Kleta Kay Kinney Allen
LOGAN — Kleta Kay Kinney Allen, 62, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2008.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 7, at Nighbert Memorial Methodist Church.
Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Honaker Funeral Home.

Virginia Bragg
On Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2008, Virginia Bragg passed away at the Hidden Valley Center. She was in her 83rd year.
Born Virginia Kathleen Gardner on May 17, 1925, at Laurel Creek in Fayette County, she was one of eight children born to the late Eugene and Leota Berry Gardner. Her sisters, Nona Lee Kincaid, Lillie Mae Ayers and Emma Jean Keller; and brothers, Cecil, Hersie and Billy Gardner, also preceded her in death.
Virginia spent her childhood at Laurel Creek. A resident of Daniels since 1967, Virginia resided in Prosperity for 22 years. A devoted member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, she was a past member of the Ladies of St. Francis, Shady Spring Garden and the Women’s Club. In her leisure time, she enjoyed knitting and crocheting.
In addition to the Gardner family, Virginia was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Paul Edward Bragg, on Sept. 21, 1981.
She was the devoted mother of Paul E. Bragg and his wife, Darlena, of Inwood and Vickie Lilly and her husband, Keith, of Jumping Branch; Virginia was the proud grandmother of Heather Bragg and Michael Sweeney; the dear sister of Joe Gardner and the fond aunt of several nieces and nephews.
The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church with Monsignor Samuel Sacus as celebrant. The Rite of Committal will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery at Sunset Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends 10 a.m. until the hour of the funeral mass at the church on Saturday.
Family members and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Lloyd D. Clark
Lloyd D. “Gator” Clark, 69, of Stanaford, died Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2008, at the Cabell Huntington Hospital as a result of injuries received in an automobile accident.
Born May 16, 1939, at Pemberton, he was the son of the late Edgar Clark Smith Sr. and Violet Southern Clark.
Mr. Clark was a retired electrician and a U.S. Army veteran.
He was preceded in death by two wives, Ruth Ann Myers Clark and Mable Clark; three brothers, Floyd and Edgar Clark and David Smith; a sister, Lottie May Clark; and his maternal grandparents, John and Laura Quesenberry, and Floyd and Edgar Clark.
Survivors include his stepchildren, Bruce Myers and Jackie Hylton, both of Princeton; six stepgrandchildren; sisters, Dorothy Hargis of Stanaford, with whom he made his home, and Diane Stowers and her husband, Carl, of Sophia; four nieces, Lisa Becker and husband, Jeff, of Sophia, Deloris Combs of Beckley, Kay Patty Clark and Rose Ann Clark of Princeton; two nephews, Eddie and Ray Clark of Princeton; great-nephews, Jeffery Allen Becker Jr. and Darin Wayne Combs Jr., Timothy Gene Becker Jr. and Sonny Bobby Lee Becker; great-nieces, Angel Dawn Becker and Laura and Ashley Combs; his fiancé, Debra Shepherd.
Service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley, with the Rev. Bill Prunest officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery, Oak Grove.
Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Becker, Jeffery Becker Jr., Carl Stowers, Timothy Becker Jr., Dallas Lane and Scott.

George Leo Cook
WINDOM ROAD — George Leo Cook, 73, departed this life Monday, July 28, 2008, in Erwin, Tenn., following a long illness.
Born Sept. 5, 1934, in Wyoming County, he was the son of the late Rev. Ezra L. Cook and Tressie Jane Blankenship Cook.
Leo served in the Navy. Although self-taught and trained, he was well regarded during his career as a coal miner and mining engineer. He was always a hard worker and a valued employee. He enjoyed gardening, the outdoors and, during his latter years, woodworking. Much of his handiwork decorates his home and the homes of his family. Leo was a member of Cooper Memorial Baptist Church. He believed in helping others.
In addition to his parents, Leo was preceded in death by a brother, James E. Cook; and a sister, Eva Ogal.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 51 years, Jo Anne Cook of Windom Road; two sons, George Shawn Cook and his wife, Lesa, of Fayetteville and Kevin Joel Cook and his wife, Mary Beth, of Saulsville; a daughter, Tammie C. Snider and her husband, Lou, of Erwin, Tenn.; four sisters, Shirley Watkins of Baltimore, Md., and Yvonne Mounts, Naomi Adkins and Bonnie Gail Mathis, all of Flordia; four grandchildren, Nolan Snider and Cali Jo Snider, both of Erwin, and George Tyler Cook and George Logan Cook, both of Fayetteville; several nieces and nephews; and a host of family and friends.
When a debilitating illness presented great challenges during the last years of his life, many friends and family members demonstrated great caring and patience toward Leo. For these kind acts, the family expresses deep appreciation.
In keeping with Mr. Cook’s wishes, his body was cremated.
A memorial service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Cooper Memorial Baptist Church on Windom Road.

