Odessa Rose Johnson

Odessa Rose Johnson, age 83, of Cool Ridge, passed away at her home on Tuesday, October 30, 2012.

Born on August 20, 1929, in Cool Ridge, she was the daughter of the late Willie Thompson and Minnie Stanley Thompson.

Mrs. Johnson enjoyed working on the family farm, and had lived all of her life at Shady Spring and Cool Ridge.   

Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold Johnson, a son Eddie Johnson, daughter-in-law, Cathy Johnson, brothers, Curtis Thompson, Jack Thompson, by sisters, Pluma Thompson, Rennie Lambert, Betty Thompson, and Margie Ann Thompson.

Those survivors left to cherish her memory include her son, Billy Johnson of Cool Ridge, a daughter-in-law Connie Johnson of Cool Ridge, grandchildren, Flint and his wife Maura of Beckley, Derek and his wife Liz of Cool Ridge, Ian of Cool Ridge, and Ashleigh Smithson and her husband Paul of Shady Spring, and a great-grandchild, Ava Smithson of Shady Spring.

Mrs. Johnson was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Funeral services will be conducted To Celebrate The Life Of Odessa Johnson at the Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home Shady Spring Chapel on Saturday, November 3, 2012, at 3:30 p.m. with Pastor Jeff Thompson officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Prosperity.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday.

Amos Lee Lockhart

PANTHER — Amos Lee Lockhart, 69, of Panther, passed away Monday, Oct. 29, 2012.

Iris Maynard

OTSEGO — Frankie Iris Maynard, 59, of Otsego, was called home on Wednesday, October 31, 2012, in a Beckley hospital, following a long illness.

Born August 4, 1953, at Mullens, she was the daughter of the late Roy and Ola (Lester) McKinney.

Iris was a homemaker, a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, a former cook and monitor at the Itmann Homeless Shelter. She was a faithful member of Charity Baptist Church, Mullens, and in her leisure she enjoyed gardening and tending to her flowers.

In addition to her parents she is also preceded in death by three grandchildren, Mersadez, Jhaun Luke, and Jessica Leigh; and one brother, Virgil McKinney.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Rev. Dalley Maynard; her children, Dalley Jr., Amanda, and Shana; three grandchildren, Dalley III, Gavin, and Christopher; two sisters, Brenda Bishop of Barkers Ridge and Teresa Bishop of Basin; and four brothers, Arvil McKinney of Manassas, Va., Buck McKinney of Sullivan, Carlos McKinney of Princeton, and Danny McKinney of Barkers Ridge.

Services will be noon Saturday, November 3, 2012, at Tankersley Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Larry England and Rev. Roger Lusk officiating. Burial will follow in the Milam Cemetery, Barkers Ridge.

Friends may call one hour prior to services Saturday at the funeral home.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
