Clark ‘Pee Wee’  Adkins

KENNEY MOUNTAIN — Clark “Pee Wee” Adkins, 61, of Keeney Mountain, died Monday,  December 16, 2013.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, December 19, 2013, at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel with Pastor Robbie Merritt officiating. Friends may call from noon until service time on Thursday. Following Clark’s wishes the body will be cremated following the services.

Paul McVey Bennett Jr., 80, of Beckley, passed away at the Charleston Area Medical Center General Division on Tuesday, December 17, 2013.

Larkin Edward DeLung

MOSSY — Larkin Edward DeLung, 68, of Mossy, died Sunday, December 15, 2013, in Raleigh General Hospital at Beckley.

Born on April 18, 1945; he will be missed by all.

He is survived by his daughter, Sherry and husband Victor Metz of Richmond, Va.; four grandchildren, Ashley and James Cottrell, Tiffani and Brooke Metz.

He was preceded in death by his father, James Marvin and mother, Ida Lafferty DeLung of Mossy; also sister, Ada Lou Davis of Dothan, W.Va.

Those left to cherish his memory are brothers, James DeLung and wife Patricia of Laurel, Md., Frank DeLung and wife Sharon of Oak Hill; sister, Gayle Kees and husband JR. of McHenry, Miss.; aunt Louise Treadway of Beckley, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, December 19, 2013, at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.

Friends may gather with the family Thursday from 1 to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Juddy Dickens

On Sunday, Dec. 15th, 2013, our most cherished, Juddy Ray Dickens of Claypool Hollow Road, Glen Daniel, passed away at the Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, following a short illness. He was 63 years of age.

Born May 15, 1950, in Charleston, he was the son of the late Corbitt and Virginia Brown Dickens. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Jerry and Leato Dickens and sisters, Hazel and Lucy.

Juddy was a retired coal, working for Peabody Coal Company. In his leisure time he enjoyed fishing, hunting, being outdoors and seeing his friends at the Moose.

Juddy was the beloved husband of Peggy Holsten Dickens; he was the dear father of daughters, Leslie (John) Pettery, Susan Dickens, Donna Dickens, Michelle Hopkins, Allison Dickens, Natasha Jarrell; sons, Jason Dickens and Juddy Anigus; a step son, Adam Hall; the brother of Joyce Derhammer (Jack) and Annie Willis (Norman); the grandfather of Brooklyn Pettery, Jada Hopkins, Alex and Camoron Workeman, McKayla Dickens, and Nick Barker.

Memorial Services will be Thursday, Dec. 19th, at 2 p.m. at the Naoma Freewill Baptist Church. Pastor Earl Brewer will be officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services.

Elizabeth Sue ‘Pete’ Ball Donat

CHESAPEAKE, Ohio — Elizabeth Sue “Pete” Ball Donat, 83 of Chesapeake, formerly of Hinton, died Sunday, December 15, 2013, at Main Street Care in Hinton following a long illness.

Born November 27, 1930, in Allen, Ky., she was the daughter of the late Lawrence Felmer and Ruby Clifton Ratliff.

Ms. Donat was a CNA and was former activities director for several nursing homes. She was also an accomplished artist and doll maker.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Bobby Ball and her second husband, Scott Donat. Also preceded in death by her brother, John Carroll Ratliff and her grandson, Shannon Bartgis.

Survivors include her children, Lyn Carver and husband Garry of Wellborn, Fla., Lou Bartgis and husband Kent of Hinton, Jim Ball and wife Diane of Chesapeake, Ohio and Joni Koenig and husband Karl of Hinton. Step-children, Scott Donat and Carolyn, Brian Donat, Deborah Panell and husband Larry and Edward Donat.

