Margie Pauline Carter
Margie Pauline Carter, 87, of Shady Spring, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2009.
Born March 11, 1923, in Summers County, she was the daughter of the late Charles Lewis Pack Sr. and the late Grace May Harvey Pack.
Margie loved traveling, spending time with children, going to gospel sings, and volunteering at the Veterans Hospital for many years.
She was the former owner and operator of Carter Grocery Store at MacArthur and worked in Health Services at Pinecrest Hospital; she was of the Baptist faith and attended Memorial Baptist Church of Beckley.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kyle William Carter; seven brothers; four sisters; and a stepdaughter, Peggy Carter Painter.
Those left to cherish her memory include her brother, Curtis Pack and wife, Ruth, of Lancaster, Ohio; niece, Bonnie White of Shady Spring, with whom she lived for the last seven years; special niece, Sandra Wood of Grandview; numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Services will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, 2009, at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, 5251 Robert C. Byrd Drive, Beckley. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley.
Friends may gather with the family from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Friday, at the funeral home.
Flowers will be accepted; however, you may donate to your favorite charity in her honor.

Charles Edward Dixon
SCARBRO — Charles Edward Dixon, 53, of Scarbro, W.Va., died on Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2009, from injuries received on the job site at Newtown Energy’s Eagle Mine in Comfort, W.Va.
Born Jan. 12, 1956, at Oak Hill, he was the son of the late Theodore O. “Teed” and Margaret C. Bozo Dixon.
He was a trackman for Newtown Energy.
Charles was a member of the Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Oak Hill. He was a graduate of Collins High School and was a U.S. Army veteran.
Survivors include two brothers, Ted Dixon of Oak Hill and William Dixon and wife, Barbara, of Oak Hill; three sisters, Mary Margaret Tincher of Scarbro, Coletta Vandall and husband, Marvin, of Scarbro and Regina O’Neal and husband, William, of Glen Jean; nine nieces and nephews and eight great-nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, 2009, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Oyler Avenue and Elmore Street, Oak Hill, with Father Paul Yuenger officiating. Burial will be at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill, with military graveside rites by Oak Hill VFW Post #3110. Friends may call two hours prior to the service on Saturday at the church.
Ted Dixon, William “Bo” Dixon, Bill O’Neal, Marvin Vandall, Daniel Tincher Sr., Jerry Lilly, Jamie Roop, Roy Tucker and Matthew Dixon will serve as pallbearers.

Virginia Rose Fitzwater
FAYETTEVILLE — Virginia Rose Dent Fitzwater, 73, of Fayetteville, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2009, at CAMC Memorial Division, Charleston.
Born on May 29, 1936, at Carbondale, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin Franklin and Barbara Ann Pritt Dent.
Mrs. Fitzwater was a 42-year member of the First Church of God, Fayetteville. She was a retired LPN nurse at Appalachian Regional Hospital.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Charlotte Pinson, Mary Arthur, and Barbara Dent; and six brothers, Oather Dent, Neal Dent, George Dent, Fredrick Dent, Benjamin Dent, and Lee Pritt.
Left to cherish her memories are her husband, Oscar Fitzwater of Fayetteville; three children, William Ray Fitzwater and his wife, Dorinda Joyce Fitzwater of Oak Hill, Debra Frye and husband, Raymond Lewis Frye Jr. of Fayetteville, and John Fitzwater and wife, Lori Lynn Fitzwater of Oak Hill; one sister, Reva Hobbs and her husband, Harold Hobbs of Smithers, and their children, Linda Lou Huffer and husband, Ray Huffer, and Eddie Hobbs and family, James Alfred Hobb and family; seven grandchildren, William Ray Fitzwater Jr., Christopher Michael Fitzwater, Jessica Elaine Fitzwater, Amber Dawn Frye, Ashley Michele Fitzwater, Britney Nocole Fitzwater, and Cassidy Dawn Fitzwater; and two great-grandchildren, Madison Rayne Fitzwater and Dakota Fitzwater.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 1, 2009, at the Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home Chapel, Fayetteville, with Layman Michael Parsons and Pastor Russell Hays officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral services on Sunday.

