Michale Edward Amick
Michale Edward Amick, 44, of Summersville, W.Va., died Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2008.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2008, in the White Funeral Home at Summersville. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday one hour prior to the services.
White Funeral Home at Summersville is in charge of arrangements.
Blanche Woods Ashworth
Blanche Woods Ashworth, of 206 Elkins St., Beckley, passed away Friday, Oct. 10, 2008, at Raleigh General Hospital.
She was the young-est of 10 children born to Andrew Byron and Sara Elizabeth Acord Clay of Beckley. She lived her entire and very full life in Raleigh Country and had been the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Mrs. Ashworth attended Woodrow Wilson High School, Marshall University, and Beckley College.
She was the first woman to be elected to the Board of Trustees of Mountain State University in 1976. She later was named a Trustee Emeritus and a Life Trustee at the school. She and her husband, Jay W. Woods, owned State Adjustment Service and Medical-Dental-Hospital Bureau of Beckley, a business which operated successfully from offices in the former Raleigh County Bank for 59 years. After Jay’s death, she continued to manage the company for 23 years.
She was a member of Alpha Zeta Delta sorority. Blanche was a member of the Woman’s Club of Beckley and the Beckley-Raleigh County Chamber of Commerce. She was a member of the Beckley Art Group and held various responsible positions with the First United Methodist Church, including President of the Woman’s Society of Christian Service. She had been a member of the Black Knight Country Club and the Flat Top Lake Association.
Blanche especially cherished her “little bridge and birthday groups,” as she affectionately termed them. These groups consisted of some of her very dear friends.
Her second husband, Robert J. Ashworth, preceded her in death, passing away on Oct. 2, 2008.
She is survived by a son, Barry C. Woods and his wife, Constance, of Flat Top Lake; two stepdaughters, Nancy Sanderbeck and her husband, Jack, of Concord, N.C., and Joan Ashworth of Beckley; a grandson, Dr. Hunter K. Woods and his wife, Tanja, of Wytheville, Va.; and three nieces. She is also survived by a very caring associate, Nadene Stover.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2008, at Calfee Funeral Home, 800 Oakwood Ave., Beckley, W.Va., with Dr. Robert Stoddard officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park.
Friends may call one hour prior to service on Tuesday.
Pallbearers will be Dr. Robert Harris, Judge J.L. Kirkpatrick, Ronald Lear, Kenneth Litton, Rivers Varn, and James Vaughan. Honorary pallbearer will be Gov. Hulett C. Smith, who served as best man at Blanche’s wedding to Robert J. Ashworth 20 years ago.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 217 S. Heber St., Beckley, WV 25801, and to the Woods Family Endowment Fund at the Beckley Area Foundation, 129 Main St., Suite 203, Beckley, WV 25801.

Billy Carl Capaldo
Billy Carl “Haney” Capaldo, 67, of Zenith, passed away Saturday, Oct. 11, 2008, at his home, following a long battle with lung cancer.
Bill was born on Jan. 23, 1941, in Anjean, W.Va., a son of the late Frederico and Flora Capaldo.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Joshua Hartley; four brothers, Dutch, Tony, Pete, and Frank Capaldo; and two sisters, Mary Capaldo Peters and Mary Briggs.
Bill was a jack-of-all-trades but spent the majority of his life employed as a carpenter. He will be best remembered and most missed for his ability to make others laugh. He was always quick with a smile or a joke and could tell a story like nobody else. He was a good friend to many and his life served as an example of love, friendship, and second chances.
Bill is survived by his devoted wife, Lois Cole Capaldo; three sons, Bill “BJ” Capaldo Jr., Greg Capaldo, and Billy O. Capaldo of Zenith/Gap Mills; two daughters, Tammy Capaldo Will-iams and husband, Steve, of Tallahassee, Fla., and Mc-Kenzie Capaldo Whatley and husband, Jay, of San Antonio, Texas; six grandchildren, Katie, Amanda, Carson, Ashley, Jolene, and a little Kenzie or Jay Jr. who is expected in January. He is also survived by two brothers, Steve Capaldo of Gap Mills and Basil Capaldo of Caldwell; three sisters, Mattie Highlander of Danese, Lizzie Martin of Clintonville, and Nellie Capaldo of Zenith; and many nieces and nephews who loved him.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2008, at Crimson Springs Church on Zenith Road, with the Pastor Jim Rogers officiating. Burial will follow at the Wickline Cemetery, Zenith.
Friends may call at the Groves Funeral Home in Union from 6 to 8 p.m. today.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the American Cancer Society or, if so desired, plant a fruit tree in his memory.

Alfred Foster Jr.
Alfred Foster Jr., 87, of Scarbro, W.Va., passed away at his home on Saturday, Oct. 11, 2008.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2008, at the Jones Avenue Church of God at Oak Hill. Visitation will be 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Tuesday at the church.

