Carolyn Sue ‘Clark’ Bess
RICHWOOD — Carolyn Sue “Clark” Bess, 62, of Richwood, WV, went home to be with the Lord on September 6, 2012, in Charleston Area Medical Center, General Division, after a short illness.
Funeral service will be Sunday, September 9, 2012, at 2 p.m. at Simons-Coleman Funeral Home, Richwood, WV, with Rev. Troy George and Rev. Sam Gwinn officiating. Interment will be in Richwood Cemetery, Richwood, WV.
Visitation will be Saturday, September 10, 2012, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Simons-Coleman Funeral Home, Richwood, WV.

C. Harold Blankenship
C. Harold Blankenship, 80, of Beckley passed away at his home after a short illness on Friday, September 7, 2012. Born September 18, 1931, he was a son of the late Herbert and Maggie Simmons Blankenship.
He has been a faithful member of Beckley Presbyterian Church since 1959.
Harold was an avid golfer and he loved gardening the outdoors and spending time at his beach house in North Myrtle Beach.
He loved Mountaineer Football and Basketball; he was also a St. Louis Cardinals fan for over 70 years. Harold was a graduate of Graham High School in Tazewell, VA.
In addition to his parents, Harold is preceded in death by his brothers, Ellis Pyles, William Blankenship, Carl Lowe, and sisters, Reva Harmon, Opal Cannoy.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 47 years, Marlene Blankenship of Beckley; daughters, Sherry Snodgrass and husband Tom of Charlotte, NC, Connie Neal and husband Bobby of Beckley, WV; sons, David Blankenship and wife Angie of Charlotte, NC, Mark Blankenship and wife Danielle of Charlotte, NC, Joseph Blankenship and wife Allison of Powder Springs, GA; 15 grandchildren, Shelley (Samuel), Kevin, Christy, Ryan (Ashlei), Aaron, Brandon (Janelle), Rogan, Payne, Amanda, Madison, Braden, Nicholas, Megan, Joey, and Beau; 8 great-grandchildren, Erin, Anna, Katherine, Ben, Mary Elizabeth, Christian, Connor and Owen.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, September 9, 2012, at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley, with Rev. John McKinnon officiating.
Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Tom Snodgrass, Kevin Snodgrass, Bobby Neal, Ryan Neal, Aaron Neal, Brandon Neal and Bobby Blankenship.
Friends may gather with the family Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

MSGT James David Clackler
LEICESTER, N.C. — MSGT James David Clackler, 63, of Leicester, NC, formerly of Ansted, passed away at Charles George VA Medical Center in Ashville, N.C., following a long illness.
James David was born February 2, 1949, in Ansted, WV. He was a son of the late James Howard Clackler and Janet Mae Pridemore Clackler.
He was a MGST Medic in the U.S. Military, after retiring from the Air Force, with 21 years of service; his occupation was a CNA. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors are his wife, Carolyn Sue “Becky” Wilson Clackler; daughter, Jennifer McCorry and husband James of Burnsville, NC; Son, James Aaron Clackler of Ashville, NC; Sister, Diane Ward and husband Rennis of Ansted; Brother, Jerry Clackler of Ansted; 5 grandchildren.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, September 10, 2012, at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home Chapel in Ansted with Pastor Dave Minturn officiating. Burial will follow in Restlawn Memory Gardens in Victor.

Valerie Smith Paugh
Valerie Smith Paugh, age 76, of Shady Spring, passed away at Bowers Hospice House, surrounded by her loving family, on September 6, 2012, after a short and courageous battle with cancer.
Born June 18, 1936, in Fullem, England, to the late Rudolph Smith and Dorothy Usher Smith. Valerie was reared by her Aunts Elsie and Margery Usher.
Mrs. Paugh was a resident of Green Valley for 18 years before moving to Shady Spring where she has resided for the past 29 years.
Valerie met Ralph when he was stationed in England while serving in the Air Force. They were married on November 5, 1954. She came by freighter, along with Ralph and son Stephen to the United States to start her life here and to continue to raise her family. Valerie was previously employed by Beckley Manufacturing, Stone and Thomas, Belk, Paws and Claws, and most recently helped her daughter Lisa at Elite Tanning.
Valerie enjoyed spending time with her family, doing word search puzzles and with her dogs Wendy, Bailee, and Toby which she rescued.
In addition to her parents and aunts she was preceded in death by her beloved husband Ralph on December 17, 2000.
Those left to cherish her memory include sons, Stephen Paugh and wife Nancy and his daughter Ashley Gray of Glenview, Glen Paugh and his wife Sherry of Shady Spring; daughters, Renee Bowling and her husband Mark and their daughter Michelle Crook and her husband Travis of Cool Ridge. And Lisa Crook and husband Michael of Beckley; she was Nanny Maw Maw to great-grandchildren Cole and Carter Crook; sister, Wendy Spring and husband David and their son Matthew of Essex, England.
In honor and keeping of Mrs. Paugh’s wishes she will be cremated.
Memorial services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Saturday, September 8, 2012, at the Rose and Quesenberry Shady Spring Chapel with Rev. Dale Birchfield officiating.
Friends may call from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home on Saturday.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Hospice of Southern West Virginia or the American Cancer Society.

John Travis Winfrey
WILLIAMSBURG — John Travis Winfrey, 36, of Williamsburg, WV, completed his life’s journey and went home to be with the Lord Friday, September 7, 2012, at Greenbrier Manor in Fairlea, WV.
John was born June 17, 1976, in Union, WV, and is the son of Clyde and Debra Winfrey of Williamsburg, WV, and the son of Dreama and Phillip Burns of Fairlea, WV.
Survivors include his sister Sherry Winfrey of Lewisburg, WV, and two stepbrothers Fred Lambert of Shady Spring, WV, and Tucker Lambert of Beckley, WV, and five nieces and a nephew and several other family members.
John is remembered by a host of nurses and CNAs that love and cared for John for most of his life which he was blessed to have.
Services will be conducted Monday, September 10, 2012, at 2 p.m. with Pastor Dale Usey officiating at Morgan Funeral Home in Lewisburg, WV. Burial will follow at Windy Knoll in Williamsburg.
Pallbearers will be Phillip Burns, Larry Brown, Gary Bland, Jerry Vance, Donnie Winfrey, Fred Lambert, Tucker Lambert, and T.J. Gladwell.
