Mable Pearl Blankenship

PERSINGER — Mable Pearl Blankenship, 70, of Persinger, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2012.

Services will be 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 30, at Simons-Coleman Funeral Home, Richwood, with Pastor Shirley Hellms officiating. Burial will follow in the Cox Cemetery, Birch River. Friends may call 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Ronald Lee Cook

GLOUCESTER, Va. — Ronald Lee Cook, 88, of Gloucester, formerly of Oceana, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2012.

Paul Richard Hall Sr.

MCROSS — Paul Richard Hall Sr., 67, of McRoss, passed away Friday, September 28, 2012, at his home following a battle with cancer.

Born January 24, 1945, in Pocahontas County, he was the son of the late George B. Hall and Edith M. Morris.

Paul worked for MeadWesvaco for over 42 years, was a U.S. Navy veteran who served during the Viet Nam Conflict and was of the Baptist faith. He loved to travel, was a fan of the Atlanta Braves and an avid WVU fan.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a daughter Melissa Shook; his first wife Brenda Kirk Hall; a sister Judy Ann Hall; two stepbrothers Mike and Pat McQuain; and a stepsister Pat Cordial.

Survivors include his wife Janice Bennett Hall; a son Paul Richard (Rick) Hall Jr. of Spotsylvania, Va.; a brother George Hall and wife Juanita of Rainelle; two sisters Nancy Kennedy and husband John of Philadelphia, Pa., and Frances White and husband Bob of Binghamton, N.Y.; a stepbrother Roscoe McQuain and wife Penny of Rainelle; three stepsisters Betty Dillon and husband Bob of Baltimore, Md., Charlotte Finnigan of New Jersey and Gail Hanshew and husband Gary of Green Sulphur Springs; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday, October 1, 2012, at Smathers Funeral Chapel with Pastor Fred Fryar officiating. Burial will follow in the Wallace Memorial Cemetery at Clintonville. Military honors will be presented by Oak Hill V.F.W. Post #3110.

Friends may call Sunday, September 30, at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m.

George E. ‘Mutt’ Morris

LEWISBURG — George E. “Mutt” Morris, 92, passed away Thursday, Sept. 27, 2012, at the Autumn Way Assisted Living Home in Rupert, after a long illness.

Born Sept. 2, 1920, at Ronceverte, he was the son of the late Moffitt E. and Maude Lightner Morris.

Mr. Morris was a lifelong resident of Greenbrier County, a lifelong member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, Ronceverte, and was employed during World War II as a mail carrier in Ronceverte, also by Rocco Feeds, having retired from Combustion Engineering of Lewisburg in 1991. “Mutt” was a lover of all sports and played most of them in his younger years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Mildred Williams, and a brother, Earl “Rusty” Morris.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Gloria Feamster Morris of Lewisburg; brothers, Roy Morris and wife, Sarah, of Ronceverte, and Donald Morris of Roanoke, Va.; a sister, Dorothy Byers of Alexandria, Va.; nephews, Alan Morris and wife, Karen, of Lewisburg, and Ernest Morris of Fairlea; nieces, Angie Morris and husband, Sam Massie, of Ronceverte, and Kay Austin and husband, Shawn, of Charlotte, N.C.; great-niece, Tiffany Steele and husband, Chris, of Ronceverte, and great-nephew, Ethan Morris of Fort Campbell, Ky.

Service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 30, 2012, at the Trinity United Methodist Church, Ronceverte, with the Rev. Mike Estep officiating. Burial will follow in the Rosewood Cemetery, Lewisburg.

Friends and family may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012, at the Longanacre Funeral Home, Fairlea, and at the church 30 minutes before the service.

FAYETTEVILLE — Emily Mae Eades Norford, 93, of Fayetteville, passed away Friday, Sept. 28, 2012.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 1, at the Fayetteville United Methodist Church with the Rev. Clare Sulgit-Horn, the Rev. Roy Gene Crist, and Pastor Jack Eades officiating. Burial will follow in Huse Memorial Park, Fayetteville. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at the church.

CLEMMONS, N.C. — Willie B. Perkins, 88, of Clemmons, formerly of Alderson, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2012.

Stacey Gail Rakes

OAK HILL — Our sunshine baby is now where the SON shines forever. At the end of this life is an open door and beyond that threshold, there is peace. Stacey Gail Rakes was an earth angel who touched many lives. We rejoice in knowing that all of her severe handicaps are gone and she is whole and running through the streets of Heaven. In her brief life, even with all her disabilities, she touched countless lives.

Born April 1, 1974, at Beckley, Stacey Gail Rakes, 38, of Oak Hill, died on Wednesday, September 26, 2012, at Plateau Medical Center in Oak Hill.

She was a much loved member of the Oak Hill Church of the Nazarene.

Stacey is survived by her devoted parents, Sherri Blake Groves and Terry “Papa T” Groves; two sisters, Nikki Hall and husband, Keith, of Fairdale and Lisa Brown and husband, Marc, of Phoenix, Ariz., and nieces and nephews, Brittany Alderman and husband, Lewis, Courtney Cook and husband, Mike, Corey Brown, Coty Brown, and Tyler Brown.

Also surviving are her very special great-nieces and nephews, Madisyn, London, Kendra, Michael, Hunter and Legend, her wonderful church family and her father, Paul Rakes of Oak Hill.

Funeral services will be on Sunday, September 30, 2012, at 2 p.m. at the Oak Hill Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Jerry Bush officiating. Burial will be at Gethsemane Memorial Gardens, Oak Hill.

Friends may call one hour prior to the service on Sunday at the church.

Men of the church will serve as pallbearers.

SUMMERSVILLE — Diana Yvonne Reed, 59, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2012.

Kimberly Kay Rose

LEWISBURG — Kimberly Kay Rose, 41, of Lewisburg, lost the fight to a long cancer battle and brain tumors on Wednesday, September 26, 2012, at the White Sulphur Springs Nursing Home.

Born on March 25, 1971, in Hopewell, Va., she was the daughter of Earl and Drema Richmond Rose of Lewisburg.  

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Fairlea, and was once employed by The Greenbrier hotel. She was a warm and loving soul that got along with everyone she came into contact with.

Preceding her in death include her maternal grandmother, Eloise Via Richmond, in 2011; paternal grandparents, John and Alma Purdue Rose, in 1985. 

Besides her parents, those left to cherish her memory include her beloved daughter Laurieanne Moore; two sisters, Michelle (Brian) Zicafoose of Charlotte, N.C., and Kelly (Jimmy) Banton of Lewisburg; one brother, Edward (Leslie) Rose of Loganville, Ga.; three nieces, Addison Rose, Josie and Sandy Banton; two nephews, Peyton Banton and Richmond Rose; and maternal grandfather, Bernard Richmond of Jumping Branch.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday, October 1, 2012, at the First Baptist Church of Fairlea, with Pastor Kevin Prevett officiating. Burial will follow at the Lilly-Crews Cemetery in Nimitz.

Friends may call from noon until time of services Monday at the church.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
