Trecia Cheryl Peterson

MALDEN — Trecia Cheryl Peterson, 52, of Malden, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, October 17, 2012, at home after a very courageous battle with cancer.

She lived each day with faith, focus and love to help her get through life; and told people each day she was living because she knew that God had a purpose for her illness.  Her braveness and courage inspired many others who were fighting similar battles. She attended Bible Center Church in Charleston for 17 years.

Trecia was a graduate of DuPont High School and West Virginia University. She held a Masters Degree from Marshall University; and was a few hours short of earning her Doctorate from Marshall University.

Trecia was an employee of Kanawha County School System for 29 years, currently serving as the Assistant Principal at South Charleston High School; and was the State of West Virginia Assistant Principal of the Year in 2009. As a teacher and administrator, she touched and inspired countless lives in the Kanawha Valley.

She is survived by her loving husband and the light of her life, W L “Squeak” Peterson; her loving mother, Elizabeth “Betty” Moore Hoskins; daughter, Kristy L. Peters (James); grandson, Corey R. Peters, who had become the joy of her life with countless moments and silly secrets shared; uncle, Norman (Brenda) Moore; lifelong friend, Stephanie White Washington; brothers-in-law, Charles (Peggy) Peterson, Bob (Mary) Peterson and Jamie (Christie) Peterson; and a host of family and friends.

A celebration of Trecia’s life will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, October 20, 2012, at Bible Center Church, Southridge Campus, with Pastor Dr. Eric Mounts and the Rev. John Appleton officiating. The burial will follow the service in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes.

Family and friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to the Trecia Peterson Memorial Scholarship Fund. The memorial scholarship will be given to a graduating senior from South Charleston High School who has overcome an adversity either of themselves or of a family member. Checks may be sent to SCHS, 1 Eagle Way, South Charleston, West Virginia 25309. Please write “Peterson” on the memo line.
