Walter Cleveland Bradley

ALDERSON — Walter Cleveland Bradley, 84, of Alderson, passed away Saturday morning, Jan. 4, 2014.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, at the Groves Funeral Home Chapel in Union with the Rev. Clifford Stone and the Rev. Jimmy Rogers officiating. Burial will follow at the Mt. View Cemetery at Sweet Springs. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, at the funeral home.

Groves Funeral Home in Union is in charge of arrangements.



Margaret Ruth Collier

Margaret Ruth Collier, 85, of Beckley, passed away peacefully after an extended illness on Saturday, January 4, 2014, with her loving family at her side.

Born September 2, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Nick and Elizabeth Easton Thompson.

Margaret was a graduate of Stoco High School and a graduate of the Raleigh General Nursing School. She was a registered nurse for forty-three years. Margaret was of the Christian faith and she dedicated her life to her family and friends. She was loved by everyone.

In addition to her parents, Margaret is preceded in death by her first husband James E. Agee, and her sister Patty Thompson Calvert.

Those left to cherish her memory include her devoted husband Bill Collier; sons, James E. Agee and wife Drema of Stanaford, Mark H. Agee and wife Edna of Woodbridge, VA, Matthew P. Agee and wife Tina of Fredrick, MD, William “Pat” Collier and wife Renee of Dinwiddie, VA, John C. Collier and wife Meredith of Beckley; stepson, Matthew D. Young of Atlanta, GA; brother, Nick Thompson; 9 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 7, 2014, at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley.

Friends may gather from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, January 6, 2014, at the funeral home.

Frances Mae Gillispie Dickens

Frances Mae Gillispie Dickens of Rock Creek, WV, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 4th, 2014, at Raleigh General Hospital, Beckley, WV.

She was born October 28th, 1929, at Reidsville, North Carolina, a daughter of the late John Henry Thomas Gillispie and Florence Doss Gillispie.

She was a pastor’s wife of the Jesus Church for about 65 years, and also a dedicated Christian.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Clinton Dickens for 64 years, a daughter, Thelma Dickens, a son, Clifford Dickens, and granddaughters Kimberly and Frances K. Dickens, and a daughter-in-law Rebecca Dickens, brothers, Johnny Gillispie, sisters, Sally, Effie, Evelyn.

She is survived by her loving family: children, Charles and wife Sandra Kay Doss Dickens of Eunice, Jerry G Dickens of Rock Creek, Betsy and Robert Loudermilk Sr. of Rock Creek, James R. and wife Kay of Naoma, David D. and wife Judy of Jumping Branch, Thomas H. and wife Dena of Thomasville, North Carolina; sisters, Mary and Mamie; brothers, Sam and Franklin. Grandchildren: Sheila and Billy, Tammy and Kelly, Charles and Danielle, James Ray Jr., Jody, Makayla, Miranda and Derek, David Jr., Harrison, Samantha, Carlos and Kim, Robert Jr. and Mendy, Bruce and Alison, Tracy. Stepchildren: Savanah, Corey, Misty, Michael. Great-grandchildren: Aaron and Chelsey, Andrew and Brittany, Steven, Maggie, Rebecca, Seth, Joseph, Chole, Caleb, Hanna, Abel, Lilly, Bryan, Treaton, Abigail, Kaylynn, Alicia, Bruce Jr., Nicole, Arianna, Destiny, Zack, Jr. Lee, Elaina. Great-great-grandchild: Abigail.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon, January 8, 2014, at 1 o’clock in the Armstrong Funeral Home, Whitesville, WV, with Bishop Leonard Dickens and Pastor Donnie Russell and singers Turner Family. Interment is in Pineview Cemetery, Orgas, WV.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Gerald L. Frazier

GLEN FORK — Gerald L. Frazier, 62, passed away Friday, Jan. 3, 2014.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, at Evans Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Valdus Bailey officiating. The family will receive friends from noon until time of service Wednesday at the funeral home.

