On Sunday, Dec. 29th, 2013, our most cherished, John Ray Cox, of Daniels went home to be with the Lord after a long Illness. He was in his 81st year.
One of ten children, John Ray was born on July 19, 1932 at Skelton. He was the son of the late Charles A. and Nellie Sydenstricker Cox. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Carl Hubert Cox, Raymond J. Cox, Howard L. Cox, Samuel T. Cox, Charles A. Cox and sisters, Gracie M. Cox and Glennis Green. He is the dear brother of his surviving sisters, Eva Freeman of Clarksville, Tenn. and Lucille Palmer and her husband, Frank, of Beckley.
John worked for Kroger. He retired with 44 years of service. In his leisure time he enjoyed wood working and bowling. John loved time spent with his family. In his later years, he cherished the time with his grandchildren.
In addition to his sisters, John leaves to cherish his memory, his beloved wife, the former Sarah Lilly. To their union was born a son and two daughters. His oldest daughter, Teresa Ann has preceded him in death. He was the dear father to Susan Jackson and her husband, Andrew of Willamsburg, Va. and John Randall Cox and his wife, Julie of Clayton, N.C. He was the doting grandfather of Andrea Jackson and Savannah Jackson of Williamsburg and Mari and William Cox of Clayton.
