Charles Elwood Bennett
BLUEFIELD — Charles Elwood Bennett, 75, of Bluefield, formerly of Madams Creek, died Oct. 9, 2008.
Graveside service and burial will be 2 p.m. today at the Upland Cemetery.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Hilda June Lewis Fitzwater
ALDERSON — Hilda June Lewis Fitzwater, 83, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2008, at Laurel Wood Care Center in Elkton, Md.
Born July 17, 1925, at Renick, she was a daughter of the late Wade Ralston Lewis and Sarah Blankenship Lewis.
Mrs. Fitzwater was a member of the Grassy Meadows Gospel Lighthouse and was a homemaker.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Allen Fitzwater; a son, Jimmy Fitzwater; a sister, Clara Simmons; two brothers, Harold Lewis and Shelby Lewis; and three stepchildren, Merlin Fitzwater, Shirley Fitzwater and Thelma Fitzwater.
Survivors include two daughters, Dorothy Barton of Elkton, Md., and Wanda Dolbow of Elkton, Md.; three sons, David Fitzwater of Alderson, Daniel A. Fitzwater of Union and Harold F. Fitzwater of New Castle, Del.; two sisters, Hazel Shafer of Lindside, and Margie Miller of York, Pa.; a half sister, Mary Lester of Renick; 26 grandchildren; and 56 great-grandchildren.
Service will be 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 13, 2008, at Grassy Meadows Gospel Lighthouse with the Rev. Frank Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the Harrah Cemetery, Keeneys Knob.
Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 12, 2008, at the Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home, Lewisburg, and one hour prior to the service Monday at the church.

Dorothy Lee Fuller
On Oct. 7, 2008, at 6:48 p.m., the Lord called Sister Dorothy Lee “Dory” Fuller from her earthly struggle into her place of rest. Sister Dorothy was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Edward Fuller.
Sister Dorothy was born in McRobinson, Ky., on Sept. 2, 1925, but was a resident of Glen Rogers, W.Va. She attended school at Scott High School in Glen Rogers.
She was a former Food Service Representative at Number One Hospital in Welch, W.Va. Sister Dorothy met and married Mr. Moses Minnifield at a very young age. Dorothy was a member of Greater New Jerusalem Holiness Temple and was baptized in Jesus’ name and Holy Ghost filled.
She was a very shy lady and in her later years, she had a very quiet spirit. To some, she was known as “Dory” and to others she was known as “Pothy.”
She was preceded in death by three sisters, Ethel Whittaker, Catheryn Saunders and Mary Bailey; and three nephews, Edward Neno Fuller, Saul Edward Fuller Jr. and Junior Saunders.
She is survived by her last sister and caregiver, Evangelist Mary Alice Fuller of Glen Rogers; brothers, James Cyphelas Fuller of Washington, D.C., Saul Edward Fuller Sr. of Lester; nephews, William Edward Fuller of San Francisco, Calif., James Whittaker of Bronx, N.Y., Reese H. Fuller of Bowie, Md., Anthony Fuller of Glen Rogers, Cyphelas Fuller of Glen Rogers, Melvyn Fuller of Beckley, Michael Fuller of Glen Rogers; nieces, Sonya Fuller-Campbell of Mount Hope, Mabel Patricia Drafton of Lester, Sandra Gaye Fuller of Charleston, Patricia Fuller of Bronx, N.Y., Debra Fuller of Washington, D.C., Janice Fuller of Washington, D.C.; 17 great-nephews; 11 great-nieces and a host of other relatives and friends.
Service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Heart of God Ministries, 1703 S. Kanawha St., Beckley, with Bishop Fred T. Simms, Pastor Sandra Jackson and Evangelist Delores Chambers officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenwood Memorial Park, Beckley.
Friends may call 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the church.

Laura Frances Howard
NORTH LIBERTY, Iowa — Laura Frances Howard, 76, passed away Friday, Oct. 3, 2008, at Manor Care Nursing Home in Cedar Rapids, Iowa after an extended illness.
Frances was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Howard Jr.; sons, Richard Howard III and Daryl Howard; brothers, Robert Finney and Jack Finney; parents, Stephen and Lilly Finney.
Frances was born March 17, 1932, at Devils Fork, W.Va. She met and married Richard Howard Jr. in Sullivan, W.Va.
She was an avid reader who loved listening to gospel music, going to church and relaxing at home. She most of all loved her family and friends.
Her family includes her children, Joann Johnson of Coralville, Iowa, Anthony Howard (Linda) of Clinton, Md., Diane Lewis of Charleston, W.Va., Patricia Lowe of North Liberty, Iowa and Cordelia Howard of Indianapolis, Ind.; loving sister, Nancy Jean Davis of Gary, Ind.; brothers, George Reynolds (Debbie) of Cocoa, Fla. and Irving Finney of Beckley, W.Va., as well as a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family and friends who will miss her dearly.
Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday with a viewing one hour prior to the service at the Durgan Funeral Chapel, 1501 South Kanawha St., Beckley, with Pastor Earl Jackson officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.
Final arrangements were entrusted to Durgan Funeral Service, Beckley.