Carol A. ‘Pinky’  Harvey

Carol A. “Pinky” Harvey, 63, of Beckley, WV, died at home January 3, 2014, after a short illness.

Born April 22, 1951, in the Wyoming General Hospital in Mullens, WV, she was the daughter of the late Willie and Cassie Smith Grant.

She graduated from Mullens High School in 1969. After twenty years, she retired from the U.S. Air Force as a Master Sergeant.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and one brother, Willie B. Grant.

Those left to cherish her memories are her two sons, Anthony and Michael Harvey, both of Beckley; two brothers, Danny and Samuel Grant, both of Beckley; three sisters, Thelma Cave of Beckley, Pamela (Jackie) Smith of Columbus, Ohio, and Pamela (Zachary) Woodson of Oak Hill, WV; a special friend, Dennis Burks, a special niece, Shawanna Wright, and a special caregiver, Lisa Mitchell, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

There will be no visitation and no funeral, as requested by the family.

Beulah Priscilla Jarrell

Beulah Priscilla Jarrell of Dry Creek, WV, passed away on Friday, January 3, 2014, at her home after a long illness.

“She is gone to be a flower in the Master’s Bouquet.

“Mam” as everyone called her was born on November 5, 1927, in Horse Creek, WV, a daughter of the late Sidney and Bertie Miller Jarrell.

In addition to her parents, Mam was preceded in death by husband, Gordon Keith Jarrell; several brothers and sisters, Marshall, Sidney, Bill, Scott, Darrell, Lemmie, Curt, Mabel, Lora, and Linda; and one grandchild, Carrie Jarrell.  

She is survived by four sons, Callias Jarrell, Kirby Jarrell and wife, Barbara, Tim Jarrell, Jake Jarrell and wife, Christa; a sister, Annie Jarrell and husband, Roy; grandchildren, James, Jonni, Bill, Brian, Sydney, Jacob; great-grandchildren, Dylan, Alyssa, Madison, Aiden, Chloe, Isiah, Joshua, Angelo, Gage, and Dakotah; great-great-grandchildren, Anthony, Alianna, Avayah, Arielah and Feliciano.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon, January 7, 2014, at 1 o’clock in the Rebecca Chapel, Rock Creek, WV, with the Rev. David Cook. Interment is in Jarrell Cemetery, Jarrells Bottom, WV.

Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church.

EL PASO, Texas — Agnes Leona O’Brien, 64, a native of Ronceverte, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2013.

Grover Donald Plumley

FAYETTEVILLE — Grover Donald Plumley, 70, of Fayetteville, passed away Saturday, January 4, 2014, at home.

Born on July 22, 1943, at Winona, WV, he was the son of Grover Dewey and Ora Richmond Plumley.

Mr. Plumley was a WV Department of Highway retired Civil Engineer. He graduated from WV Tech at Montgomery (now WV University Institute of Technology). He served on the Fayette County Solid Waste Committee.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his twin sisters, Jerelene F. Young and Helene Plumley.

Left with many wonderful memories include his sister, Linda Lee Elmore (Harley) of Chattanooga, TN; nephews, Ronald Young (Nancy) of Beckley, Mike Young (Danita) of Fayetteville, Greg Young (Carrie) of Elkview and Marc Elmore of Chattanooga, TN; nieces, Sherri Lucas (Doug) of Glen Daniel and Cathy Gist (Greg) of Plano, TX, and brother-in-law, Loren Young of Fayetteville. Other survivors include Jamie Young of Hamilton, NJ, Katie Young (Kyle) of Beckley, Stephanie and Mackenzie Young of Elkview, Taylor French of Charleston, Phillip (Leslie) Young of Charleston, Jackson Young and Chris (Tonja) Young, both of Fayetteville.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, January 8, 2014, at Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home, Fayetteville, with Pastor Justin Seay officiating. Burial will follow at Highlawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill.

The family will receive friends one hour before the funeral at the funeral home.
