RAINELLE — Dorsey Ray Dahmer, 82, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2011.

William Henry Dews

Mr. William Henry Dews, 72, died at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, December 13, 2011, in Plateau Medical Center, Oak Hill following an extended illness.

Born February 5, 1939, he was the son of the late Howard and Mamie Dews. 

Mr. Dews was a coal miner, and a member of Faith Temple of Deliverance.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Alfred Heller.

Left to cherish his memories are his wife, Loretta Allen Dews of Mt. Hope; sons: Larry Dews, Vincent Dews, Henry Dews Jr., and Phillip (Lee Ann) Booker, all of Morgantown, James Booker of Mt. Hope and Todd Allen of Huntington; daughters: Shawna Allen of Beckley and Carolines Dews; brother, Jerome Dews (Seba) of Bluefield, W.Va.; sister Fredia Jeand Anthony and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Services will be 1 p.m. on Monday, December 19, 2011 at Faith Temple of Deliverance, 119 Deegans Street, Beckley, with Bishop Bobby Tunstalle officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Prosperity.

Teddy J. Farley, 77, of Surveyor, W.Va., passed away at the Plateau Medical Center at Oak Hill, on Thursday, December 15, 2011.

Clyde Lee Hatcher Sr., 90, of Beckley, passed away at the Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley on Friday, December 16, 2011.

Patrick Warren Humphrey

Patrick Warren Humphrey, age 72 of Cool Ridge, passed away on Friday,  December 16, 2011 at Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley, following an extended illness.

He was born on March 3, 1939 in Pax, W.Va., a son of the late Sidney Ralph Humphrey and Mayme Gertrude Warren Humphrey.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers: Kenneth Randall, Jimmy Dale, and Paul Edward Humphrey.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 54 years, Mrs. Betty Humphrey, at home; daughter,  Tammy Hogan and husband Dan of Glen Burnie, Md.; son, Michael Humphrey and wife Tammy Ann, also of Glen Burnie; brother, Ralph Humphrey Jr. and wife Jean of Ripley, W.Va.; a sister-in-law, Margaret Humphrey of Oak Hill; along with several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

In keeping with Pat’s wishes, he was cremated and services will be held privately by the family.

Brandon Mitchell Keene, three-year-old son of Jessica Diane Keene of Summersville, died Thursday, December 15, 2011.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, December 20, 2011 in the Waters Funeral Chapel at Summersville with the Rev. Canon Walter J. Mycoff Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the Walker Memorial Park at Summersville.

Grace McCarthy Keller

HIGH SPRINGS, Fla. — Grace McCarthy Keller, 87, of High Springs, formerly of Williamstown, W.Va., passed away Wednesday, December 14, 2011.

Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Monday at High Lawn Funeral Home Chapel.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until time of the service on Monday.

Harvey Edward Rakes

Harvey Edward Rakes, 90, of Sophia, passed away Thursday, December 15, 2011.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, December 20, 2011 at Williams-Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Sophia, with Elder Joe Blevins officiating. Burial will follow in Slab Fork Cemetery.

Friends may gather with the family from 1 p.m. until time of the service Tuesday at the funeral home.

Robert ‘Bob’ Shafer

RONCEVERTE — Robert Lewis “Bob” Shafer, 89, of Ronceverte, entered the splendor of Heaven on Thursday, December 15, 2011 at his home in Ronceverte, following a brief illness.

Born September 19, 1922 at Caldwell, he was a son of the late George Edward and Flora Boone Shafer.

In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by a sister, Louise Holley, and brothers, Ovid, Royd, Earl, Paul, Harold, Billy and Joe Shafer.

Bob was a man of faith and an active member of Zion’s Light Baptist Church. He sang with the Greenbrier Men’s Quartet. Bob was a WWII Navy Veteran. He retired as a service man for VEPCO with over 35 years of service and was a Class A member of the IBEW Local 50.

Bob instilled in his family a love for music and for God. A highlight of his summer was hosting the Shafer family reunion at his homestead near Caldwell. 

 Bob is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years, Susanna “Sue” Morgan Shafer, and four daughters, Rita Brunty (Mike) of Ronceverte, Susie Toothman (Bob) of Ronceverte, Barbara Gray (Billy) of Forest, Va., and Terri McDowell (Eddie) of Ronceverte. His loving grandchildren are: Michael Brunty (Kristin), Jessica Baker (Bert), Aaron Toothman (Rachel), Megan Hefner (Mike), Neil Toothman (Amanda), Leah Toothman, Will Gray, Leslie Gray, Jonathan McDowell, Rebekah McDowell, and Emily McDowell. Bringing him sunshine were his great-grandchildren: Ashley and Elena Brunty; Molli and Jake Baker; Logan, Anna and  Ellie Toothman; Kate, Ryan and Sam Hefner; a sister, Anilee Deim (Jim) of Caldwell, W.Va.; and a brother, Ray Shafer of Caldwell, W.Va. Bob is also survived by sisters in-law, Mary Shafer, Sylvia Shafer, Ann Shafer, Faye Shafer, Evelyn Morgan and brothers in-law, Charles D. Holley and Raymond Toothman and good friend, Winfred Baker.

Services will be 3 p.m. on Sunday, December 18, 2011, at Zion’s Light Baptist Church, Ronceverte, with the Revs. Gary Baker and Dudley Morgan officiating. Burial will followin the McLean Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Ronceverte.

