Raymond Bailey
CYCLONE — Raymond Bailey, 73, departed this life Friday, Nov. 6, 2009, in Logan Regional Medical Center following a sudden illness.
Arrangements are incomplete. Services entrusted to Adam Toler Memorial Funeral Home, Oceana.
Lora Ellen Baldwin
Lora E. Baldwin, age 74, of Beckley, West Virginia, died Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009, in Raleigh General Hospital following a long illness.
Born Sept. 5, 1935, at Harlen County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Oakley and Beulah Mullins Beverley. Lora devoted her entire life to her children, husband, and as a full-time homemaker.
She loved the Lord and always praised him with song and had joy-filled heart. She was known to be a social butterfly “on-wheels” being wheelchair-bound for years. She touched the hearts of many, especially all who knew her. Special thanks to the business owners and workers at Crossroads Mall and the gentleman at the piano store that would take the time to sing gospel songs with her and all the other employees who visited with her several times a week. Thanks for caring and loving our sweet mother. Another special thanks to all the nurses at Greystone Manor for the loving care they provided and to the “mall-walker” John, who would always open the door for her when she entered the mall.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Colleen Worley, whom she loved dearly. Survivors include her husband with whom she had a 58-year marriage and a 70-year love affair, Howard Baldwin Jr.
Daughters, Cindy, Carman, Rachel, Sons Oakley Dean, John, Rodney. Brothers, Richard and his wife Eunice Beverley, Johnny Beverley and his wife.
Grandchildren, Carla, Ellen, Paulette, Amanda, Roy, Joe, Heather, Darrell, Jason, Craig, Adam, Skylar, Andrew, Courtney, Zachary, who all live as close as Beckley and as far as Texas.
She had a multitude of great-great-grandchildren whom she all loved dearly.
Now she is free to walk, run, and praise the Lord with song. Fly, Fly Away, Momma, and Rejoice. Your loving family, until we meet again.
Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, Nov. 9, 2009, at 11 a.m. at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley, West Virginia, with Pastor Michael Endreson officiating. Burial will follow at the Davis Cemetery at Mount Tabor, West Virginia.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Lavern Garrett Calfee
Lavern Garrett Calfee, age 86, of Beckley, West Virginia, left this earth to join his heavenly father on Friday, Nov. 6, 2009, at his home following a long illness.
Born on April 29, 1923, in Beckley, West Virginia, he was the son of the late William Frank Calfee and Tabitha Ellen Fielder Calfee.
Mr. Cal-fee attended the Mabscott Christian Baptist Church, and was retired from Fairmont Foods with 29 years of service as a truck driver. His last place of employment was with Heck’s Department Store in the Hardware department. Mr. Calfee served in the U.S. Armed Forces.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Paul, Dennis, Bernard, and Truman Calfee, and by sisters, Minnie Shrewsberry and Blanche Cox.
Mr. Calfee is survived by his wife of 59 years, Betty Lee Meadows Calfee; a daughter, Robin Waddell of Beckley, West Virginia; a granddaughter, Tracy Mitchell of Beckley, West Virginia; two great-granddaughters, Krista Green and Kendra Mitchell of Beckley, West Virginia. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Mr. Calfee was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, Nov. 9, 2009, at 2 p.m. at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley, West Virginia, with Pastor Doug Holley and Pastor Harmon Davis. Burial will follow at the Calfee Cemetery at Mt. Tabor, West Virginia.
Friends may call one hour prior to the services on Monday.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Samuel ‘Sammy’ Giles Clay
Samuel “Sammy” Giles Clay, 69, of Amigo, W.Va., passed away Friday, Nov. 6, 2009.
Born Nov. 9, 1939, he is the son of the late Sydney Frank Clay and Georgie Chaffin Clay.
Sammy enjoyed shooting pool, weight lifting, playing the guitar, fishing and bowling.
He attended the Amigo Missionary Baptist Church for several years.
In addition to his parents, Sammy is preceded in death by his son Stephen Clay; brothers Doug Clay and Marvin Clay; and sisters Delores Lambert and Joyce Blackwell.
Those left to cherish his memory include his daughter Cheryl Ann Clay of Allen Junction, W.Va.; son Samuel Frank Clay of Thomasville, N.C.; grandsons Edward Lee Reedy Jr. of Beckley, W.Va., and William Shane Reedy of Allen Junction, W.Va.; brother James Edward Clay of Beckley, W.Va.; sisters Carol Sue Price of Woodbridge, Va., and Barbara Ann McKinney of Wyoming Continuous Care, New Richmond, W.Va.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.

GLEN ROGERS — Harry D. Clitis, 43, departed this life Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009.
A celebration of Harry’s life will be 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 9, at Pinegrove Missionary Baptist Church at Ravencliff. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until time of service Monday at the church.

WAKEMAN, Ohio — Reba Greene, 89, of Wakeman, Ohio, formerly of Cherry Tree, W.Va., passed away Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009, at Titus-Fisher Medical Center in Norwalk, Ohio.

