WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS — Theodore John Baldwin, 78, of White Sulphur Springs, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. today, Nov. 6, in the chapel of Shanklin Funeral Home with the Rev. Lewis Brooks officiating. Burial will follow in Greenbrier Memorial Gardens in Lewisburg. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Louise Margaret Farley Collins
CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. — Louise Margaret Farley Collins, 82, of Christiansburg, Va., formerly of Hinton, died 3:58 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2009, at Cleveland, Ohio, following a short illness.
Born Nov. 26, 1926, at True, she was a daughter of the late Olen and Loxie Adkins Farley.
Louise had formerly worked as a presser in the sewing industry in Radford, Va., as well as a home health care provider for the elderly.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Collins; one son, Kelly Martin; two grandchildren, Karen Anderson and Barry Lilly; and a friend, Roy Thompson.
Those left to cherish her memory are her four children: Glenna Anderson and husband Edward of Christiansburg, Va., Helen Lilly of Riner, Va., Sharon Petery and friend Joe of Cleveland, Ohio, and Ernie Dale Farley of Cleveland, Ohio; two brothers, Kenneth Farley of Florida and James Farley of Christiansburg, Va.; 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009, at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel, with Rev. Ray Martin officiating. Burial will follow in the Lilly-Crews Cemetery at Nimitz.
Friends may call at the funeral parlors from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Friday.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

BIRCH RIVER — Goldie Pearl Facemire, 92, of Birch River, died Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009, in the Braxton County Memorial Hospital.

Colton Wyatt Flanagan
Colton Wyatt Flanagan, infant son of Phillip and Rebecca Morris Flanagan, was stillborn Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009.
Graveside funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, in the Woodall Family Cemetery on Robinwood Road, near Tioga, with Rev. James Meadows officiating. Interment will follow under the direction of the White Funeral Home at Craigsville.
Laura King Fleming
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Laura Viola King Fleming, 25, formerly of Ravencliff, went home to become one of God’s Angels on Monday, Nov. 2, 2009, in Columbus.
Born on Oct. 9, 1984, in Beckley, she was the daughter of Madeline Atkins King of Arnett and the late Jarrell Lee King.
Laura was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Donald E. and Lava Eudora Moore Atkins, and her paternal grandparents, George and Laura B. Polk King.
Survivors left to cherish her memory, in addition to her mother, include her husband Bruce Fleming of Columbus; three sons: Jonathon, Jacob and Elijah, all at home; a brother, Gerald L. Rowe and his companion Jennifer Massey of Columbus; two sisters: Lava Bailey and her companion Jeff Massey of Arnett and LeAnn Sizemore and her companion David Kennedy of North Sandbranch Road, Beckley; a very special cousin and friend, Kristina Brooks of Ravencliff; nieces and nephews: Kayla, Caleb, Kaitlin, Hope, Derek, Lily, Kyla, Tanner, Rebekah, Elijah and Isabella. She is also survived by a host of friends.
A celebration of Laura’s life will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, in the Melton Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Ernest Francis officiating. Burial will follow in the Polk Mountain Family Cemetery in Ravencliff.
Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. today, Friday, at the funeral home.

Linda Kay (Yoney) Fox
ORIENT HILL — Linda Kay (Yoney) Fox, 58, of Orient Hill, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2009, at home following a sudden illness.
Born Sept. 2, 1951, at Quinwood, W.Va., she was the daughter of Violetta Bell Pittsenbarger Yoney and the late Tomy Yoney.
She was a homemaker and worked as a seamstress at Rupert. She was a member of the Grassy Meadow Gospel Lighthouse.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Michael Staley.
Survivors include her husband, Gary L. Fox of Orient Hill; mother, Violetta Yoney of Orient Hill; daughter, Sabrina Griffin and husband, Stephen, of Dallas, Ga.; two sons, Jonathan Yoney and wife, Nikki, of Smoot, and Matthew Sevastos of Atlanta, Ga.; two foster daughters, Melanie Bryant and husband, Lee, of Jonesborough, Ga., and Tammy Mulkey and husband, Darren, of Rome, Ga.; two sisters, Anna Clere and husband, James, of Orient Hill and Debra Dotson and husband, Gary, of Smoot; one brother, Thomas Yoney of Gresham, Ore.; and 11 grandchildren, Tony, Stefan, Austin and Tesa Yoney, Kaleb and Jesse Bryant, Timmothy Sevastos, Amberley, Seth, and Mayson Griffin, Philip Mulkey, and two great-grandsons, Leleand Staley and Emmit Blaine Sevastos.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009, at the Grassy Meadows Gospel Lighthouse Church with Pastor William “Butch” LeGrand officiating. Burial will follow at the Wallace Memorial Cemetery in Clintonville.