Grandchildren, Bryen Bartgis and wife Lisa, Kari Vickers and husband Chris, Betsy Reagor and husband Charles, Sarah Mixon and husband Jeff, Candy James and husband Don, Tammy Whited and husband Mike, Don Anderson and wife Lisa, Trisha Coffman and husband Stewart, Karl Koenig and Kristen Koenig, David Koenig and wife Amanda, Rebecca Donat, Lauren Panell, Scott Donat and wife Melissa, and Laura Beth Donat; 41 great grandchildren and eight great, great grandchildren. She is also survived by her forever friend Nancy Langdon.

Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Pivont Funeral Home Chapel in Hinton with Pastor Jeff Canterbury officiating. Interment will follow in Restwood Memorial Gardens in Hinton. Friends may call from noon until service time on Friday at the funeral home.

PRINCETON — Deanna Neeley Farley, 70, of Princeton, died Sunday, December 15, 2013.

Carolyn Sue Graham

On Friday, Dec. 13th, 2013, our beloved, Carolyn Sue Graham of Stotesbury, passed away at Raleigh General Hospital. She was 59 years of age.

Carolyn was born on May 25th, 1954 at Hobbs, New Mexico. Her parents were the late Edward Frank and Jewell Collens Marek.

A resident of Stotesbury, Carolyn was a homemaker. She enjoyed canning and going to yard sales.

She was the loving wife of Ernest B. Graham; the precious mother and devoted  grandmother of James Shelton and his wife Misty Lee and their children, Colby James, Ashton, and Chloe all from Smithville, Texas; David Shelton of Port Aransas, Texas and his children, Taylor Shelton and Tanner Moffett and Tiffany Breanne Shelton; and Misty Dawn Shelton and her children, Colton Dunlap, Tori Dunlap,Baby Madison Gay, all from Smithville.

Funeral services will be Thursday, Dec. 19th, at 1 p.m. at the Stotesbury Community Church. Pastor Tom Cox will be officiating. Carolyn will be laid to rest in the Lewis Graham Cemetery at Basin. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until the service hour at the church.

Dolin Lanvel Kirby

ALDERSON — Dolin Lanvel Kirby, 94, died on Monday, Dec. 16, 2013.

He was born Sept. 13, 1919, on Kirby Mountain near Alderson, W.Va., his parents were the late Clyde E. and Bessie Canterbury Kirby.

On July 27, 1940, he married ER. Faye Knapp and they celebrated their 71st year anniversary before Faye died in December 2011. Dolin and Faye lived over 40 years in Rainelle, W.Va., where he worked at Meadow River Lumber Company and Georgia Pacific. In 1983 they retired and moved back to Alderson. His favorite hobby was listening to the fox hounds chase the foxes.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and brother, Carmel Kirby, Alderson; also six brothers-in-law, James, Ervin, Clarence and Calvin Knapp, Orice Thompson and Jim Allen; six sisters-in-law, Flossie, Helen, Elizabeth and Edith Knapp and Gladys Thompson and Grace Allen.

He is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Charlotte and Ron Melton of Alderson. Grandchildren, Anthony and Jennifer Bowden, Alderson and Amanda and Shane Wheeler, Hinton. Great grandson, Remington Bowden, Alderson; sister, Frances Canterbury Smith, Greenfield, Ind., and sister-in-law, Bonnie Kirby, Alderson; four step granddaughters and 11 step grandchildren. Special nieces and nephews, family and friends.

Dolin was a member of Old Greenbrier Baptist Church where he had served as Deacon and on several committees.

Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 19, 2013, at the Morgan Funeral Home in Lewisburg, with Dr. William Bryan and Rev. Clay O’Dell officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenbrier Memorial Gardens, Lewisburg.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Thursday.

Pallbearers will be Arnold Knapp, Tim Knapp, Gary Bragg, Jim Bowden, Joseph Bryan and Charlie Coleman.

The family wants to thank the staff at Greenbrier Manor for their excellent care they provided to Dolin in his last days.

Dennis Wayne Moorefield

Dennis Wayne Moorefield, age 61, of Daniels, passed away at his home on Monday, December 16, 2013.

