Jacky Lee ‘Jack’ Chapman
On Tuesday, May 28th, 2013, our most cherished, Jacky Lee “Jack” Chapman, of Shady Spring, passed away at Pine Lodge following a short illness. He was shy one day of his 77th birthday.
Born at Beckley, he was the oldest of two sons, born to the late Raymond Edward and Thelma Irene Shanks Chapman. His brother, John Earl Chapman and his wife, Glenna of Eustis, Fla. survive.
“Jack” as he was affectionately known, spent his childhood at Beckley, graduating from Woodrow Wilson High School, Class of 1955. After graduation, he entered the US Air Force, where he served four years.
Jack was of an entrepreneurial spirit. His first venture was with General Heating, he then became a flight instructor with Buddy Cottle’s company, Air Transport, eventually becoming a corporate pilot for Elgin International. Jack owned his own construction company, Design Industries. Intrigued by radiant heat, he became a factory rep with Reflect-O- Ray and Space Ray. Jack was very successful in these ventures.
For the past 54 years, Jack has been married to the former Ann Burton of Kentucky. Jack and Ann were blessed with four children, Karen Sue Maynard and her husband, Roger of Hardy, Va., Raymond Keith Chapman and his wife, Bev of Palmyra, Va., John Kevin Chapman of Jumping Branch. Sadly, their youngest, Mitchell Kent died in 2001 at the age of 26. Jack and Ann worshiped at Daniels Bible Church. They have made their home in Shady Spring since 1979. Jack enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was the doting grandfather of John, Joseph, Kendra, Carrie, Chelsa, Zac and Tyler.
Jack was very fond of Ann’s family, the Burtons and his extended family. Among his relatives, he had a high regard for his first cousin, Betty Harvey who passed away in 2012.
On Saturday, June 1st at 1 p.m. there will be a “Service of Remembrance” at the Melton Mortuary Chapel. Pastors, Carl Dingus and Don Pflegar will be officiating. Jack will then be laid to rest beside his parents at the Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Prosperity. The family will receive friends from noon until the service hour.
Family members and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Henrietta Allen Rowe Cook
Henrietta Allen Rowe Cook, 78, of Naoma, peacefully passed to her heavenly reward, Wednesday, May 29, 2013.
Born April 4, 1935 to the late William “Ed” and Nora Harris.
In addition to her parents she was also preceded by husbands, James Allen, Ernest Rowe; sister, Joretta Pierson; step-sons, Larry Cook and James “Toby” Cook.
She was a devoted Christian, loved to sing and listen to gospel music, her grandchildren and great grandchildren were the light of her life and she was looking forward to the birth of another great grandson.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Bill Cook; her daughter, Betty Eads “Lewis” stepsons, Richard Cook, Jerry Cook “Beuleah” all of Naoma, step-daughters, Gloria Stanley “Scottie” of Artie, Regina Bailey “Frank” of Fairdale, step-daughter-in-law, Angie Cook; grandchildren, Amanda Bartlett of Princeton, N.C. and Jessica McDougal “Mat” of Winfield, W.Va., great grandchildren, Alyssa Bartlett, Ava Williams, Andrew Lewis Williams, Princeton, NC and Roman Duke McDaugal due June 13, 2013; several step grandchildren, and great grandchildren; sisters, Janie “Larry” Campbell, Louisa, Ky., Pearl Harris of Fairview Park, Ohio; brothers, Carl “Emma” Harris of Naoma; Roy “Karen” Harris of Lore City , Ohio and Paul “Rochella” Harris of Corpes Christi, Texas; many nieces, nephews and her beloved dog, Autumn.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the caring women of the Hubbard Hospice Care at Thomas Memorial Hospital in South Charleston, W.Va.
Service will be 11 a.m. Sunday, June 2, 2013, at the Armstrong Funeral Home, Whitesville, with the Revs. David Cook and Danny Gilfilen officiating. Singers will be John and Linda Hapney officiating. Interment will be in Tyler Mt. Memory Gardens at Cross Lanes.

Georgia Karen Henson
RAINELLE — Georgia Karen Henson, 70, of Rainelle, passed away Thursday, May 30, 2013 at her home following a courageous battle with cancer.
Born June 8, 1942 in Fayette County, she was the daughter of the late David Bruce and Georgia Hilda Sims Sanford.
Karen worked as a floor manager at Hills Department Store, Aides Discount in Rainelle and as the manager of the Rainelle Airport Restaurant. She also cleaned houses until she was unable to work. Karen was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her brother, Marion Sanford.
Surviving Karen are her sons Timmy Henson of Lexington, N.C. and Tommy Henson and wife Angela of Springdale; two brothers David “Big Dave” Sanford of Rainelle and Rick Sanford and wife Dolores of Muddy Creek Mountain; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, June 2, at Smathers Funeral Chapel, with Pastor Bennie Kenney officiating. Burial will follow in the Wallace Memorial Cemetery at Clintonville.

GREEN COVES SPRINGS, Fla. — Larry Rodney Martin, 72, of Green Coves Springs, a native of Terry, died Monday, May 27, 2013.

Nino Jarrod Moore, infant son of John J. and Aleisha Moore of Beckley, died Wednesday, May 29, 2013.
He was preceded in death by his great-grandmother, Dora F. Moore; great-grandfather, Warren Staples and uncle, Lil Ricky Jr.
In addition to his parents, those left to cherish his memory are his sisters, Nataysia J. and Nia J. Moore; paternal grandmother, Doreen S. Della Lucy “Tootie” Salisbury, 70 years and 7 months of age, passed away Thursday, May 30, 2013.

Nelva Lorrene Wilcox, 88, of Shady Spring, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 29, 2013.
Born June 4, 1924, she was a daughter of the late Oliver and Nora Bowling Lilly.
Mrs. Wilcox enjoyed cooking, sewing, and working in her garden. She also liked deer hunting, playing with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mrs. Wilcox was a member of the Shady Spring Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Wilcox is preceded in death by her husband, William A. Wilcox; brothers, Sterling Lilly, Earl Lilly, O.V Lilly and Don Lilly; sister, Josephine Crawford; grandchild, Frances Ann Treadway; great-grandson, Patrick Lee Treadway.
Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Nelva Jones (Robert) of Shady Spring; son, Bill Wilcox (Asja) of Okemos, Mich.; grandchildren, Lori Radford (Jeffrey), Terri Wilcox, Amy Kruppe (Frank), Brett Wilcox, Kris Vitols, Karina Salenieks (Alvis); great-grandchildren, Lt. Phillip Treadway, Joshua Radford, Rebekah Radford, Elizabeth Kruppe, Chris Kruppe, Jon Kruppe, Alexandra Kruppe, Mackenzie Wilcox, Merik Salenieks and Grant Salenieks; also many special nieces and nephews.
