Mrs. Louella Amar, 82, of Glenn Ave., Beckley, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2012.
Arrangements are pending completion at Durgan Funeral Home, 1501 S. Kanawha St., Beckley.
Juanita Marie Brakefield
Juanita Marie Brakefield, 87, of Coal City, went home to be with the Lord on October 24, 2012. She died peacefully at home and was among her family.
Born at Lego, W.Va., on February 10, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Ralph L. Lilly and Aldie Reedy Harvey Lilly.
She was a Christian and of the Baptist faith, Juanita was a charter member of the Princewick Missionary Baptist Church. She taught Sunday school and was a President of the Mission Circle. She then became a member of the Sunset Hills Missionary Baptist Church. She was also active in the visitation of the sick of the community and assisted in church work. In her younger years she worked for Mountain Market and Shumates Grocery in Coal City, W.Va. She loved to fellowship with her friends and family and would want them to eat something before they left her home. She will be sadly missed by all those who knew her.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, John Dewey Brakefield, following 65 years of marriage; a grandson, Steven Brakefield; a daughter-in-law, Andrea Sue Brakefield, a sister, Loretta Crews and husband, Andrew; and brothers, Hershal, Harold, and Bobbie Lilly.
Those left to cherish her memory include three sons, Bennie Brakefield and wife, Catherine, Lemuel D. Brakefield of Coal City, and Larry Brakefield and wife, Judy of Elkridge, Md.; a sister, Patricia Cook and husband, Ralph of Dothan, Ala.; three brothers, Dewey H. Lilly and wife, Lavera of Beckley, and Ralph “Cripp” Lilly and wife, Grace of Romulus, Mich.; also, grandchildren, Sheila Canterbury, Aaron N. Brakefield, Jonathan Brakefield, Robert Brakefield, Jennifer Brakefield, Stacy Brakefield; three great-grandchildren, Madison Brakefield, Erich Brakefield, and Alyssa Brakefield.
The family would like to thank all of the friends and family who visited in time of sickness, the church for your prayers and cards, Mrs. Nedra Lilly and caretaker, Yulaine Murphy, and Hospice of Southern W.Va.
Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, October 27, 2012 at the Sunset Hills Missionary Baptist Church, Coal City, with Pastor Timothy Mitchem and former Pastor Melvin Jamison officiating. Following the services Juanita will be laid to rest beside her husband, John at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.
Friends may gather with the family from noon until time of service Saturday at the church.