WESTFIELD, N.C. — David Ray Hearns, 41, of Westfield, formerly of Lynco, passed away Monday, Oct. 26, 2009, from injuries sustained in an auto accident.

LEWISBURG — Edgar Huffman, 87, died Oct. 27, 2009.

John Earl Richardson
John Earl Richardson, 92, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2009, with his beloved wife of 70 years, Mable, by his side, in the home.
He was born at Lowell, W.Va., to the late John and Edna Richardson.
John has five children, John Richardson of the home, Judith Hopkins of Charleston, Barbara Arnold and husband Fred of Shady Spring, Gary Richardson of Phoenix, Ariz., and Larry Richardson of Pocahontas, Va.; one sister, Beulah Phillips of Shady Spring; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
A private service will held for the immediate family at 11 a.m. today, Friday, Oct. 30, 2009, at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley, with Rev. Larry Dial officiating. Entombment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.

Greta Jean Vines
Greta Jean Vines, age 79, of Beckley, died Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2009, at the Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley, following a long illness.
Born on May 16, 1930, at Beckley, she was the daughter of the late John Beaver and Edith Martin Beaver.
Mrs. Vines was a homemaker, and years ago was an employee of Beaver’s Grocery, and was a part-time employee of the East Beckley Post Office. She enjoyed planting a floral garden at the post office for several years.
Mrs. Vines was a member of the St. Mary’s United Methodist Church in Beckley for many years, where she was a member of the Women’s Circle at the church. She was also a member of the Senior Friends in Beckley. She had made her home in Beckley all of her life.
Mrs. Vines was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Vines; two sisters, Carolyn O’dell and Sarah Vealey.
Surviving are her children, Debbie Gunnoe and husband Bernard of Prosperity, Terry Shutko and wife Sandra Fox of Pittsburgh, Pa., Phillip Williams and wife Cindy of Navarre, Fla.; a sister, Becky Mills and husband Doug of Beckley; a brother, John Beaver and wife Jane of Shady Spring; six grandchildren, Scott Gunnoe of Prosperity, Terry Gunnoe and his wife Christina of Bragg, Emma Shutko of Pittsburgh, Brandi Meadows of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., Sommer Daniels and her husband Chris of San Antonio, Texas, and Tyler Williams of Navarre, Fla.; five great-grandchildren, Brooke Miller, Trey Gunnoe, Seth Gunnoe, Aeriana Gunnoe, Cole Daniels; and a special friend who was like a daughter, Donna McCray of Prosperity.
Funeral services will be 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, 2009, at the St. Mary’s United Methodist Church, 2012 S. Kanawha St., Beckley, with Rev. Sharon Miller officiating. Entombment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Beckley.
Friends may call one hour prior to services at the church.
Family members will serve as pallbearers.

Sankie Wright Jr.
Sankie Wright Jr., 78, of Bolt, passed away Oct. 28, 2009, at Bowers Hospice House.
Born April 13, 1931 he is the son the late Sanders and Lina Wright.
Sankie was an avid hunter and enjoyed spending his time at the Bolt Station. He retired from Eastern Associated Coal Company and was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his parents, Sankie is preceded in death by his son Sankie Wright III and several brothers and sisters.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Barbara Smith Wright of Bolt; sons, Larry Wright and wife Lucille of Bolt, Jackie Wright and wife Darlene of Bolt; daughter, Kathy Toney and husband Andrew of Beckley; brother, Willard Wright and wife Loretta of Beckley; grandchildren, Larry Wright Jr. and wife Jill, Robyn Miller and husband James, Heath Wright and wife Kelly, Melissa Prichard and husband Caleb, Adam Wright, Jason Tolliver, Jessica Dunbar and husband Charles, Alicia Trump and husband Wesley, Michelle Radford, Brandon Boucher and wife Sarah, Justin Boucher and wife Myra; great-grandchildren Austin, Luke, Hunter, Shailyn, Cruize, Ian, Karsey, Natalee, Mylee, Ashlin, Kaeli, Haley, Sebastian, Audree Issabella and Alexis.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, 2009 at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley with Pastor Elwood Brooks and the Rev. Abner Wright. Entombment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.
Friends may gather with the family today from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
