Ralph Allen Anderson

SYLVESTER — Ralph Allen Anderson, 87, of Sylvester, went home to be with the Lord, on Thursday, January 9, 2014, at his home after a long illness.

He was born May 6, 1926, at Tennessee, a son of the late Nathan Napoleon and Lavada Lavera Walker Anderson.

He was a U.S. Army Veteran having served his country during World War II. He was elected as the 14th Mayor of the town of Sylvester, W.Va., from 1987 through 1993. He was a Deacon and member of the First Baptist Church of Whitesville. He was a retired coal miner and member of the UMWA. He was the owner of Liberty Lanes in Whitesville, for over 15 years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Athleen “Sissy” Hughes Anderson; sisters and brothers, Beecher, Hermon, Ted, Lloyd, Flora, and Iris.

He is survived by two daughters, Shelia Anderson and Becky Anderson both of Sylvester; grandson, Chad Bolton and wife, Jacy, and one great-granddaughter, Abby; a sister, Peggy Roberts, and two brothers, Dalton Anderson and Gene Anderson and wife, Nancy.

Service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 12, 2014, at the First Baptist Church, Whitesville, with the Revs. W. Howard Gwinn and David Minturn officiating. Burial will follow in the Pineview Cemetery at Orgas.

Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014, at the Armstrong Funeral Home, Whitesville.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to First Baptist Church, Whitesville, W.Va.

Michael Chapman

Michael Chapman, 57, of Beckley, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014.

Ivory Delores McGinnis Dickerson

OAK HILL — Ivory Delores (McGinnis) Dickerson, of Oak Hill, entered into heaven on Wednesday, January 8, 2014.

She was born in 1927 at Hazy, W.Va., to the late Pearl Brady McGinnis and Thomas Honaker.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Thomas J. Dickerson, and two beloved sisters, Iona Stewart and Glorene Stone.

Ivory was a member of the Mountain View Church of God where she served as greeter and enjoyed taking part in Bible studies. She was also an avid reader and photographer and a member of the Cameras In Action Club of Oak Hill and, over the years, won numerous trophies for her work.

She is survived by her daughter, Sherry Graves of Summerfield, Fla.; two sons, David Hatcher and wife, Lynda, of Wildomar, Calif., and Michael Dickerson and wife, Kathi, of Fairdale; one grandson, Brian Graves of Portland, Ore.; five granddaughters, Deana McCallum of Ocala, Fla., Christy Stone and Kathy Hatcher both of Tucson, Ariz., Cybil Carlucci of Bluemont, Va., and Amy Linville of Eccles; four great-granddaughters; and two great-grandsons. She became acquainted with her sister, Debbie (Honaker) Westfall of Louisville, Ohio, later in life and they became dear friends and sisters in Christ.

Funeral Services will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, January 11, 2014, at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley, with Reverend Rudell Bloomfield officiating. Following her services she will be laid to rest beside her husband at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

Friends may gather with the family from 2 p.m. until time of the service Saturday at the funeral home.

Victor G. Giammerino, 74, of Stover, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2014.

CRAIGSVILLE — Katherine Hamrick, 65, passed away Thursday, Jan. 9, 2014.

Chole Mae Hensley

Chole Mae Hensley, stillborn infant daughter of Candice Hensley, died at 5:05 p.m. Sunday, January 5, 2014, at Raleigh General Hospital.

She was preceded in death by her great-grandparents, Barbara Jean Hensley and Ginnie Mae Harvey.

Survivors include her mother, Candice Hensley. Maternal grandmother, Terri R. Harvey and fiancé Donald Ward of Hinton, maternal grandfather, Anthony Hensley of Virginia, maternal great-grandfather, Forrest R. Hensley of Virginia, aunt, Trish Hensley and fiancé Gregory Little of Hinton, uncle, Chance Hensley of Hinton, great-uncle, Brent Hensley of Virginia and great-aunt, Jeanette Marion of Virginia.

