Red” Tilley, 77, of Crab Orchard, passed away on Wednesday, August 14, 2013, at the Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital.

Born on September 20, 1935, at Keyrock, he was the son of the late Fred Tilley and Nova Roles Tilley.

Mr. Tilley was a retired coal miner, having worked at Consol Roland Mine at Clear Creek, WV, and was a member of the UMWA. He was of the Baptist faith, and had made his home at Crab Orchard since 1970. Mr. Tilley enjoyed fishing, bird watching, and feeding his squirrels. Mr. Tilley was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Pamela Tilley, and by a sister, Peggy Tilley.

Survivors include his wife of nearly 51 years, Connie Powers Tilley. His children, Angela Wilkerson and her husband Jeff of Chesapeake Beach, Md., and Kevin Tilley and his wife Stephanie of Brown Summit, N.C.; grandchildren: Kurtis and Patrick Wilkerson, Savannah and Samantha Tilley, and Jonathan Waddell. Two brothers, Gene Tilley of Crab Orchard, and Bill Tilley and his wife Rose of New Hernando, Florida.  

Funeral services will be conducted at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley on Monday, August 19, 2013, at 1 p.m. with Rev. Tom Anderson officiating. Burial will follow at the Shumate Cemetery at Saulsville.

Friends may visit with the family from 6 to 9 p.m. on Sunday.

In lieu of flowers, donations of sympathy may be made to the Bowers Hospice House, 454 Cranberry Drive, Beckley, WV, in memory of Mr. Tilley.
