Olga L. Adkins
Olga L. Adkins, 72, of Beckley, passed away Sunday, Aug. 31, 2008, after a long illness.
Born Dec. 2, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Fielden and Ruth Haga.
Olga enjoyed camping and loved her grandkids. She was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Steve Clark.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Jack L. Adkins Sr. of Beckley; sons, Jack L. Adkins Jr. and wife Teresa of Beckley and Kenneth Adkins and wife Thelma of White Sulphur Springs; granddaughters, Kelsie Adkins of Beckley and April Street and husband Aaron of Glace, W.Va.; grandson, C.J. Adkins of White Sulphur Springs; sisters, Pat Avril of Bath, Mich., and Wanda Sober of Florida; and brothers, Johnnie Haga of Michigan, Tommie Haga of Michigan, and George Haga of Michigan.
Graveside services will be held at noon on Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2008, at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.
Friends may gather with the family from 11:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the cemetery.

Debra Lee ‘Debbie’ Belcher
LYNCO — Debra Lee “Debbie” Belcher, 50, of Lynco, W.Va., went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, Aug. 30, 2008, at West Virginia University Hospital in Morgantown, W.Va., after a long illness.
Debbie was born July 6, 1958, in Morganton, N.C., a daughter of Cora Lee Stamey Harvey of Lynco, W.Va., and the late James Howard Harvey of Lynco, W.Va.
She was a member of the Full Gospel Tabernacle at Kopper City Bottom and a 1976 graduate of Oceana High School.
Also preceding her in death were her maternal grandparents, Walter and Elsie Stamey of Morganton, N.C., and paternal grandparents, Frank and Lilly Harvey of Lillydale, W.Va.
In addition to her mother, survivors also include her loving husband, Edward Dewayne Belcher; a sister, Eloise Thomas of Burnsville, N.C.; her loving church family and a host of other family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. today at the Full Gospel Tabernacle, Kopper City Bottom, with Pastor Ricky Proffitt officiating. Debbie will be laid to rest at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2008, in Burke Memorial Park in Morganton, N.C.
Friends may gather with the family at the church from 5 to 9 p.m. today.

Sam G. Carman
WORTHINGTON, Ohio — Sam G. Carman, age 80, of Worthington, Ohio, formerly of Beckley, W.Va., died Saturday, Aug. 30, 2008, after a short illness, at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Jeneanne.
Sam is survived by his wife, Betty; children, Yvonne (David) Pruett of Umatilla, Fla., Pam Weber of Greensboro, N.C., Lou Ann Carman of Columbus, Ohio, J. Kim (Jeanne) Croker of Cardington, Ohio, Greg (Diana) Carman of Grapevine, Texas, and Jeneanne (Wayne) Adkins of Dublin, Ohio; grandchildren, Lisa Pruett, Kelly (Don) Welsh, Joshua (Chavala) Tweedy, David Pruett, Megan (Tom) Filippi, James Lang, and Madison Adkins; great-grandchildren, Kimberly, Devin, and Tyler Welsh, and Jacob Tweedy; and many nieces and nephews.
He worked 38 years with A&P Tea Company and seven years at Columbus Metropolitan Housing Authority. He was past president of the Capital City Sam’s Camping Club and current president of his condo association.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, 2008, at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 614 S. Oakwood Ave., Beckley, WV 25801. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley, W.Va.

GILBOA — Julie Carol Chapman, 51, of Gilboa, Nicholas County, W.Va., died Sunday, Aug. 31, 2008.
Memorial services will be held later. In keeping with her wishes, the body was cremated.

Leona Rose Frye
MULLENS — Leona Rose Frye, 89, of Mullens, W.Va., previously of St. Clairsville, Ohio, went home to be with the Lord, who told her, “Well done, my good and faithful servant,” on Aug. 31, 2008, after a short illness.
Born June 5, 1919, at Yorkville, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late John and Clara Walters.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Emmett A. Frye; a daughter, Harriett Frye Muscari; and 13 brothers and sisters.
She was a homemaker and attended the Harbor of Hope Church in St. Clairs-ville. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by a son-in-law, Dr. Sam Muscari Sr. of Clear Fork, W.Va.; two grandsons, Dr. Sam Muscari Jr. and his wife Louise of Pineville and Dr. Mike Muscari and his wife Terri of Pineville; four great-grandsons, Ben Muscari of Charleston, Nick Muscari of Lewisburg, Kyle Muscari of Morgantown, and Evan Muscari of Pineville; a great-great-granddaughter, Amelia Rose Muscari of Charleston; and special friends, Kenny and Shirley Phillips of St. Clairsville, Ohio.
A memorial service and entombment will be held 11 a.m. today at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, with Rev. Doc Adkins officiating.
The family would like to extend our heartfelt thanks and appreciation to her special angels and caregivers, Lea Rezzonico, Donna Bowers, Robin Barker, and Judy Weaver.