Cecil Raymond Jarrett
Cecil Raymond Jarrett, age 83, of Scarbro, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 11, 2008, at Hidden Valley Nursing facility, after a long illness.
Born March 8, 1925, at Milburn, W.Va., he was the son of Thearon and Mary Rose Jarrett Sr. of Paint Creek.
Cecil was a retired coal miner having worked from Imperial Colliery Coal Co. He was a member of the Mossy Living Word Church and loved to hunt, fish, and camp. He was a Seaman First Class honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy on April 6, 1948, having served in World War II.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ollie Mae Whitt Jarrett; three brothers, Theron Jarrett Jr. of Oak Hill, Lenor Jarrett Treadway of Rock Mountain, Va., and Jack Jarrett of Paint Creek.
Survivors include his three daughters, Mary E. Giles and Linda Rinehart and her husband Bob, all of Fayetteville, W.Va., and Denice Stover and her husband James of Paint Creek; his son, Bruce Jarrett and his wife Trina of Gatewood; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Phillip, Jessica, and Jared Stover of Hico, W.Va., Brandon, Kim, Eric, and Eli Stover of Scarbro, Danielle, Tommy, Alexa, and Zack Horrocks, Cheryl, Chelsie, and Jordan Horrocks all of Dixie, W.Va., Kelly, Andy, and Kayla McMillion of Scarbro, Taylor Jarrett and Tyler Jarrett of Gatewood, W.Va.; great-great-grandchildren, Andrew and Jacob McMillion; three brothers, Donnie Jarrett and wife Edith of Gatewood, Jimmy Jarrett and wife Evelyn of Paint Creek, and Benny Jarrett and wife Kathy of Illinois; and three sisters, Pauline Workman of Coal River, W.Va., Caroline Smathers and Shirley Blevins, both of Hilltop.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2008, at the Mossy Living Word Church at Mossy, W.Va., with the Rev. Paul Basham officiating. Burial will follow in Gethsemane Memorial Garden, Pea Ridge Road, Oak Hill, where graveside military services will be conducted by Oak Hill VFW Post 3110.
Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the services on Tuesday.
Pallbearers will be Phillip R. Stover, Brandon L. Stover, Tyler W. Jarrett, Andy McMillion, Tommy Horrocks, and James Stover.

Paul Douglas Jones
Paul Douglas Jones, age 64, of Kincaid, W.Va., died on Saturday, Oct. 11, 2008, at VAMC, Beckley, after a long illness.
Born Nov. 1, 1943, at Ethel, W.Va., Logan County, he was the son of the late Hillery Jones and the late Cynthia Matheny Jones Bailey.
Mr. Jones was a retired salesman and manager for Heilig-Meyers Co., Rainelle, W.Va. He was a member of the Page Baptist Church at Page and was a U.S. Air Force veteran, having served during the Vietnam Conflict.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Vernon Bailey; and a brother, Tom Jones.
Survivors include his wife, Jane Perkins Jones of Kincaid, W.Va.; a son, Eric D. Jones of Princeton, W.Va.; a daughter, Alison Burke and her husband Seth of Leslie, W.Va.; five grandchildren, Austin Jones, Ethan Jones, Zoey Jones, Madison Burke, and Lauren Burke; four brothers, Ray Jones of Fayetteville, W.Va., James Jones of Hayes, Va., Vernon Bailey of Robson, W.Va., and Hollie Bailey of Kincaid, W.Va.; and four sisters, Jeanetta Wolfe of Page, Rosetta Billings of Custer Park, Ill., Loretta Hambrick of Cross Lanes, W.Va., and Kathy Clay of Kincaid, W.Va.
Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2008, at the Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill, with Rev. Delmas Wolfe and Rev. Bill Deskins officiating.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday from the Settle Cemetery at Robson, with military rites conducted by Oak Hill VFW Post 3110.

Ermel L. Rogers
Ermel L. Rogers, 75, of Calvin, passed away Saturday, Oct. 11, 2008, at Bowers Hospice House, Beckley, following a long illness.
Born March 12, 1933, in Elliott, W.Va., he was a son of the late Charley R. Rogers and the late Georgia Orley Crist Rogers. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a sister, Imogene Hamon, and a brother, Estel Rogers.
Mr. Rogers was former store manager and meat cutter for Foodland grocery stores, a member of the Beulah Baptist Church of Muddlety, and was a Mason.
Survivors include his wife, Rosalea Young Rogers; three daughters, Beverly Miller and husband, John, of Calvin, Brenda Young of Sutton, and Barbara Vest of Mt. Nebo; a son, David Rogers and wife, Karen, of Craigsville; three stepdaughters, Connie Bragg of Oak Hill, Debbie Gilbert and husband, Gary, of Mt. Lookout, and Cindi Ritchea and husband, Jeff, of Craigs-ville; seven grandchildren, John Rogers, Jessica Wiant, Jason Miller, Clark Miller, Joseph Miller, Andrea Mac-kowiak, and Katie Vest; nine great-grandchildren, Jocee Miller, Kinley Miller, Jacey Miller, Julia Miller, Jolena Miller, Clayton Miller, Cora Mackowiak, Joseph Mackowiak, and Joshua Mackowiak; five stepgrandchildren, Somer Bragg, Brogan Gee, Jon Lake Bragg, Derek Gee, and Cye Lachey Ritchea; and a stepgreat-grandchild, Nevaeh Bragg.
Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2008, at the Richmond Chapel Church Cemetery, Ramsey, with Pastor Howard Harper officiating.
There will be no evening visitation.

Stella Laffery Russell, age 97, of Beckley, died on Saturday, Oct. 11, 2008, at SunBridge Pine Lodge.

Carol Rose Williams
Carol Rose Williams, born Oct. 9, 1938, passed away Oct. 11, 2008.
Carol was born in Skelton, W.Va., to the late Ralph S. Williams and Stella M. (Lafferty) Russell, who also passed away on Oct. 11, 2008.
She worked hard all her life and enjoyed crocheting, knitting, and cooking. She retired from Monsanto Co. (MEMC) in San Jose, Calif., after 25 years of employment. Carol was recently employed by West Virginia Association of Community Bankers in Beckley, W.Va.
Carol was preceded in death by her sister, Joan Scheetz of Florida.
She is survived by her son, Raymond R. McElroy Jr. (wife Maggie); granddaughter, Elizabeth McElroy; sister, Ann Phillips of West Virginia; brother, Bobby (Mary) Williams of West Virginia; and sister, Mary Ellen (Roy) Flueharty of Florida.
The family would like to thank the hospice team at Akron City Hospital for their compassion and kindness shown to our loved one.
