James Evans ‘Slim’ Bandy Sr.

James Evans “Slim” Bandy Sr., 79, of Beckley, passed away Saturday, June 1, 2013.

Born March 28, 1934, in Hayneville, Alabama, he was the son of the late James Ellis and Ella Mae Bandy.

Mr. Bandy was a retired, disabled veteran of the Korean War. He was an assistant to the Gospel Singaleers, as well as an avid fisherman and a devout Flying Eagles Basketball fan.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Gracie Saunders Bandy; daughter, Diana C. Bandy; grandson, Antonio Mitchell; three brothers, Eugene, David, and John Bandy; sister, Willie Ann Bandy Moss; and stepson, Jimmy L. Shannon.

Those left to cherish precious memories are three sons, James E. “Chuckie” (Trina) Bandy Jr. of Roanoke, VA, Lamont G. (Catherine) Mitchell of Charleston, WV, and Raymond L. (Carla) Mitchell of West Memphis, AR; two daughters, Angela S. (William) Nichols and Sonja R. Mitchell, both of Charleston, WV; two brothers, Cephas L. (Frances) Bandy of Indianapolis, IN, and James Ellis (Janice) Bandy III of Murietta, CA; one sister, Dortha R. Dennis of Philadelphia, PA; stepchildren, Michael Harbison of Marietta, GA, Eric Harbison of Antioch, CA, Allen Harbison of Charlotte, NC, James Harbison of Tampa, FL, Annette Harbison of Charleston, WV, Robin Harbison of Beckley, WV, and Linda Shannon of Columbus, OH; sister-in-law, Martha E. Bandy of Beckley, WV; twenty grandchildren; forty-seven great-great-grandchildren; loving and loyal companion, Ms. Dicie Spencer, caregivers, Glenda Wade, Lydia Spencer, and nephew, Dallas Bandy, and a host of other nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, June 6, 2013, at Welcome Baptist Church, 206 Eighth St., Beckley, with Revs. David Allen, Thomas Bradley, and Roosevelt Neal officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Memorial Park, Beckley.

Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718.