Graveside services and burial will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, January 12, 2014, at the Wills Family Cemetery at Tug Creek, with Pastor Cecil Cox officiating. There will be no visitation.

Linda Louise Smith

On January 7, 2014, after a long hard battle, Linda Louise Smith went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Linda was preceded in death by her father, Clyde MacArthur Smith; grandparents Grace Brock, Charlie Clyde Smith and Lou Emma Marion; along with several uncles and other family members.

She leaves behind two wonderful, beautiful daughters, Gabrielle and Chyenne Clay; her mother, Phyllis “Jean” McMillion all of Sandlick; sister, Rebecca Adkins and spouse Scott of Eccles; brother, Clyde Matthew Smith and fiancée Melissa of Arnett; four nieces, Amanda Lively and spouse Chuck of Glen Daniel, Amanda Perry, Toni Perry and Amelia Smith all of Arnett, and nephews, Jordan Mancari of Eccles and Tyler M.W. Smith of Manchester, CT; along with numerous loving aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, January 11, 2014, at the Grace Independent Baptist Church with Pastor Benny Cozart officiating. Burial will follow in the Brock Family Cemetery at Arnett.

Friends may visit with the family at the church one hour prior to service on Saturday.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Esther Ritchie Toler

SABINE — Esther Ritchie Toler, born November 11, 1953, went to be with the Lord Monday, January 6, 2014, at Raleigh General Hospital after a sudden illness.

Esther was a homemaker, wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed going to church and spending time with her family and friends.

In addition to her parents, Claude and Evalina Ritchie, she was preceded in death by a brother, Roy Hamilton, and five nephews.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Wayne Toler of Sabine; daughter, Eva Ritchie and her fiancé, Paris Stewart, of New Richmond, and their children, Cassie Ritchie of Mullens and Michael Browning of New Richmond; daughter, Nicole Curry and her husband, Donnie Curry, of Pineville, and their children, Alexis Curry and Jacob Curry; daughter, Jessica Ritchie and her companion, Jason Compton, of Sabine, and their daughter, Cadence Compton; son, Bradley Ritchie and his wife, Carrie, of Josephine, and their children, Savannah Ritchie and Kylie Ritchie; great-grandchildren, Addison Ritchie, Lashayla Kennedy and one on the way; many brothers and sisters, nephews and nieces, and a large host of friends.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Raleigh General SICU and offer a special thank you to the Wyoming Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in New Richmond.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday, January 10, at Evans Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Darrell Stapleton, Rev. Tanya Smith and Rev. Cecil Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in Pinegrove Cemetery, Ravencliff. The family will receive friends from noon until time of service Friday at the funeral home.

John W. Wood

REMINGTON, Va. — John W. Wood, 49, of Remington, died at Fauquier Hospital in Warrenton, VA, on January 6, 2014.

He was born on October 15, 1964, in Beckley, WV. John was the son of Helen Linsky Riffe and Robert Wood. He graduated from West Virginia University in 1986 and was an IT Specialist for the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents John and Elizabeth Linsky and Ernest and Carol Wood and his beloved dog Yogi.

Survivors include his wife Dawn, children Ashley and Tyler, and one grandson Taylor Whorton of Remington, VA. His parents Helen Linsky Riffe of Daniels, WV, and Robert and Rebecca Wood of Hamptonville, NC. Additional survivors include Dawn’s parents Charlotte and Pat Murphy of Boyers, PA, and Robert and Lynn Huggins of Morgantown, WV. Dawn’s siblings Teresa and Allen Johnson of Morgantown, WV, Bobby and Sherry Huggins of Morgantown, WV, and Amber and Michael Simpson of Foot Hills Ranch, CA. One niece and two nephews and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, January 10, 2014, at Rose & Quesenberry Funeral Home, 1901 S. Kanawha St., Beckley, WV. Funeral services will be on Saturday, January 11, 2014, with viewing at 11 a.m. and funeral at noon. Rev. James Boyd will officiate. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum, Beckley, WV.