Betty L. Fleming Dillard
RICHWOOD — Betty L. Fleming Dillard, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2008, after battling metastatic lung cancer.
She was born on Feb. 23, 1938, in Jerryville, W.Va., a daughter of the late Clyde K. and Mary Ruth Cogar Green.
She was also preceded in death by a brother, Eugene Green; a sister and brother-in-law, Eleanor Simms and Charles “Rusty” Simms.
Mrs. Dillard was a Baptist by faith.
Survivors include her husband, Eugene Dillard; a daughter, Jacqueline Marchelle (Fleming) Bennett and husband, Tim, of Fenwick; three sons, John Mark Fleming and wife, Lisa, of Cowen, Paul David Fleming and wife, Patricia, of Richwood, and Bobby Jerome Fleming and wife, Louisa, of Statesville, N.C.; two stepdaughters, Kathy Russell and husband, Larry, of Richwood, and Crystal Hosch and husband, James, of Columbia, S.C.; two brothers, Arnold Green and wife, Mary Ann, of Rutland, Ohio, and family and Nelson Green and wife, June, of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and family, and the family of his deceased sister, Eleanor Simms; three granddaughters, Lindsey Fleming, Marissa Fleming and Shannon Skiles; three great-grandsons, Dustin and Dakota Skiles and Tyler Clyde; two stepgrandsons, Jimmy Russell and wife, Anissa, and Hunter Hosch; one stepgranddaughter, Molly Hosch, and two stepgreat-grandchildren, Zachery and Savannah Russell.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend and neighbor.
Her daughter, sons and grandchildren were the sunshine of her life.
She was disabled from the Sacred Heart Hospital/RACH in 1991 after 23 years as a devoted Nurse’s Aide. She enjoyed her work and made many lifelong friends with her co-workers, many of whom are deceased.
She will be deeply missed by her husband, daughter and son-in-law, sons and daughters-in-law, and grandchildren. But her love and precious memories will live on with all who were blessed to have known her.
Service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Simons-Coleman Funeral Home, Richwood, with the Rev. Brent Franco officiating. Entombment will follow at the West Virginia Memorial Gardens at Calvin.
Friends may call noon until time of the service Saturday at the funeral home.

Shawn Douglas Fox, 17, of Fairdale, died Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2008, of injuries received in an automobile accident.

Leonard W. Godby
Leonard W. Godby, 84, of Beckley, died Sunday, Aug. 31, 2008, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Huntington, W.Va.
Born July 13, 1924, in Skelton, W.Va., he was the son of the late Havanna Christian.
Leonard was a member of Calloway Heights Baptist Church for 43 years and he sang in the choir. He served in the Korean Conflict and received a discharge from the U.S. Army in 1952. He retired from Appalachian Regional Hospital after 30 years of service.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by two sons, Leonard Lee Godby and Charles Clensy Godby.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 51 years, Betty Hanks Godby of Beckley; one grandson, Dustin Godby of Shady Spring; one cousin in Oak Hill; one brother-in-law and one sister-in-law.
Service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley, with Pastor Bill Parker and Pastor Jeff Canterbury officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Friends may gather with the family two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.

Marshall Andrew ‘Andy’ Grogg
Marshall Andrew “Andy” Grogg, 54, died Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2008, at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville, Va., due to complications after surgery.
Andy was born Jan. 30, 1954, in Charleston, W.Va., to Gwen and Kenneth Grogg.
He was a graduate of Mullens High School, Potomac State College and Glenville State College. He was a long time educator and football coach. He had taught most recently in Kanawha and Greenbrier counties. He was currently serving as an assistant football coach under his brother, Wyoming East head coach Kevin Grogg. Andy had a love for football and he enjoyed coaching his son, Thad. His family was his life.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Virgil and Ernestine Grogg; and maternal grandparents, Ray and Freda Griffith.
Surviving the family members are parents, Gwen and Kenneth of Beckley; wife, LeeAnn of Lewisburg; children, Ashley and Thad of Charleston, Liza of Lewisburg; stepson, Thaxton Peyatte of Lewisburg; brother, Kevin (Becky) of Mullens; niece, Mallory Green of Mullens; nephew, Justin of Beckley; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Service will be noon today at Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home Shady Spring Chapel with the Rev. Adeb Khalil officiating, with an eulogy by Byron Dean. Entombment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum, Beckley.
Friends called 1 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home and may call 10 a.m. until time of the service today.
Pallbearers will be his close personal friends.

