Frieda Ann Adkins

Frieda Ann Adkins, age 78, of Shady Spring, passed away at the Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital on Tuesday, November 6, 2012.

Born on January 27, 1934 at McDowell, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late James B. Whittaker and Ida Mae Bolen Whittaker.

Mrs. Adkins was a homemaker, and a member of  the Salem Primitive Baptist Church at Mt. View.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Dasil Mitchem, by children, Jerry Lee, Kathy Lynn, and Linda Gail Catlett Woods, and by a granddaughter Christine Mitchem.

Those survivors left to cherish her memory include her husband, Basil G. Adkins Jr.;  sons, Eddie Darrell Mitchem and his wife Rosie of Daniels, Timothy Dasil Mitchem of  Shady Spring, Burley Dale Mitchem and his wife Tina of Sweeneysburg Road, Marvin Wade Mitchem and his wife Jackie of Mead, W.Va.; daughter, Debra Anne Terry and her husband Patrick of Indiana; two step children, Kevin E. Adkins and his wife Dana of  Kershaw, S.C.,  Nancy Adkins Bennett and her husband Kermit of Beckley; a brother, Roy V. Whittaker of Tennessee, and a sister Willie K. Crownover of Maryland; 25 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren, and a very special friend Mindy Crews of Pemberton.    

Funeral services will be conducted to Celebrate The Life of Frieda Adkins on Saturday,  November 10, 2012 at 1 p.m. at the Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home, Shady Spring Chapel, with Elder Tommy Pack officiating. Burial will follow at the Mt. View Cemetery at Mt. View.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Erma Phyllis Brown

Erma Phyllis Brown, 81, of Maple Fork, passed away Monday, November 5, 2012 after a brief illness.

Born November 16, 1930 at Eccles, she was the daughter of the late Roy Lee and Blanche Newman Lester.

Erma was a homemaker and a 1948 graduate of Trap Hill High School. She was a member of the Church of Christ on Carriage Dr. in Beckley where she also taught Sunday school.

Erma loved music, gardening and the outdoors.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Vernon Brown; brother, Lloyd Lester and sisters, Daphna White and Castilee White.

She is survived by her two sons, Michael H. Brown and wife Kylette of Beckley and Gregory V. Brown and wife Debra of Tuscaloosa, AL; grandchildren, Erin McRae Buckland and husband Greg  and Michael Kyle Brown of Beckley, James Gregory Brown and wife Shelley and Melissa Brown Miller and husband Gavin of Tuscaloosa, AL; great-grandchildren, Landon McRae Buckland, Julie E. Brown, Gregory Dalton Brown, Cole B. Styron, Caleb G. Miller, Ethan J. Miller and McKenna C. Miller; sister Joyce Terreo and husband Tony of Wheaton, Ill.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday, November 9, 2012 in the Calfee Funeral Home Chapel, with Minister Jim Wilson officiating. Entombment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.

Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to service on Friday at the funeral home.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