Friends may call from 1 to 3 p.m. at the church on Sunday.

Belvah A. Spencer

 I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. II Timothy Chapter 4:7. The gates of Heaven opened wide on Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at 4:21 p.m. and welcomed home our beloved Angel, Belvah Arline Cook Spencer, 82, of Pierpoint.

Born August 8, 1929 she was the daughter of the late Emory Hobert Cook and Elsie Jane (Meadows) Cook.

Belvah was a homemaker, was a former employee of GC Murphy Company, was a former Sunday School teacher at Pierpoint Freewill Baptist Church, and she loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents she is also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Judy Ann Spencer; a son, Larry Dean Spencer; an infant great granddaughter, Cheyenne Cox; and a brother, Mark Hayden Cook.

Those left to cherish her loving memories are her son, Terry A. Spencer and his companion, Amy Hageman of Fayetteville, Ga.; a daughter, Susan L. Spencer Blankenship and her husband, Robert (Bobby) of Allen Junction; seven grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; one brother, James “Bud” Cook and his wife, Betty Jo of Toano, Va.; and a sister, Nona Kirby of Williamsburg, Va.

Services will be 1 p.m. Monday, December 19, 2011 at Tankersley Funeral Home Chapel, Mullens with Rev. Lewis Arnold officiating. Burial will follow in the Jim Cook Cemetery, Otsego.

Friends may call one hour prior to services Monday at the funeral home.

Kathryn Marie  Buckland Tuggle

PETERSTOWN — An earthly beacon was released into the majestic light of our Father in Heaven on Thursday, December 15, 2011. Marie’s (Granny’s) spirit left her body while at home surrounded by the love and care of her family.

She joins family and friends in Heaven who now enjoy her presence including:  husband, William (Bill) Tuggle; daughter, Nora Jeffers; parents, Neal and Barcie Buckland; and siblings Lucille, Theodore and Clinton.

The remaining family includes: brother, Corky Buckland and wife Loretta, sister, Mary Ellen Guynn and husband Frank “Cotton”. Children: Neal Tuggle, Carol Tuggle Wentz and husband Jim, Bill Tuggle and wife Bobbie, John Tuggle and wife Romona, son-in-law Jasper Jeffers II (Sonny). Grandchildren: Jasper Jeffers III (Jeff)  and wife Bella Truong, Jennifer Philpot and husband Jesse, Adam Jeffers and wife Meredith, Rachel Wentz, Mitch Tuggle, Tanner Tuggle, Sarah Tuggle, Jeremiah Tuggle and wife Cortney, Meagan Jones and husband Mark. Granny was blessed with seven great- grandchildren; Jasper Jeffers IV (Jack); Emma, Eli and Ellis Philpot; Sophia, Naomi and Gloria Jeffers.

Marie’s glow touched those around her by being a steadfast mother and vibrant leader in her church (Peterstown United Methodist) and community holding a number of positions of service.

A celebration of Marie’s life is scheduled at her church, Peterstown United Methodist in Peterstown, at 3 p.m., Sunday, December 18, 2011 with Dr. John Sauvage and Rev. Jim Malik officiating. A time for friends and family to visit is from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, December 18, 2011 at the church.

Final devotions and goodbyes will be expressed by the family at the Peterstown Cemetery.

Mary Webb

NEW RICHMOND — Mary Webb, 88, formerly of Sandlick, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, December 13, 2011, at Wyoming Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Born November 12, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Juanita Kinser Short.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carlos Bernard Webb and a grandson, Matthew Webb.

Those left to cherish Mary’s memory are her seven children, Marie Tilley and her husband, Donald, of  North Carolina, Carlos and Elizabeth Webb, of  Louisiana, Eugene and Rhona Webb, of Indiana, Odell Webb, of McGraws, David and Donna Webb, of Sandlick, Timmy and Eva Webb, of Glen Rogers, Jimmie Dean Webb, of Pineville, and Bobby Webb, of Sandlick; 16 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

A celebration of Mary’s life will take place at 2 p.m. Saturday, December 17, 2011, in the Evans Memorial Chapel, with Pastor Nathan Vance offficiating. Interment will follow at Clay Cemetery, Saulsville.

Kenneth Laird  Withrow

FAYETTEVILLE — Kenneth Laird Withrow, 75, passed away Thursday, December 15, 2011 at Plateau Medical Center, Oak Hill.

Born on October 7, 1936 at Garten, he was the son of the late Carl Edward and Vivian Grace Holliday Withrow.

Mr. Withrow was a retired US Air Force veteran with 21 years of service. He served in Vietnam where he received a Bronze Star. He retired from Urethane Specialties and Supply with over 20 years of service.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, James Withrow.

Left to cherish his memory include his wife: Connie Kay Snyder Withrow of Fayetteville; two sons: Kevin Withrow of Falling Waters, and Mike Withrow and wife, Jessica of Martinsburg; brother: Jerry Withrow of Martinsburg, sister: Lela Chupka of Richmond, Va.; grandson: Kevin Withrow Jr.; nephews and niece: Stephen Withrow, Michael Chupka Jr., Scott Withrow, Terry Ann Dantzic; and a host of other family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Monday, December 19, 2011 at Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home Chapel, Fayetteville, with Pastor Justin Seay officiating. Burial with military rites conducted by American Legion Post 149, will be at Huse Memorial Park, Fayetteville.