Dr. Eduardo L. Jimenez
The Jimenez family announces with deep sorrow the passing of Dr. Eduardo L. Jimenez, M.D., Oct. 19, 2009, in the capital city of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
He was born July 11, 1927, the second of nine children to Prospero Nova and Maria Jimenez Nova of Tamayo, Dominican Republic. He was the first teacher of the small agricultural community of Tamayo. He was the first medical doctor of the region.
Dr. Jimenez was a graduate of the Universidad Autonoma de Santo Domingo School of Medicine, class of 1958. He received his medical training at the University of Miami, Miami, Florida, Mount Vernon Hospital, New York City, and Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital. He practiced medicine in the old Hinton Hospital, Summers County Hospital, Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital and Weston State Hospital, along with his private practice in Hinton. He was the last of his contemporaries who faithfully and ethically served the people of Hinton. He did so for over two decades.
He is survived by Silvia Jimenez, his three sons, Eduardo J. Jimenez, M.D., and wife Ann Jimenez, R.N., of Nimitz, Eduardo A. Jimenez, C.E., and wife Orly Jimenez of Barahona, Dom. Rep., and Eduardo L. Jimenez, M.D., of Santiago, Dom. Rep., as well as five grandchildren, Sofia, Isabella, Quinne, Eduardo and Silvia.
He retired in 1991 to take on a new challenge: tending to his plantation and, of course, his grandchildren.
He would want us to convey for him the deep appreciation he always felt for his former colleagues and their families and especially his patients.
His body rests in the capital city of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
Betty Jean Mann
Betty Jean Anderson Mann, age 75, of Beckley, finished her race on earth, crossing over Chilly Jordon to the finish line at Heaven’s Gate on Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2009, where she was met by her loving Savior, and cheered on by loved ones gone on before.
Born on March 28, 1934, in Beaver, she was the daughter of the late Jessie and Janet McGuire Anderson. She was the granddaughter of the late Sam and Reevie Anderson and William and Elizabeth McGuire.
Mrs. Mann was retired from the Raleigh County Courthouse, in the personal property division of the Raleigh County Assessor’s Office with 31 years of service. Mrs. Mann was active in the Raleigh County Democratic Party, and the Raleigh County Democratic Women’s Association. She was a member of the Grace Chapel Church on Dry Hill Road, where she served as a secretary to the church.
Mrs. Mann was very active in the Beckley community, and served on various planning boards in Beckley and Raleigh County. She was devoted to serving others in our area during their time of need. She touched many lives in our area, and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, B. Earl Mann, by a son, Frederick Earl Mann, and by a brother, Howard W. Anderson.
Left to cherish her memory include her brother, Glenn Anderson and wife Jan of Beaver; her daughter, Robin Cook and her husband Evangelist David Cook of Naoma; her son, Randy Mann and wife Tammy Mann of Beckley; grandchildren: Jeannie and her husband Eric Garretson; Tina and her husband Timmy Dickens; Robbie Mann; Chessie Mann; Jessica Mann; Adam Bailes and family; and Nick and Ashley Bailes; great-grandchildren: Courtney and Emily Garretson; Nevaeh Dickens, and Luke Mann.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley, on Friday, Nov. 6, 2009, at 8 p.m. with Rev. Robert Barley officiating. Graveside rites and Committal Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009, at Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum. Burial will immediately follow at the cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 5 p.m. until service time today.
Pallbearers will be John Daniels, Eric Garretson, Timmy Dickens, Allen Harper, Jesse Daniels, and Mark Anderson.

Maxine B. Miller
BRENTON — Maxine B. Miller, 69, of Brenton, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2009, in a Beckley hospital following a short illness.
Born Feb. 9, 1940, at Coal Mountain, she was the daughter of the late Dewey and Zetta Chambers.
Maxine devoted her life to being a full-time homemaker for her family, always being a caring mother and wife. She loved the Lord and was an active member of the Church of God in her younger years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a special grandson, Dewey Mann, whom she loved dearly. Several of Maxine’s brothers and sisters have also departed before her.
Survivors include her husband of 39 years, Lee Miller; daughter, Lori Lester and her husband, John, of Lincolnton, N.C.; daughter, Zetta Dorane Weaver and her husband, Roger, of Marietta, Ohio; stepson, Malcomb Miller and his wife, JoAnn, of Lincolnton, N.C.; and five grandchildren who brought great joy to her life, Brittany Lester, Lorissa Lester, Baruch Lester, Kristen Miller and Katlyn Miller, all of Lincolnton, N.C.
A special thanks to Saundra Brown, her caretaker of five years, with whom she grew very close.
A celebration of Maxine’s life will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009, at Calfee Funeral Service Chapel, Pineville, with the Rev. Tommy Knotts officiating. Burial will follow in Miller Family Cemetery, Mill Creek, Brenton.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

HUNTINGTON — Herman Minton, 86, of Huntington, formerly of Wilkinson, passed away Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009, at St. Mary's Hospital in Huntington.