Eugene ‘Totsie’ Gross
Eugene “Totsie” Gross, 51, of Beckley passed away Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009, in a Beckley hospital following a massive stroke.
Born May 20, 1958, in Beckley, he was the son of the late Solomon Earl and Lena Cobb Gross.
He was a maintenance worker for McDonalds and a lifelong resident of Raleigh County. Totsie was a loving and kind person who would do anything for anyone who asked. He will be missed by his many friends and co-workers.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law, Eules “Buddy” and Shirley James Cobb.
Survivors include his brother, Larry Gross of Beckley, sister, Mary Adamos and husband Jim of Beckley, special nephews: Shawn Long of Baltimore, Md., and Jamie Long of Goldsboro, N.C., great-niece and nephews: Brooke, Zackary, Cayden, and Alexandra Long, by his special dog, Cindy, and other nephews Jeff James and David Cobb.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 9, 2009, in the Calfee Funeral Home chapel with Pastor Vondie Cook officiating.
Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to service on Monday.

FAYETTEVILLE — Stella Mae Malcomb, 102, of Rt. 2, Fayetteville, died Friday, Nov. 6, 2009, at Hill Top Health Care Center at Hilltop.
Graveside rites will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 12, at the Zoar Baptist Church Cemetery at Kesslers Cross Lanes, with the Rev. William Johnson officiating. Burial will be at Zoar Baptist Church Cemetery at Kesslers Cross Lanes. There will be no visitation.

Mary A. Oliver, 47, of Beckley, W.Va., went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009, after a sudden illness at Raleigh General Hospital.
She was born Sept. 9, 1962, the daughter of the late Bruce Wilson Wade and Gloria Mae Fowlkes.
She was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School and attended First Baptist Church of North Beckley. She was formerly employed by KFC in Beckley, W.Va.
Survivors include one son, Talmadge Hairston, Georgia; two daughters, Latasha Rene and Jasmine Chantel Oliver, both of Beckley, W.Va.; three sisters, Marie (Byrd) Hairston, Michelle Fowlkes and Jeannie Scholfield, all of Beckley, W.Va.; five brothers, James Fowlkes of Chester, Pa., Andrew and Jack Fowlkes of Winston-Salem, N.C., Mark Banks of Beckley, W.Va., and Paul Banks of Glen White, W.Va.; one granddaughter, Ja’Liyah Kincannon of Beckley, W.Va.; special friend, Michael Duncan of Beckley, W.Va.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and relative of friends.

Helen V. Pomykata, 85, of Beckley, W.Va., died Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009, at the home of her daughter, Maryann Humphrey.
She was born March 13, 1924, at Scarbro, W.Va., to the late Mike K. and Mary Shanta Vargo.
She retired from the U.S. Bureau of Mines in Mount Hope with 24 years of service.
She was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Oak Hill.
She was preceded in death by parents; husband, John J. Pomykata; two brothers, Mike and Joe Vargo; and one sister, Anna Vasilchak.
Survivors include daughters, Maryann Humphrey (husband Boyd, Jr.) of Beckley and Elizabeth Tankersley Foley (husband Larry) of Beckley; four grandsons, Daniel J. Humphrey, Neil J. Humphrey, Steven Tankersley and Adam P. Tankersley and wife Amanda; and one great-grandchild, Isabel Tankersley.
Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 9, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Oak Hill with Father Paul Yuenger officiating. Burial will be at High Lawn Memorial Park in Oak Hill.
There will be no visitation.
Donations of sympathy may be made to Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Oak Hill.
Pallbearers will be family.

Jennifer Michelle Hanna King Sims
BELLBURN — Jennifer Michelle Hanna King Sims, 20, of Bellburn, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009, following a sudden illness.
Born Oct. 3, 1989, in Fairlea, she was the daughter of Deanna Lynn Johnson Sims and Scott Sims.
She worked as a clerk for Wal-Mart and was a member of the Orient Hill Freewill Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Sims, her grandfather, Allen Johnson, and an aunt, Jane Johnson.
Survivors include her husband, Jackie King of Bellburn; mother, Deanna Sims of Quinwood; father, Scott Sims, and stepmother, Sam Sims of Lewisburg; three daughters, Tasha Sims, Mystery King and Jacklynn King, all of Bellburn; a stepson, Luke King of Bellburn; four sisters, Laura Watson of Bellburn, Patty Hornsby of Bellburn, Mia Sims of Lewisburg, and Raven Morton of Lenore; three brothers, Matthew Bennett of Rainelle, Ryan Hanna of Quinwood and Scotty Sims of Lewisburg; stepbrothers and stepsisters, Danny, Jessie, Lisha and Tyler; grandparents, Connie and Joe Sims of Clintonville and Elizabeth and Thomas Barnett of Quinwood; one niece and five nephews.
She was loved and will be greatly missed by extended family and friends.
Services will be 8 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 9, 2009, at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in Rainelle with Pastor Mike Kees officiating.
Visitation will be two hours prior to the service from 6 until 8 p.m.
