ALVON — Mason Lake Alderman, 85, of Alvon, W.Va., died Sunday, September 30, 2012.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, October 4, 2012, at Shanklin Funeral Home, White Sulphur Springs, with Rev. Gene Sizemore officiating. Burial will follow at Rosewood Cemetery, Lewisburg.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, October 3, 2012 at the funeral home.

Ronald Lee Cook
GLOUCESTER, Va. — Ronald Lee Cook, 88, of Gloucester, formerly of Oceana, passed away on Wednesday, September 26, 2012, at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born May 5, 1924, in Oceana, a son of the late John Homer and Sadie Elizabeth Cook.
He graduated from Oceana High School in May of 1942 and joined the Marine Corps and rose to the rank of sergeant, having served in the Solomon Islands and also the Treasury Island-Bougainville operations. Following his discharge in 1945 he attended West Virginia University from 1945-1949 majoring in history. He served as principal at Oceana High School and in 1949 he became supervisor for the Wyoming County Board of Education, a position that he held until 1984. When the Korean War broke out, he entered the U.S. Army as a company commander and rose to the rank of captain and saw action during Pork Chop Hill.
Ronald was a member of Bellamy United Methodist Church in Gloucester and sang in the choir. He was a charter member of the Middle Peninsula Detachment No. 1317 of the Marine Corps League.
He was also preceded in death by his brother John Willard Cook who died during Wolrd War II.
He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Betty Ann Claypool Cook; his two daughters Virginia Lynn Ellis and Colleen Morgan; five grandchildren Jennifer Knowles, Jason Knowles, Devon Rowan, Lauren Rowan, and Josh Rowan; and two great grandchildren, and a host of other loving family and friends.
The family received friends at Bellamy United Methodist Church on Tuesday October 2, 2012, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. with the services starting at 11:30 a.m.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 4, 2012, at the Oceana United Methodist Church, Oceana. He will be laid to rest in Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny. The Wyoming County Veterans Honor Guard will conduct military rites.
Friends may gather with the family from 10 a.m. until time of service at the church.
