Larry Junior Burghy

OCEANA — Larry Junior Burghy, 55, of Oceana, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 2, 2008, surrounded by his loving family.

Larry was born Jan. 28, 1953, in Canton, Ohio, a son of the late Ralph Russell and Ruth Magalene Tucker Burghy.

He was a former gravedigger and of the Christian faith having attended the Indian Creek Community Church.

He was also preceded in death by a brother, Davy Burghy; stepson, Bobby Long; and his first wife, Betty Belcher Burghy.

Survivors include his loving wife of 11 years, Evelyn Kay Rose Burghy; two daughters, Mary Adkins and husband Clark and Tanya McClung and husband Tommy, all of North Carolina; six stepchildren, Laura Mellon and husband Mike of Kopperston, Russell Long and Kevin Long and wife Karen, all of Ohio, Jeanny Coleman and husband Thomas of Oceana, Tony Trent of Mullens and Alec Thornsbury and wife Kristi of Greenville, W.Va.; three sisters, Bonnie Batich and husband Paul of Florida, Diane Gerarg and Becky Burghy, both of Ohio; a brother, Denny Burghy of Ohio; 15 grandchildren; special friends Chelsea Westfall, Darlene Hurley and Larry Stafford; several nieces and nephews and a host of other loving family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at noon on Saturday, Oct. 4, 2008, at the Chapel of Stafford Family Funeral Home, Lynco, with Brothers Bill Rose and Scotty Cline officiating. Larry will be laid to rest in Lester Family Cemetery on Indian Creek.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Friday, at the funeral home.

Judith Ann Cales

RUPERT — Judith Ann Cales, 55, of Rupert, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2008, at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley, following a short illness.

Born Nov. 1, 1952, in South Charleston, she was the daughter of the late L.D. and Letha Grizzle Grossl.

Judith was a graduate of Greenbrier West High School and Bluefield State College with a B.A. in Journalism. She was a former librarian for the Quinwood public library.

Survivors include her husband, Gary Allen Cales of Rupert; two stepchildren, Aleasha Massie and Brandon Shane Cales; two brothers, John and Dale Grossl of Rupert; two nieces, Janie and Nikki Grossl; and one nephew, Zack Grossl.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, 2008, at the Wallace Memorial Mausoleum in Clintonville. Burial will follow in the Wallace Memorial Cemetery in Clintonville.

Friends may call one hour prior to the service (10 to 11 a.m.) at the mausoleum. There will be no evening visitation.

Clyde B. Cousin

Clyde B. Cousin, 86, of Lanark, W.Va., passed away on Sept. 25, 2008, at the Raleigh General Hospital following a long illness.

He was born July 6, 1922, in Stanaford, W.Va., to the late Ja-mes Cousin and Ada Cobbs Cousin.

Mr. Cousin was a World War II veteran, a boxer and a retired coal miner. He was also a longtime member of Mount Vernon Baptist Church and a member of New Era Baptist Church and a member of both choirs.

He was preceded in death by four sisters and three brothers.

Survivors include his wife, Dora Frances Cousin of Lanark; a daughter, Gloria Freeman (Kenneth) of Lanark; six stepdaughters, Serena Harris, Dreama Ellerbee, Yvette Pemberton, Lynette Green (Richard), Annette Burks (Henry) and Doreen Moore; a stepson, James Hoskins (Melva); 19 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. today, Friday, Oct. 3, 2008, at the Mount Vernon Baptist Church, with the Rev. Donald Cook, pastor, and with the Rev. Calvin Moore Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Prosperity.

Friends may call one hour prior to the services at the church on Friday.

Family members will serve as pallbearers and flower bearers.

The American Legion Post 32 will conduct military rites.

Walter Lee Goode

BUD MOUNTAIN — Walter Lee Goode, 72, of Bud Mountain, died Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2008, in a Beckley Hospital following a short illness.

Born Sept. 15, 1936, on Bud Mountain, he was the son of the late James Fount Goode and Nellie Jane Meadows Goode.

Walter was a lifelong resident of Bud Mountain, a former employee of C and A Lumber Co. where he was skidder operator with 30 plus years of service in the timber industry and was a former employee of the City of Mullens.

In addition to his parents he is also preceded in death by a daughter, Joyce Louise Goode; four sisters, Rosie, Sarah, Virgie, and Mary Frances; six brothers, Henderson, Leonard, Calvin, Jake, Alex and Albert Goode; a grandson, Earrie Goode Jr.

