Beverly Ann Bennett, 50, of Beckley, formerly of Bud Mountain, died Sunday, Aug. 24, 2008, at her residence.

William Otis Berger, 66, of Calipatria, Calif., formerly of Raleigh and Beckley, died Sunday, Aug. 24, 2008, following an extended illness.
Service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2008, at Frye Chapel and Mortuary, 799 Brawley Ave., Brawley, Calif.

Wilda Virginia Dean Bryant
Wilda Virginia Dean Bryant, 78, died Saturday, Aug. 23, 2008.
Friends may visit the family during the day at the Jack Bland residence on Big Draft Road. Friends may call noon to 12:30 p.m. today at Shanklin Funeral Home, White Sulphur Springs. Graveside service will follow 1 p.m. at Whatcoat Cemetery.

SUMMERSVILLE — Elizabeth Frances Jackson, 84, died Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2008.
Service will be 2 p.m. Friday at the Waters Funeral Chapel, Summersville. Burial will follow in the Walker Memorial Park, Summersville.
Friends may call one hour prior to the service Friday at the funeral chapel.

Clarence Gilbert Lilly
Clarence Gilbert Lilly, 78, of Beckley, passed away Saturday, Aug. 23, 2008, at Bowers Hospice House in Cranberry, W.Va., following a long illness.
Born Nov. 25, 1929, at Dunns, W.Va., he was the son of the late Clarence Lilly and Icy “Hatcher” Lilly.
Mr. Lilly had retired from the Continental Baking Company, known as Wonder Bread, where he served as a truck loader for 39 years. He was also a member of the Cranberry Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Glen Neil Lilly.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 59 and a half years, Mildred “Rickman” Lilly; two sons, Michael Lilly and his wife, Donna, of Lincoln, Neb., and Mitchell Lilly and his wife, Belinda, of Sparta, Tenn.; three daughters, Kathleen Penny of Taylor, Mich., Barbara Moore of Ravenna, Ohio, and Peggy Zlatkin of Sterling Heights, Mich.; a brother, Luther Randolph Lilly of Beckley; and a sister, Beulah Rose Moye of Beckley; 20 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Service for Mr. Lilly will be 2 p.m. today at Cranberry Baptist Church with Pastor Roger Pauley officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley.
Friends called 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home, Beckley, and may call one hour prior to the service today at the church.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Rowan Quinn Pennington-Baker
Rowan Quinn Pennington-Baker, three-month-old infant daughter of Phillip Baker and Mandy Pennington of Charleston, became an angel on Aug. 23, 2008.
Besides her parents, she is survived by her maternal grandmother, Jeane Pennington of Charleston; paternal grandparents, Wayne and Martha Baker of Beckley; paternal great- grandmother, Doris Gallagher of Ghent; aunts and uncles, Janie and Jim Nielsen of Charleston, Anne and Amanda Baker, both of Beckley, Suzey and Wilmer Boggess, Sian Boggess and Sara Telisko, all of Charleston, Rita Gallagher of Scott Depot, Michael and Nancy Gallagher of Barboursville, Vincent and Pam Gallagher of Shady Spring, and Joseph Gallagher of Ghent.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, St. Albans, with Father Pat McDonough officiating. Burial will follow in the Ingram Family Cemetery, Sissonville.
Visitation with the family will be 5 to 8 p.m. today at Cunningham-Parker-Johnson Funeral Home, where a Christian wake service will be 7 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Daniel Jones, Brent Hall, Justin Pistore and Wilmer Boggess.

Louise Hambrick Scarce
DRY FORK — Mary Louise Hambrick Scarce, 98, of 2497 Whitmell School Road, died Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2008, at Danville Regional Medical Center. She had been in declining health since 2001.
Mrs. Scarce was born in Lignite, Va., on Oct. 4, 1909, the daughter of the late Edward Bland Hambrick and the late Jo-anna Hambrick Hambrick.
She lived her early years in Beaver, and had lived most of her life in the Whitmell community of Pittsylvania County. She was a homemaker and she had taught school for two years in Rawleigh County, W.Va., and for two years at Mount Hermon. She also taught piano to area children and adults for fifty years. She was a member of Whitmell United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Scarce was married to Irving Huesman Scarce, who preceded her in death. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a sister, Ellen Lillian Hambrick.
She is survived by two daughters, Joann S. Strader and husband, Eugene B. Strader, of Toano, Va., and Mary Lou S. Beck and husband, Harvey W. Beck, of Dry Fork; three sons, Kenneth C. Scarce and wife, Linda P. Scarce, of Dry Fork, Thomas E. Scarce, of Roanoke, Va., and Richard N. Scarce of the residence; three grandchildren, Stephanie S. Scarce, Jonathan K. Scarce and Courtney C. Scarce.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Wrenn-Yeatts, Westover Chapel with the Rev. Susan Hannah officiating. Interment will be in the Scarce Family Cemetery in Dry Fork. The family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the Wrenn-Yeatts, Westover Chapel and at other times at the residence.
The family suggests that memorials may be made to the Tunstall Fire & Rescue, P.O. Box 575, Danville, VA 24543.
Wrenn-Yeatts, Westover Chapel is assisting the Scarce family.
Barbara Tolliver
PINEVILLE — Barbara Tolliver, 52, of Indian Creek Road, Pineville, was called home by the Lord on Saturday, Aug. 23, 2008, at St. Mary’s Medical Center, Huntington, following a long illness.
Born July 7, 1956, at Pineville, she was the daughter of the late Richard and Virginia Long Simpson.
Mrs. Tolliver was a lifelong resident of Wyoming County and was a member of Brenton Baptist Church. She was a homemaker and enjoyed working around the house, collecting porcelain dolls and purses. She also enjoyed shopping and talking with her family and friends. She lived life to the fullest.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepfather, Kemper Cook; two sisters, Kathy and Christine Simpson; and two brothers, Billy and Dennis Simpson.
Survivors include her loving husband of 35 years, Edsel Tolliver; two daughters, Angela Roberts and her husband, Bubby, of Fanrock, and Cyndi Patrick and her husband, Jeff, of Brier Creek; a son, Edsel “Junior” Tolliver and his wife, Stephanie, of Maryland; a brother, Jimmy Simpson of Brenton; seven sisters, Shirley Lusk of New York, Marie Whittington of New Richmond, Connie Davis of Florida, Betty Mitchem of Brier Creek, Cletis Miller of Beaver, Diana Faulkner of Princeton, Doreen Miller of Skin Fork; five grandchildren, Tori, Cody, Dylan, Dustin and Brad; and very dear best friends, Teresa Hicks of Pineville and Audrey and Fred Forren of Turkey Creek.
Service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Brenton Baptist Church with the Rev. Tommy Knotts officiating. Burial will follow in Roberts-Tolliver Cemetery, Fanrock.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Family will receive friends 6 to 9 p.m. today at the church.
