Carl M. Stewart
ROCKVIEW — Carl M. Stewart, 81, of Rockview, went home to be with the Lord and his heavenly family on Monday, Oct. 1, 2012.
Born Nov. 15, 1930, at Itmann, he was the son of the late Walter O. and Edith Godfrey Stewart.
Carl was a member of the Rock Castle Baptist Church. He was a very proud Marine Sergeant having served his country during the Korean War where he earned a Purple Heart. Carl was retired from the Wyoming County Board of Education as an Auto Body Repair instructor.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father- and mother-in-law, Roy and Myrtle Goddard; his sisters, Lena Hill, Clarice Hill, Garnette Stewart and Ethel Stewart; and a brother, Clair Stewart.
Survivors include his loving wife of 61 years, Virginia “Catherine” Goddard Stewart; a son, William Stewart and his wife, Carolyn, of Wyoming; a daughter, Kathy Stewart and her fiancé, Ed Bolen, of Princewick; grandchildren, Sherri Brewster, Melissa Haynes and her husband, Tommy, Chris Mullens and his wife, Sabrina and Ashley Harper and her husband, Joshua; great-grandchildren, Johnta’ Brewster, Tyler Haynes, Bryleigh Harper, Matthew Harper and Caleb Mullens; and Tammy Halsey of Rockview, who was like a daughter to him.
A celebration of Carl’s life will be 1 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 4, 2012, at Calfee Funeral Service Chapel, Pineville with the Rev. Evan Arkell and Bob Adams officiating. Burial will follow in Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny.
Pallbearers will be Chris Mullens, Tommy Haynes, Joshua Harper, Jeff Halsey, Johnny Goddard and Donnie Cook. Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Adams and Lonnie Green.
Family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2012 at the funeral home.
Military rites will be performed by the Wyoming County Honor Guard.
