EDGEWOOD, Ky. — Roberta L. (Brooks) Deitz, 70, died Aug. 18, 2008.
Service will be at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in the family cemetery in West Virginia.

Clarence Richard ‘Pete’ (Scooby) Evans
JESSE — Clarence Richard “Pete” “Scooby” Evans, 55, of Jesse, entered into Heaven on Aug. 17, 2008, from his home.
He was born Jan. 24, 1953, at Cyclone, W.Va., a son of the late Robert and Minnie Blankenship Evans.
He was also preceded in death by his son, Brian Keith Evans, whom he loved and missed dearly and was taken too soon; and a brother, Billy Perry.
Scooby was a member of the UMWA Local 7604, having worked for Eastern Associated Coal Company for 19 years at the Kopperston No. 2 mine. He attended the Oceana Freewill Baptist Church and was employed by the WV Department of Highways for the last nine years and 11 months. Pete enjoyed 4-wheeling, fishing, hunting, spending time with his grandchildren and family, and going to church.
Survivors include his loving wife of 37 years, Judy Dean Evans; two loving sons, Richard Evans and wife, Schurla, of Kopperston, and Adam Evans of Jesse; a loving brother, Charles Evans and wife, Patricia, of Cyclone; a loving sister, Helen Daniels of Neibert; two loving grandsons, Brian and Brandon; two precious granddaughters, Breanna and Bethany; several special nieces and nephews; and a host of special friends.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the Oceana Freewill Baptist Church with Pastor Jackie Grimmett and the Rev. James Walker officiating. He will be laid to rest in Stewart Cemetery, Matheny.
Friends may gather with the family for visitation 6 to 9 p.m. today at Stafford Family Funeral Home, Lynco.
Pallbearers will be Andrew Reed, Charles May-nor, Todd Lester, Wayne Bailey, Randy Lee, John Bradford and Jonathon Bailey.

James Robert ‘Bob’ Gentry
SCARBRO — James Robert “Bob” Gentry, 69, of Scarbro, died Sunday, Aug. 17, 2008, at UVA Medical Center in Charlottesville, Va.
Born Nov. 18, 1938, at Scarbro, he was the son of the late Howard and Lois Wilmer Gentry.
Bob was a retired architectural draftsman for Mullins Construction of Oak Hill and Gates Engineering of Beckley.
He was a member of the Gentry Baptist Church, Sanger, W.Va.
Survivors include his wife, Norma Smith Gentry; and a sister, Brenda Harrah and husband, Gerald, of Covington, Ga.
Service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the Gentry Baptist Church in Sanger with the Rev. Bill Drennen officiating. Burial will be at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill.
Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today at Tyree Funeral Home.

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS — Michael Gregory Godfrey, 44, died in an automobile accident Sunday morning, Aug. 17, 2008, on Interstate 64 East near the Crows exit.
Service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at the Chapel of Shanklin Funeral Home, White Sulphur Springs. Burial will follow in the Greenhill Cemetery, White Sulphur Springs.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Richard ‘Dick’ Lowe
KINGSPORT, Tenn. — Richard “Dick” Lowe, 61, of 112 Scotland Road, Kingsport, died early Monday afternoon, Aug. 18, 2008, at his home.
Born in Chattaroy, W.Va., he was a graduate of Williamson High School in Williamson, W.Va.
Dick was a graduate of Capital City Business College in Charleston, W.Va., and completed his Masters Degree in Divinity at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va. He pastored numerous Baptist churches in West Virginia, and had lived in Kingsport for the last 20 years.
He was preceded in death by a son, Stephen Michael Lowe; and his father, Roscoe E. Lowe.
Surviving are his wife, Katherine Kane Lowe of Kingsport; three sons, Richard Ellsworth Lowe Jr. and wife, Missy, of Raleigh, N.C., James Gavin Lowe and wife, LeAnn, of Beckley, and Joshua Andrew Lowe of Johnson City, Tenn.; a stepdaughter, Sarah Pippin and husband, Blair, of Orlando, Fla.; six grandchildren, Rich, Ashlyn, Ryan, J.R., Zachary, and Hunter Lowe; one stepgrandson, Aiden Pippin; his mother and stepfather, Nellie Gearhart Wright and Leonard Wright of Beckley; one brother, John Lowe and wife, LaCreda, of Maryville, Tenn.; and his beloved dog, Riley.
The family will receive friends 5 to 7 p.m. today at Higher Ground Baptist Church. Funeral service will follow 7 p.m. today at the church with Dr. Phil Hoskins officiating. Burial will be 1 p.m. Thursday at the East Lawn Memorial Park, Kingston.