Mary Ann Oliver, 47, of Beckley, passed away at a Beckley hospital, following a sudden illness.

Reginald (Reggie) Rhodes
Reginald (Reggie) Rhodes, 57, of 415 Bostick Ave., Beckley, joined the Kingdom of Heaven on Nov. 4, 2009, at his residence after a one- year battle with Leukemia.
He was born in Leslie, W.Va., Feb. 16, 1952, to Mrs. Newassa Creasy Rhodes and the late Mr. Goldie F. Rhodes. He was happily married to the late Sandra Louise Rhodes and they shared a loving union for 40 years.
Reginald was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School, Marshall University and Beckley College and earned his degree in Elementary Education and Special Education. He had 34 years of service with the Raleigh County Board of Education and taught at Beaver and Daniels Elementary Schools.
He was an active member of the Heart of God Ministry Church. He worshipped the Lord as a soloist, in the Men’s Choir, and with the Shabach Praise Team. He served on the Pastor’s Board of Elders and various other church and community organizations and events.
He was a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, a two-time nominee for the Teacher of the Year, received an award for being an Outstanding Young Educator by the Jaycees, and several other awards for his commitment to community service.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sandra, on Aug. 20, 2009, and maternal grandmother, Cleo Creasy.
Those left to cherish his memory include his son, Ronald (Neika) Lawrence Sr. of Capital Heights, Md.; daughter, Angela (Troy) Roach of Laurel, Md.; mother, Newassa Rhodes of Beckley; three brothers, Freddie Rhodes of Bluefield, W.Va., Goldie Rhodes and Kermit Rhodes (Marie) of Beckley; three sisters, Vanessa Rhodes of Beckley, JoAnn Ross (Mike) of Belleville, Mich., and Marsha Brookins (Michael) of Odenton, Md.; three granddaughters, two grandsons; two aunts; two great-uncles, a great-aunt; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 8, 2009, at Heart of God Ministries, 1703 S. Kanawha St., Beckley, with Bishop Fred T. Simms officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

OCEANA — Charles Keith Roberts, 60, of Oceana, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009, in a Beckley hospital following a long illness.

Jack Dale ‘J.D.’ Spangler
Jack Dale “J.D.” Spangler, 45, of Cool Ridge, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009, at Raleigh General.
Born Nov. 30, 1963, at Beckley, he was the son of the late Basil Ray and Anna Virginia Epperly Spangler.
J.D. served in the Army and enjoyed playing golf and fishing.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his grandparents Basil Ross and Lottie Edna Smith Spangler and BB and Anna Maude Wilson Epperly.
Survivors include two sisters, Deborah Spangler Lusk and Daniel of Barnsville, Ohio, Juanita Spangler Howard of Indiana; four brothers, Albert Spangler and Jonette of Huntington, W.Va., Ross Spangler and Robin of Prosperity, Jeff Spangler and Connie of Indiana, and Thomas Spangler of Cool Ridge. Also survived by several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
Services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009, at Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley, with Jimmy Leach and Dennis Epperly officiating. Friends may call two hours prior to the service. Burial will follow at the Wildwood Cemetery in Beckley.
Pallbearers will be Robert “Witzel” Spangler, Johnny Adkins, David Black, Gary Boyd, Jerald Spangler, and Arnold Lambert Jr.

Marie L. Underwood
Marie L. Underwood, of Beckley, died peacefully Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009, after a long illness. She grew up in Indian Mills, W.Va., and had lived in Beckley for over 60 years.
She was born Oct. 6, 1918, in Hinton, and was the daughter of Charles L. Lowe and Bessie Mann Lowe, who preceded her in death.
Marie was a homemaker and served as an in-home caregiver for numerous people for several years. She was known for her great “from scratch” cooking, baking, and canning and fed many grateful family members and friends over the years. Marie was determined to live her life her way and remained in her home until a few weeks before her death.
In addition to her parents, Marie was preceded in death by a sister, Sara J. Meadows; brother, Charles L. Lowe Jr.; and a grandson, Jerry Dean Underwood.
She is survived by two sons, Jerry Underwood of Marietta, Ga., and Joey Underwood of Saint Simons Island, Ga.; a daughter, Janet Aurentz of Yorktown, Va.; a sister, Nancy Dillon of Peterstown; a sister-in-law, Tommy Lowe of Richmond, Va.; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; four nieces; a nephew; and numerous friends who helped care for and love her.
She will be missed by all who knew and loved her, but all are happy that she is at peace.
A memorial service for Marie will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, at the First Baptist Church, 422 Neville St., in Beckley with Dr. Phil Smith officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Gathering of Mountain Eagles, a charity devoted to assisting wounded soldiers from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, located at 119 Elm Lake Way, Yorktown, VA 23693. More information about the organization is available at www.mountaineagles.org.