Dollie Holsten
Dollie Holsten, 95, of Dorothy, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2008, at CAMC General Division in Charleston.
She was born on Jan. 10, 1913, a daughter of the late Henry and Mahala Holsten Stover.
Mrs. Holsten was a member of the Pentecostal Freedom Church at Ameagle.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Holsten; a daughter, Evelyleen Douglas; and three sons, “Peanuts,” Jack and Albert Lee.
She is survived by four sons, Ronnie and his wife, Phyllis, of Dorothy, Charles and his wife, Judy, of Colcord, Roy and his wife, Vickie, of Maple Fork, and Danny and his wife, Diana, of North Carolina; two daughters, Nenna Bell Lively of Whitesville and Polly Middleton and her husband, Larry, of Michigan; a sister, Maggie Beard of Arizona; 21 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Armstrong Funeral Home, Whitesville, with the Rev. Cecil McClellan officiating. Burial will follow in the Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

Robert ‘Bobby’ Wendall Langston
Robert “Bobby” Wendall Langston, 45, of Maple Fork, died Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2008.
Bobby was born April 4, 1963, in Cook County, Chicago, Ill.
He was a former construction worker.
Bobby was preceded in death by his mother, Ella Marcum Langston; and a sister, Janet Tilley.
Survivors include two sisters, Jennifer Watts and husband, Dennis, of Maple Fork, and Rebecca Watts of Beckley; three nephews, Robert Ruff and Walter Langston, of Mount Hope, and Michael Langston of Maple Fork and a niece, Brenda Evans of Maple Fork.
There will be no service or visitation.

Betty Jackson Moran
On Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2008, Betty Jackson Moran of the Pine Hills Community went to join her beloved husband, the late Edward Staunton Moran Jr., after a long illness. She was in her 82nd year.
Born Betty Lee Jackson on Feb. 1, 1926, at Buffalo, she was the eighth of nine children born to the late James Robert and Lelia Lenore Mitchell Jackson. In addition to her husband, seven brothers and sisters preceded Betty in death.
Betty spent her childhood at Buffalo, where she graduated from Buffalo High School. She studied music and special education at West Virginia Wesleyn College. A resident of Beckley since 1962, she was a member of the United Methodist Temple. Betty held memberships in the Chaminade Music Club and the Beckley Women’s Club. In the 1960s, she was the pianist for the youth choir, the youth church and Sunday School at the First Baptist Church on Neville Street.
Betty Jackson Moran will be remembered for her dedication in the mental health field for exceptional children and adults in Kanawha and Raleigh Counties. A tireless volunteer for 30 years, she and her late husband, Edward, were the grass roots founders of the Raleigh County Special Olympics, where she served as the secretary for 15 years. In 1991, the Moran family was honored as the “Family of the Year” by the State of West Virginia Special Olympics.
She was the loving mother of Ned and Leisa Moran of Pine Hills; the dear sister of James “Pete” Jackson and his wife, Carol, of Mooresville, N.C., and Marilyn Jones and her husband, Bud, of Eleanor; the sweet aunt of several nieces and nephews, among them Bob Pickens of Cary, N.C.; Jeanette Taylor of St. Louis, Mo., and Gene Pickens of Savannah, Ga.
Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Saturday at the Melton Mortuary Chapel at 1200 Harper Road, Beckley, with the Rev. Chuck Pullins officiating. Burial will follow in the Moran family plot at the Sunset Memorial Park, where Betty will be laid to rest beside her beloved Edward.
The family will receive friends 5 to 8 p.m. today at the mortuary and one hour prior to the service on Saturday.

Larry Patterson
ALPHARETTA, Ga. — Larry Patterson, 65, of Alpharetta, passed away Monday, Sept. 1, 2008, in Columbia, Md., of a sudden illness.
Born July 17, 1943, in Meadow Bridge, he was a son of the late Marvin R. and Erma Aldine Fox Patterson.
Larry was a computer consultant for Lockheed Martin Corp., a member of the Mathematics Association, and was a graduate of both Syracuse and Marshall Universities, having earned a master’s degree in computer science from Syracuse and a master’s degree in mathematics from Marshall.
Survivors include: his wife, Bobbi Boggs Patterson; two daughters, Melanie Pasternak and husband, Eric, of Schuylerville, N.Y., and Mandy Kopp and husband, Chris, of Fairfax, Va., and their son, Ethan; one son, Scott Patterson and wife, Teri, of Fairfax, Va., and their children, Charlotte, Holden and Phoebe; and three brothers, Jerry Patterson of Meadow Bridge, Harold Patterson of Bowie, Md., and Roger Patterson and wife, Millie, of Lewisburg.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Chapel, Rainelle. Entombment will follow in the Wallace Memorial Mausoleum, Clintonville.

Anna Lee Ubeda
Anna Lee Ubeda, 89, of Beckley, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, Aug. 29, 2008, in Lake Placid, Fla., following an extended illness.
Born July 13, 1919, at Rush Run, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Vince L. and Hallie Snuffer Shumate.
Mrs. Ubeda was a member of First Christian Church in Beckley. She was a great cook and homemaker who was always dedicated to her family and friends. She enjoyed her lifelong hobby of scrapbooking and photographically recording each family member’s life. She will be missed by all who knew her and loved her.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Ubeda Jr., in 2002; grandson, Frankie Lee Ubeda Jr.; sisters, Mary Rose Parsons, Eloise Broome and her husband, Junior, Helen Slemp and her husband, Tom; brothers, Vince L. Shumate Jr. and his wife, Imogene, William Richard Shumate and his wife, Wilma J.
Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Frankie Lee Ubeda and his wife, Antje, of Lake Placid, Fla.; her daughter, Alegria A.