Born on October 10, 1952, in Beckley, he was the son of Donnie Moorefield of Beckley and the late Gena Lee McCommack-Moorefield.

He was the beloved husband and soul-mate of Gail Moorefield of Daniels. He was the perfect father to son Shawn Moorefield and wife April Moorefield of Cool Ridge, a daughter Sunshine Moorefield and husband Jay Stover of Shady Spring and another daughter Autumn Moorefield of Columbus Ohio. He was devoted to his grandaughters Victoria, Savannaha, Gabriella and Lillyn. He was favorite brother to favorite sister Marietta Ellingwood and husband Mark of Raleigh N.C. He doted on his only niece Chandler Lee Haley her fiance Ronnie Norman and his nephew Garrett Rock wife Kristina also of Raleigh N.C.

Dad was an avid NASCAR fan and was at his happiest when all the family was together. He was also an animal lover and leaves his precious dogs and cats behind. Dad never had a cross word with anyone. He was loved by all that knew him constantly clowning around and laughing. He loved life and always had an encouraging word, a positive attitude and a smile. He always said he wasn’t afraid of death that he was looking forward to seeing his  late mother Gena Lee Moorefield, late brother Robert Dean Moorefield and late sister Sheila Via in heaven. He always said he wanted to be remembered with smiles and laughter for that is the way he would remember us and that if we could only remember him with tears then don’t remember him at all. It is for this reason that this service will be a celebration of his life.

Dad was a graduate of Shady Spring High School where he served as president of the FFA. He was a cross country truck driver for 40 years but never missed a single Christmas.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home Shady Spring Chapel on Friday, December 20, 2013, at 2 p.m. with Pastor Rodney Allen officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Prosperity.

Friends may visit with the family from 6 to 9 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Kerry Link of Beaver, J.D. Hicks of Beaver, Jason Hicks of Beaver, son-in-law Jay Stover of Teays Valley, and George Hunter of Shady Spring, John Link of Shady Spring. SUMMERSVILLE — Joseph Andrew Pugh, 85, of Summersville, died Monday, December 16, 2013.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, December 19, 2013, in the St. Johns Catholic Church of Summersville, with Father Xavier Cooney officiating. Interment will follow in the Walker Memorial Park at Summersville.

Clarice Elaine Short

Clarice Elaine Short, 82, of Beckley, went to be with the Lord on Monday, December 16, 2013.

Born June 17, 1931, in Hitchins, Ky., Clarice was the daughter of William Russell and Hazel Fraley Qualls.

She was preceded in death by her children Drema and Billy.

She is survived by her husband Billy Short Sr. and a special sister-in-law Elizabeth. Also surviving are her children Mary Canaday and companion Ed Tigert of Beckley, Victor Short and wife Elizabeth Harvey of Beckley and Jacqueline Short of Salisbury, N.C. Clarice also has many grandchildren surviving her. They are Thomas Norris and wife Stephanie, Kristen Norris and fiancé Chris, Rhonda Kirby, Holly Short, Antonio Rivera and wife Denise, Daniel Canaday, Sarah Canaday, Nona Short, Victoria Short, Amy Short, Phillip Short and wife Dane, and six great grandchildren.

Clarice was a homemaker and caretaker for her husband of 62 years and their children. She was a member of Pack’s Branch Baptist Church. Clarice had a strong faith and love for her Saviour, Jesus Christ. She looked forward to attending church when she could. One of her favorite verses in the King James Bible was John 3:16. She had a best friend, Margaret Janney of Pax, who would always stay in touch with Clarice. Margaret was a great comfort to her when Clarice’s beloved pet “Taco” passed away.

Funeral services will be Thursday, December 19, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Blue Ridge Funeral Home in Beckley with Pastor Sam Vance officiating.

Members of her church family will be pallbearers.

Family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, December 18, 2013, at the funeral home.