Ruth Mary Elkins Gautier
PENHOOK, Va. — Ruth Mary Elkins Gautier, age 85, of Penhook, Va., died Sunday, Aug. 31, 2008.
She retired from the Wyoming County West Virginia School System to Penhook, Va., to own and operate Frenchie and Ruth’s Mini-Mart.
Ruth was raised in Eccles, W.Va., and she and husband Frenchie raised their family in Itmann, W.Va.
She was born Sept. 22, 1922, in Eccles, W.Va., a daughter of the late Tag and Sylvia Clay Elkins.
She was also preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Jules “Frenchie” Gautier; sisters, Pansy Wyatt of Fairdale, W.Va., Opal Burleson of Baltimore, Md., and Violet Jenkins of Brownsmill, N.J.
Mrs. Gautier is survived by her sons, Jules Gautier Jr. (Karen) of Gary, W.Va., Jack Gautier, and Susan Evans of Penhook, Va.; her grandchildren, Jules “Jay” Gautier III and wife Mary of Beckley, W.Va., Jeremy Gautier and wife Wynetta of New Richmond, W.Va., Jason Gautier of Beckley, W.Va., Chastity Gautier McBroom and husband John of Laffette, Va., and Brandon Gautier and wife Ashley of Roanoke, Va.; and great-grandchildren, Jamie, Hunter, Hannah, Rachael, Melissa, Tye, Ayla, Django, Isabella, and Brady.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, 2008, from Penhook United Methodist Church, with Rev. Tommy Newman officiating. Interment will follow in Liberty Christian Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Flora Funeral Service, 665 S. Main St., Rocky Mount, Va.

Jenny Lee Vass Lyons
Jenny Lee Vass Lyons, age 56, of 707 Maxwell Hill Road, Beckley, W.Va., died Sunday, Aug. 31, 2008, at the Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley, following a sudden illness.
Born on Aug. 10, 1952, at Beckley, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Elsworth M. and Frances L. Bolt Vass of MacArthur, W.Va.
Mrs. Lyons was a 1970 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School and a 1971 graduate of the Beckley Beauty School. She was a Baptist and was a member of the Mt. Tabor Baptist Church. Mrs. Lyons was a lifelong resident of Raleigh County. Mrs. Lyons was also a member of the Scarlet Royals of The Red Hat Society. Her love of life was spending precious moments with the love of her life, her husband, Larry; her precious love of her little angel, Brianna; her love for Kimberly and Larry Jr.; and also the love she so desired for her only grandchild, her grandson, Tyler Lyons. She was a homemaker and the last member of her immediate family.
Mrs. Lyons was preceded in death by a brother, Elsworth Jr., in 1944; a sister, Janet Lee Vass Rakes, in December 2001; a nephew, Bobby Lee Lane II, in February 2007; and her maternal grandmother, Rebecca Jane Sarver Bolt, in 1981.
Survivors include her beloved husband of 37 years, Larry; three precious children that she loved with all her heart, two daughters, Brianna Meredith Lyons at home and Kimberly Ann Lyons Thombs and her husband Ronnie of Oak Hill, W.Va., and a son, Larry Lynn Lyons Jr. of Beckley, W.Va.; a grandson, Tyler Lyons of Beckley; a nephew, Kevin W. McVey of Los Angeles, Calif.; a niece, Sherry Stables of Princeton, W.Va.; a great-niece, Ashley “Nikki” Lane; and four great-nephews, Brian and Jeffery Lane, and Christopher and Brandon Stables.
Funeral services will be conducted at noon on Wed-nesday, Sept. 3, 2008, at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley, with Pastor Michael King officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Prosperity, W.Va.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. until service time on Wednesday.

ECCLES — Rev. Clemma Fuson Pugh, of Jefferson Street, Eccles, died on Sunday, Aug. 31, 2008. She as 82 years of age.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, 2008, at the Glen White Church of God. Friends may call Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Melton Mortuary on Harper Road and one hour prior to the services at the church on Thursday.

Melvin R. Rice
Melvin R. Rice, age 87, of Daniels, W.Va., died Sunday, Aug. 31, 2008, at the Bowers Hospice House in Beckley, following a short illness.
Born on Jan. 23, 1921, at Beaver, W.Va., he was the son of the late James Lucas Rice and Carrie Lilly Rice.
Mr. Rice was mostly employed as a coal miner at Affinity Coal Mines, and had worked as a maintenance employee at the Beckley Child Care Center.
Mr. Rice was a member of the Blue Jay United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the United Methodist Men’s Group and sang in the choir.
He was known for his ability in playing the harmonica. He enjoyed decorating with blue Christmas lights at his home on Oak Street.
He was a member of the UMWA, and had lived at Daniels for most of his life.
Mr. Rice was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Marie Massey Rice; and a brother, Kendall Rice.
Survivors include a son, Charles Rice of Daniels, W.Va.; a granddaughter, Jennifer Rice of Daniels, W.Va.; a great-granddaughter, Lauryn Marie Quintana of Daniels, W.Va.; and a sister, Frances Burgin of Beaver, W.Va.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home Shady Spring Chapel, with Rev. Betty Lusk officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Prosperity.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Robert Via, J.D. Meador, Kenneth Adkins, Richard Stanley, Glenn Chapman, and Tom Pugh. Honorary pallbearer will be Edwin Massey.

Born Dec. 14, 1930, at Quinnimont, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Margaret Anderson Crotty.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph, of 50 years in 1995; and her youngest son, Duane Lee Shawver, in 1992.
