Ernest F. ‘Sonny’ Cameron Sr.

Ernest F. “Sonny” Cameron Sr., age 73, of 13604 West Calla Road, Salem, Ohio, died at 3:05 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 5, 2008, at the Salem Community Hospital.

He was born on May 19, 1935, in Ansted, W.Va., and was the son of Josephine (Pridemore) Cameron and the late Deward Ernest Cameron.

Sonny worked for General Motors in Lordstown as a millwright for 24 years and retired in 1995. He was Baptist by faith, a member of the Western Star Lodge No. 21 of the Free and Accepted Masons in Youngstown, Ohio, and a life member of the North American Hunters Association. Sonny was an avid hunter and fisherman. He served in the U.S. Army.

His wife, Rose Marie (Hatcher) Cameron, whom he married March 8, 1956, preceded him in death on March 10, 2008. Besides his father, he was also preceded in death by two brothers, Bobby Lee and Ray Cameron.

Survivors include a son, Ernest (Kim) Cameron Jr. of Berlin Center, Ohio; a daughter, Renee (Bill) Helmick of Salem, Ohio; four sisters, Joan (Teddy) Hatcher, Judy (Bob) Bohn, Diane Champion, and Vicky Cameron, all of Ansted, W.Va.; three brothers, Russell (Kay) Cameron, Deward “Duke” Cameron, and Dan (Beverly) Cameron, all of Ansted, W.Va.; eight grandchildren, Russell (Roxann) Zornick of Vancouver, Wash., Michael (Michelle) Zornick of Salem, Ohio, Richelle Cameron of Chicago, Ill., Bobbi Cameron of South Carolina, Ernest Cameron III of Columbiana, Ohio, Angela (Kevin) Hampson of Hanoverton, Ohio, Brandon Buratti and Anna Buratti, both of Berlin Center, Ohio; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Stark Memorial Funeral Home, with Pastor Duane Quesenberry officiating. Burial will be at Highland Memorial Park.

Calling hours will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday at Stark Memorial.

Johnny D. Crouch

Johnny D. Crouch passed away Friday, Oct. 3, 2008.

Born Jan. 23, 1940, in Sanger, W.Va., he was the son of the late Harry and Annie Crouch.

Johnny was a people person. He never met a stranger. He was a very sweet person. If he thought someone needed anything, he would give what he had. Johnny loved to go hunting and fishing and was an avid race fan. He loved any and every sport. Johnny was the manager of Shooters for 17 years. There was not one person that didn’t like Johnny. He made everyone feel comfortable.

Johnny loved his family. He had so many special friends and he will be sadly missed.

Those left to cherish his memory include his daughter, Tammy Crouch of Cranberry; a son, Brian Crouch of Cranberry; grandsons, Austin Crouch of Crab Orchard and Tray Crouch of Crab Orchard; a granddaughter, Kapelyn Crouch of Crab Orchard; brothers, Carlos Crouch and wife Linda of Beckley, Pat Crouch and wife Patricia of Beckley, and James “Herbie” Crouch of Beckley; sisters, Linda “Susie” Mays and husband Rod of Beckley and Roseanna Anglin of Cranberry; uncle, William Roman and wife Hazel of Mount Hope; Sue Crouch, the mother of his children; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2008, at Cranberry Baptist Church, with Pastor Roger Pauley officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

Friends may gather with the family from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the church.

Edwin O. Davis Jr.

Edwin O. Davis Jr., of the community of Saxon, passed away Sunday, Oct. 5, 2008, at a Beckley hospital. He was 76 years old.

Ruby Houchins Meadows

Ruby Houchins Meadows, age 87, of Lewisburg, W.Va., formerly of Wayside, W.Va., died Saturday, Oct. 4, 2008, at The Seasons in Lewisburg, W.Va., following a short illness.

Born Oct. 21, 1920, at Wayside, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Thomas Clinton and Laura Allen Houchins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Meadows; four brothers, Charlie Houchins, Arnold Houchins, Harold Houchins, and Leonard Houchins; and three sisters, Emma Houchins, Mabel Beal, and Hazel Baker.

Mrs. Meadows was a retired correctional officer, retiring from the Federal Bureau of Prisons, Alderson, W.Va., and was a homemaker. She was a 1936 graduate of Greenville High School, Greenville, W.Va., and attended Concord College at Athens, W.Va. Mrs. Meadows was a member of the Wayside United Methodist Church, Wayside.

Survivors include a daughter, Martha Vass of Lewisburg; a son, William Meadows and his wife, Gatha, of Boardman, Ohio; a brother, Rufus Houchins and his wife, Helen, of Wayside; a sister, Margaret Berge of Fayetteville, N.C.; five grandchildren, Sonia Skripac and her husband, Mike, Patricia Crisman, David Vass, Zachary Vass, and Maybeth Vass; four great-grandchildren, Jessica Skripac, Randy Skripac, Billy Skripac, and Dakota Crisman; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2008, at the Wayside United Methodist Church, Wayside, W.Va. Burial will follow at the Wayside Cemetery.

Friends may call today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Lobban Funeral Home, Alderson, W.Va., and one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

In her last days of illness, she was lovingly and well cared for by the staff and caregivers at The Seasons, for which the family would like to express their appreciation.

Ruby Lea Morgan

Ruby Lea Morgan, 78, of Pineville, passed away Sunday, Oct. 5, 2008, following a short illness.

Calfee Funeral Service of Pineville is serving the Morgan family.

Jimmie Murphy

Jimmie Murphy, 43, of Neola, died in an automobile accident early Saturday morning, Oct. 4, 2008.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2008, in the Chapel of Shanklin Funeral Home. Visitation will be this evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Shanklin Funeral Home, White Sulphur Springs, is serving the family.

Irene Short

Irene “Bobbie” Short, 65, of Oak Grove Subdivision, Oceana, passed away Saturday, Oct. 4, 2008, following a short illness.

Born April 30, 1943, at Pineville, she was the daughter of the late Heber and Grace Foster Short.

Mrs. Short attended the Brenton Baptist Church. She liked working with flowers, going to flea markets, playing bingo, and being at home with her family and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Ronald “Moe” Coffey; a brother, Heber Short Jr.; and two sisters, Romelee Justus and Margaret Justus.

Survivors include her two daughters, Ronda Goode and her husband, Tommy, of Wyoming and Helen Marie Short of Baileysville; two sons, Bobby Lee Coffey and his wife, Sharon, of Oceana and James Heber “Poe” Coffey and his companion, Lenore, of Tazewell Va.; her fiance, Ronny J. Short of Fanrock; close friends, Jean and Bob Adams of Fanrock; three sisters, Hebera Curry of Wyoming, Nicole Short of Pineville, and Flora Short of Rural Retreat, Va.; 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

A celebration of Irene’s life will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2008, at Calfee Funeral Service Chapel, Pine-ville, with the Rev. Tommy Knotts officiating. Burial will follow in Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny.

The family will receive friends 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
