Naomi Kathern Miller Allen Ryan
PENCE SPRINGS — Naomi Kathern Miller Allen Ryan, age 95, of Pence Springs, formerly of Coal City, W.Va., passed away on Saturday, October 13, 2012 at her home in Pence Springs, following a short illness.
Born April 12, 1917 in Creamery, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Oscar T. and Mary Lucy Bowyer Miller. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Ryan on November 14, 1983; a step-daughter, Ronetta Frye; a brother, Harry T. Miller; a sister, Reva Lois Ritter; and a half-brother, Oscar T. Miller Jr. At the time of her death, Mrs. Ryan was the last surviving member of the Oscar and Mary Miller Family.
Mrs. Ryan was the co-owner and operator of Ryan’s Grocery, Pence Springs, and was formerly a sales clerk at East Gulf Grocery, East Gulf, W.Va. She was a member of the Pence Springs Community Church, Pence Springs, where she was a member of the Church Choir. Mrs. Ryan was a member of the Hinton Senior Citizens and loved her friends there. She loved singing, her friends, and the outdoors. Mrs. Ryan loved to hunt and fish.
Survivors include a daughter, Hazel Louise Allen Bolen Canady of Sun City, Ariz.; two grandchildren, Greg Bolen and his wife, Kathy, of Chesapeake, Va. and Regina Gill of Coatesville, Pa.; a step-son, Roger Ryan and his wife, Patricia, who were like a son and daughter, of Glen Daniel, W.Va.; four step-grandchildren, Jeffery Ryan and his wife, Melissa, of Mount Hope, W.Va., Lisa Ryan and her companion, Missy Bailey, of Glen Daniel, W.Va., Charles Frye and his wife, Karen, of Glen Daniel, W.Va., and Monica Akers of Glen Daniel, W.Va.; a nephew, David Ritter and his wife, Sheila, of Woodbine, Md.; three nieces, Darlene Lane of Frederick, Md., Debbie Crump and her husband, David, of Ellicott City, Md., and Lisa Davenport of High Point, N.C.; 12 great- grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
Funeral services will be Saturday, October 20, 2012 at 1 p.m. at the Pence Springs Community Church, Pence Springs, with the Rev. Roger Persinger and the Rev. Robbie Merritt officiating. Burial will follow at the Haven of Rest Cemetery, Pence Springs.
Friends may call on Saturday, October 20, 2012 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Pence Springs Community Church, Pence Springs.
Serving as pallbearers will be Dale Hedrick, Steve Hedrick, Jessie Arthur, Bob Cales, John Parkin, Ray Miller, Eric Persinger, and David Jones.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Nathan Hedrick and the Men of the Pence Springs Community Church.