BUD MOUNTAIN — Henry William Hylton, 76, of Bud Mountain, died Wednesday, October 8, 2008 in a Beckley hospital following a short illness.
Service will be 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 12, 2008, at Guyandotte Baptist Church, Herndon Heights. Friends may call one hour prior to service at the church.

Melvin C. King
LINDSIDE — Melvin C. King, 87, of Lindside, passed away at his home Thursday, Oct. 9, 2008, following a short illness.
Graveside rites will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Peterstown Cemetery with the Rev. John Offenburger officiating. At Mel’s request there will be no visitation.

Patsy Lowe, 78, of Beckley, died Thursday, Oct. 9, 2008, at the Raleigh General Hospital following a long illness.

Mae L. Mudd
Mae L. Mudd, 92, of Beckley, died Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2008, at the Hidden Valley Health Care Center following a long illness.
Born on May 2, 1916, at Cabin Creek, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late James Hubbard and Loretta Selbe Hubbard.
She was a retired factory worker from a glass factory in Owens, Ill.
Mrs. Mudd was of the Baptist faith.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Mudd; a son, Jerry Wayne Mudd; a grandson, John Monroe Mudd; and a sister, Viola Halstead.
Surviving are several nieces and nephews, including nieces, Rita Pettry of Beckley, with whom she made her home, and Judy Johnson and husband, Dean, of Mount Hope; and a nephew, Michael Halstead and wife, Janet, of Beckley.
Graveside rites and burial will be 11 a.m. today at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Prosperity with the Rev. Joe Cuthbertson officiating.
There will be no visitation.

Ruth Skaggs
WEST BRANCH, Iowa — Ruth Skaggs, 95, of West Branch, formerly of Russellville, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2008, following a long illness.
Ruth was born Oct. 23, 1912, in Russellville, W.Va., a daughter of the late James C. and Uriah Mitchell Campbell.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Lewis Skaggs, in 1986; two sisters, Verna White and Evelyn Haynes; and five brothers, Eugene, Lindsey, Fletcher, Leo and Jason Campbell.
She was of the Baptist faith, a retired housekeeper for a nursing home and a homemaker.
Survivors are two daughters, Doris Bennett of Statesville, N.C., and Janice Bailey-Fitzgerald of West Branch, Iowa; one son, Delbert Skaggs of Shrewsbury; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday in the Chapel of Rest Mausoleum, at Victor. Howard Campbell will be officiating. Burial will follow in Restlawn Memory Gardens in Victor.
Friends may call at the mausoleum one hour prior to the service.

Rev. Carl Murl ‘Tommy’ Wingo
The Rev. Carl Murl “Tommy” Wingo, 83, of Glen Daniel, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2008, at CAMC Memorial Hospital in Charleston.
He was born on Aug. 7, 1925, a son of the late John Wingo and Cora Bell Stover Wingo.
He preached for 50 years and was the Pastor of Dorothy Church of God for 31 years. He attended Glen Daniel Worship Center.
Besides his parents, preceding Tommy in death was his son, Eugene Win-go; four sisters, Marie Markham, Mary Ellen Woodrum, Lillian Stanley and Thelma Arthur; two brothers, Guinea and Mitchell Wingo; a stepbrother, Vernon Wingo; a granddaughter, Regina Raynes; and a great-grandchild, Noah Brown.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Marie Hatfield Wingo, whom he married on Feb. 28, 1946; two daughters, Linda Brown and her husband, Bob, of Dorothy, and Brenda Raynes and her husband, Eugene, of Glen Daniel; a daughter-in-law, Virginia Wingo; three sisters, Charlotte Thompson of Logan, Loretta Holsten and Elvis Stover, both of Beckley; grandchildren, Robbie and Connie Brown, Debbie and Craig Lowe, Ricky and Barbara Brown, Donetta and Earl Roles, Tommy and Jodi Wingo and Eugene Raynes Jr.; 19 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter.
Service will be noon Saturday at the Glen Daniel Worship Center, Glen Daniel, with the Rev. Robbie Brown, Debbie Lowe and Tommy Wingo and the Rev. Jerry Cantley officiating. Burial will follow in the Pineview Cemetery at Orgas.
Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. today at the church.