Those left to cherish his memory include three daughters, Janie Henson and her husband Jimmy of Iroquois, Ruth Goode of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Cathy Jones and her husband Daryel of Covel; four sons, Earrie Goode and his wife Rose of Mullens, Timmy Goode and his companion, Phyllis, of Cincinnati, Ohio, Ezra Goode and his wife Connie of South Carolina, and Roy Goode of Bud Mountain; one brother, Howard Goode of California; 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Tankersley Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Gary Eskins officiating. Burial will follow in the Goode Cemetery, Bud Mountain.

Friends may call one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Pauline L. Malay

OAK HILL — Pauline L. Malay, 75, passed away Thursday, Oct. 2, 2008, at Plateau Medical Center.

Jerry Lee Pack

Jerry Lee Pack died after a short illness at the Ohio State University Hospital on Sept. 30, 2008. He was 65 years old.

He was preceded in death by his father Aubrey A. Pack and his brother Aubrey David Pack (Gail).

He is survived by his wife, Erma Hogan Pack, and son Garrett Pack, his mother Margaret Hamby Pack of Dublin, Ohio, his brothers Lonnie Pack of Columbus, Ohio, and Randy Pack of Houston, Texas, and sisters Norma Duncan of Fairfax, Va., and Vicki Mayhew (Larry) of Nashville, Tenn., plus many nieces and nephews.

Jerry was born in Pond Creek, Ohio, on June 1, 1943. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business from West Virginia University and served in the National Guard during the Vietnam war. He worked as manager for Gold Circle, Staples, and MicroCenter stores throughout his professional career.

A memorial gathering will be held 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 4, at the Schoedinger Worthington Chapel, 6699 N. High St. (1/2 mile south of I-270).

The family requests that donations be made to the Worthington Library in lieu of flowers.

Carrie Marie Perry

JUSTICE — Carrie Marie Perry, 84, died Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2008.

Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Mounts Funeral Home Chapel, Gilbert. Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Vernel Amick Perry

KEYSTONE HEIGHTS, Fla. — Vernel Amick Perry, 98, formerly of Hico, passed away Oct. 1, 2008.

Service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Sunday Road Baptist Church in Hico. Entombment will follow in the Chapel of Rest Mausoleum, Victor. Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. today at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home Chapel, Ansted.

Lisa Ann Rudisill

HILLDALE — Lisa Ann Rudisill, 41, of Hilldale, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2008, at her home following a long illness.

Born Dec. 16, 1966, in Hinton, she was the daughter of Ray K. and Marlene Jones Rudisill of Hilldale.

Lisa was a former substitute cook for the Summers County Board of Education. She was a 1985 graduate of Hinton High School and was a member of Mt. Pisgah Methodist Church at Hilldale. Lisa was a lifelong resident of Summers County.

Lisa touched many lives here on earth. Her fortitude was an example for everyone who struggles with illness. “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.”

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Robert R. Sr. and Elsie Mann Rudisill. Also preceded by her maternal grandparents, Lindsey and Grace Mitchell Jones.

In addition to Lisa’s parents, other survivors include three brothers, Verol Rudisill and wife Carolyn and Donald Rudisill, both of Hilldale, and Nolan Rudisill and wife Gloria of Newport News, Va.; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, 2008, at Pivont Funeral Home Chapel in Hinton with Revs. Glen Pysell, Sterling Morgan and Ken Stockwell officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Baptist Church Cemetery at Forest Hill.

Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. today, Friday, at the funeral home.

Cousins and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Zella Mae Stanley

Zella Mae Stanley, 78, of Beaver, died Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2008, in a Charleston hospital following a short illness.

Born March 2, 1930, in Hinton, she was the daughter of the late Pat and Ethel McMillion Maddy.

She was a Lab Tech retiring from Beckley Medical Arts in 1990. Zella loved her family, especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed working outdoors, especially with her flowers and in her garden. She also loved walking with her neighbors.

Besides her parents she was preceded in death by a brother, Johnny Maddy and his wife Carol.

Zella had been a resident of Raleigh County for the past 58 years.

Survivors include daughters, Zoe Gail Kuhn and her husband Roy of Coal City, and Katie Giambanco and her husband Vito of Daniels; grandchildren: Brandon Kuhn, Rebecca Kuhn, Alex Giambanco and Rosa Giambanco; brothers, Joe Maddy and his wife Agnes of Albuquerque, N.M., and Tommy Maddy and his wife Mary of Pittsburgh, Pa.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, 2008, in the Calfee Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. John Lares officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Tabor Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. today, Friday.

Pallbearers will be Brandon Kuhn, Alex Giambanco, Vito Giambanco, Joe Maddy, Tommy Maddy and Tom Woods.

HOLDEN — William H. Turner Jr., 89 of Holden, passed away Thursday, Oct. 2, 2008.