Charles Curtis Redden
MEADOW BRIDGE — Charles Curtis Redden, 64, of Patterson Mountain, Meadow Bridge, passed away Sunday, Aug. 17, 2008, at his home following a short illness.
Born on May 11, 1944, at Rainelle, he was the son of the late Paulis Claude Redden and Elizabeth Ford Redden of Patterson Mountain, Meadow Bridge.
Charles was a gifted stone mason. He served in the U.S. Army and served in the Vietnam Conflict, where he received a Purple Heart. Charles was a member of the Springdale Baptist Church and he loved his children, the mountains and his work.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Joshua; and a granddaughter, Angela.
Along with his mother, Elizabeth Redden, Charles is survived by his wife, Ella Regina “Judy” King Redden; two sons, Alan “Chief” Redden and wife, Tammy, and Curtis Redden and Becky, all of Meadow Bridge; two daughters, Vanessa Shuler and Janet Marie Mobillian; two stepsons, Sonny James Horney and wife, Carol, of Peterstown and Billy Joe King and wife, Delvia, of Alderson; a stepdaughter, Michelle Tincher and husband, James, of Christiansburg, Va.; eight brothers, Paulis Redden and wife, Kay, of Austin, Texas, Allen Redden and wife, Donna, of Lewisburg, Stephen Redden and wife, Marsha, of Layland, Stewart Redden and wife, Sandra, of Kerneysville, N.C., Tommy Redden of Montgomery, Mark Redden and wife, Marilyn, of Williamsburg, Va., Teddy Redden of Springdale and David Redden of Roberts, Wis.; two sisters, Miriam Ross of Johnstown, Ill., and Nora Hiser and husband, Danny, of Lilly Park, Rainelle; nine grandchildren, Kristen, Alex, Ally and Shaely Redden, all of Meadow Bridge, Sammy, Candice, Winter, Tyler and Cory; eight stepgrandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Smathers Funeral Chapel, with Pastor Steve Martin officiating. Burial will follow in the Wallace Memorial Cemetery, Clintonville.

Dolores Ann Noroskey Rush
CHESAPEAKE, Va. — Dolores Ann Noroskey Rush, 82, formerly of Oak Hill, passed away Saturday, Aug. 16, 2008, at the Maryview Nursing Center, Suffolk, Va., where she had resided for 13 years.
A memorial service will be 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 24, 2008, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 2820 Galberry Road, Chesapeake, Va.

Sarah Shrewsbury
On Friday, Aug. 15, 2008, surrouded by those she cherished and loved, Sarah Shrewsbury passed away peacefully at the home of her daughter, Daisy Meadows Studley, in Orlando, Fla. She was in her 87th year.
Born Sarah Bell Hewlett on April 3, 1921, at Whipple, she was one of five children born to the late James W. and Daisy Souder Hewlett. Her sister, Margaret Hewlett, and brothers, James and the Rev. Leonard Hewlett, also preceded her in death.
A long time resident of North Oakwood Avenue in Beckley, Sarah was a member of the First Baptist Church, 422 Neville Street, where she had been a member of the Friendship Sunday School Class. She had been a receptionist for Raleigh General Hospital and the Charles House Motel. Sarah was a volunteer at the VA hospital. She held life memberships in the Pioneer Telephone Company and the Beckley Elks.
In addition to her family, Sarah was preceded in death by her husbands, William H. Meadows in 1955, and Benton D. Shrewsbury in 1971.
Sarah will be remembered by her family as a kind and gentle mother, a sweet grandmother, a fond sister, a dear niece and a friend to many people. They recall with fondness her cooking abilities, cakes and homemade pies, her jellies and jams. Sarah loved to garden; her prized tomatoes were featured in The Register-Herald several years ago for their tremendous height.
In addition to her daughter, Daisy, and her husband, Warren, of Orlando, she is survived by her daughter, Mary Bell Meadows Moore and husband, Allen, of Danville, Va.; her sister, Wanda Hughes; and her aunt, Floretta Souder Smith, both of Beckley; six grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Thursday in the Melton Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Phil Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunset Memorial Park in Beckley. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service. Family members and friends will serve as pallbearers.
The family suggests donations of sympathy be made to the First Baptist Church, 422 Neville Street, Beckley, WV 25801 or the Hospice of the Comforter, 480 West Central Parkway, Altamonte, Springs, FL 32714.
