Ruth Ann Arrington

OAK HILL — Ruth Ann Arrington, 71, of Oak Hill, passed away Sunday, Aug. 17, 2008, at home following a brave battle with leukemia.

Born on Nov. 16, 1936, at Kimberly, she was the daughter of the late Mamie Hess and stepdaughter of the late Daniel Canterbury.

Mrs. Arrington attended the First Baptist Church at Scarbro and worked in area department stores. She was a very giving and unselfish person, and an inspiration to all who knew her. Her favorite times were spent at the beach with her family. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Jesse Arrington, on Sept. 29, 2003.

Left to cherish her memory include her son, Duane Arrington of Crab Orchard; two daughters, Evona Miller and husband Tom of Fayetteville, and Teresa Gray and husband Teddy of Oak Hill; and three grandchildren, Tommy Munoz, Lauren Munoz, and Colby Gray.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 21, 2008, at the Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home Chapel, Fayetteville, with Associate Pastor Rev. Kenny Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

The family will receive friends one hour before the funeral at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.

Janey Pauline Bolen

Janey Pauline Bolen, age 93, died Saturday, Aug. 16, 2008, at Raleigh General Hospital.

Born April 16, 1915, she was the daughter of the late John Spencer and Sarah Elizabeth Taylor Martin.

Janey married Woodie Bolen on Dec. 31, 1939. Woodie died Aug. 30, 1961. She lived and worked in Washington, D.C., and moved to California in the 1970s and worked until retirement and moved into the Manor House Apartments in Beckley. She had many friends at the Manor House and lived there for approximately 25 years. She loved going to church service, dinners, and special events at the Manor House.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Clyde, Hansford, Clarence and John (Bud) Martin; four sisters, Elizabeth Martin, Anna Bell Martin, May Brown, and Clara Davis.

She leaves behind many friends and lots of nephews and nieces who looked on her as a second mother.

Services will be held 2 p.m. (today) Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2008, at Blue Ridge Funeral Home with Rev. Erick Milam officiating. Entombment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.

MARLINTON — Bernard Broyles, 74, died Sunday, Aug. 17, 2008.

Service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the VanReenen Funeral Home, Marlinton. Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Russell Bee Gadd

TRUE — Russell Bee Gadd, 81, of True, died Saturday, Aug. 16, 2008, at the VA Medical Center in Beckley, following a long illness.

He was born Jan. 25, 1927, at Bertha in Summers County, to the late Noah and Beatrice Gore Gadd.

Russell was a World War II U.S. Army veteran. He was a retired Tool and Die Maker for Remington Rand Corporation in Marietta, Ohio. He was a former member of the Parkersburg Masonic Lodge and was currently a member of the Hinton Masonic Lodge #62 A.F. & A.M.

An avid outdoorsman who particularly enjoyed deer hunting and fishing, Russell loved life and, although he was retired, he never quit working. He was of the Baptist Faith and enjoyed gospel music.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers and one sister.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 60 years, Virginia Farley Gadd at home; a daughter, Caroline Powell and husband J.C. of Charleston; a grandson, Talbot Powell of Charleston; three brothers, including his twin, Robert Gadd and wife Ennis of Elgood, Lotus Gadd of Frederick, Md., and Rhodolphus Gadd of Athens; six sisters, Dorothy Epling of Hilldale, Daisy Jones of Beckley, Vada Igo of Charleston, Nadine McClaughlin of Weirton, Zula Patterson of Bluefield, and Anna Faye Werney of Virginia; a special neph-ew, Jason Epling and wife Shirley of Hilldale; a special friend, Mike Griffith; and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Russell’s life will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2008, at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel, with Pastor Jim Martin officiating. Burial will follow in the Roselawn Memorial Gardens at Princeton.

Friends may call at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors in Hinton from 6 to 8 p.m. (today) Tuesday.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

CMSgt. Oliver V. (O.V.) Lilly Jr.

CMSgt. Oliver V. (O.V.) Lilly Jr., Air Force retired, passed away late Saturday evening, Aug. 16, 2008, at his home in Goldsboro, N.C.

O.V. is survived by his wife of 58 years, Helen; his daughter, Dianna Mancuso of Cypress, Texas; and his son, Glenn Lilly of Meadow Bridge, W.Va. He is also survived by his sister, Lorrene Wilcox of Shady Spring, and his brother, Don Lilly of Jacksonville, Fla.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Sue Bowling and Oliver V. Lilly Sr. Also were brothers, Sterling and Earl, and his sister, Josephine.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2008, at Calfee Funeral Home, Beckley. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum, Beckley. Military honors will be conducted by the Oak Hill VFW Post 3110.

The family requests donations may be made to a charity of choice.

Pastor Jack McGuire

BY HIS STRIPES HE IS HEALED! On Sunday, Aug. 17, 2008, our loving husband, dad, pa-paw, brother, pastor and friend, Jackie Lee McGuire, 55, of Victor went to the arms of Jesus-His father at Summersville Memorial Hospital following an apparent heart attack.

Born Feb. 23, 1953, at Pax, he was the son of the late Basil John McGuire and Dolly Rachel Workman McGuire.

Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Karen Kay McKinney McGuire Naylor.

He was the pastor of Believers Under Grace Worship Center, Edmond, and an employee of Fayette County Board of Education where he was a school bus driver on Bus No. 981.

Pastor Jack enjoyed fishing on his boat, spending time with his family, going to church, reading his Bible, but most of all preaching God’s word so that lost souls would come to know Jesus as their Savior.

Survivors include his wife of 17 years, Debrah Kay McGuire; two sons, Jason Lee McGuire and wife Hannah of Marshville, N.C., and Michael Shawn McGuire and wife Tandy of Edmond; one daughter, Melissa Kay Herron and husband Jackie of Oak Hill; one stepson, John Paul Ellison and wife Annette of Winona; one stepdaughter, Judy Janette Herron and husband Virgil of Oak Hill; three grandsons, Christian McGuire, Nathan and Brandon Herron; seven stepgrandchildren, Melanie, Jayme, Jill and Julie Gray, Dillon Syner, Jarred and Daniel Ellison; four brothers, Randy McGuire and wife Orie, Danny McGuire and wife Drema of Oak Hill, Terry McGuire and wife Cathy of Fayetteville, and John McGuire and wife Lynn of Gatewood Road; four sisters, Jane Miller of Gatewood Road, Donna McGuire Tanner and husband Donald of Ocala, Fla., Brenda Gay Hicks and Belinda McGuire of Franklin, N.C.; one uncle, Clinton McGuire and wife Barbara of Ansted; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and family.

A celebration of his life will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 21, 2008, at Believers Under Grace Worship Center, Edmond, with Rev. Randy McGuire, Rev. Virgil Herron and Jack’s children officiating. Burial will follow at the McGuire Family Cemetery, Willis Road at Victor.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2008, at the church.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Summersville Memorial Hospital emergency room for their hospitality, support, and extra efforts. Also, thank you to all the people who prayed and we ask that you keep on praying and keep on believing.

Ellen Lenore Hundley Krise Moore

CHARLESTON — Ellen Lenore Hundley Krise Moore, 65, of Charleston, formerly of Victor, left this world to be with the Lord on Aug. 17, 2008. She left peacefully, surrounded by her family.

She was born Aug. 15, 1943, at Hico, W.Va., and was the daughter of Homer and Delphine Hundley.

Ellen was a 1962 graduate of Ansted High School; she was formerly employed as a buyer for Hawks Nest State Park gift shop of Ansted.

She was preceded in death by sisters, Theresa Lynn and Stephanie Robin Hundley; grandparents, Marvin and Gladys Sewell and Norway and Emma Hundley; and her first husband and father of her children, John Eugene Krise.

She is survived by her husband, Robert L. Moore of Charleston; parents, Delphine and Homer Hundley of Victor; daughter April and husband, Bill Moses of Victor; son, Gene and wife, Angie Krise of Fayetteville; daughter Stephanie and husband, Brad Alexander of Newton, N.C., and stepson, Bill Moore of Charleston; grandchildren, Brandi Moses Neal, Sean Eugene Moses, Hunter and Aaron Krise, Heather and Colt Alexander, Amber and Brooke Moore; great-grandchildren, Austin Neal and Noah Weeks; her Mother-in-law, Edna E. Moore of South Charleston; Sisters, Kay and husband, Charles Parks of Covington, Va., Linda and husband, Larry Shaffer of Newton, N.C., and Patty and husband, Jim Bickford of Ansted; and brother MSgt. Allen (serving in Iraq) and wife, Lynn Hundley of Reisterstown, Md.; nieces and nephews, Laura Dempsey and Ellen Baker; James and David Richards; Cyndi Howell, Floyd Rose and Kay Rose; Jennifer, Zachary and Jared Hundley; and a host of loving aunts, uncles, cousins and friends and her faithful companion, Harry, the dog.

The family will receive friends from 12 noon to the time of the funeral at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2008, at Wallace & Wallace funeral home chapel in Ansted. Burial will follow in Haynes Chapel Cemetery at Hico.

The family would like to thank the staff at St. Francis Hospital, especially ICU, for their care of Ellen and their unfailing courtesy and sympathy to us in her final hours.

Phyllis Jean Moore

Phyllis Jean Moore, age 59, of Blue Jay Six Road, Cool Ridge, passed away Sunday, Aug. 17, 2008, at her home, where she resided with her mother Evelyn Marshall Richmond Davidson and stepfather, Donald Davidson. Her death was after a long illness.

Born on July 24, 1949, at Shady Spring, she had made her home in Cool Ridge, since 1993, having lived a great number of years in Ohio.

Phyllis was of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by her father, David Richmond.

Other survivors include a son, Roger Lee Moore Jr. and wife, Christine, of Boardman, Ohio; a daughter, Lori Kay Rabish of Ravenna, Ohio; five grandchildren; and two brothers, David Daniel Richmond of Shady Spring, and the Rev. Roger Dale Richmond and wife, Dora, of Shady Spring.

Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home Shady Spring Chapel with the Rev. Ernest Calfee Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Ricky Clark, Donald Carl Richmond, Aubrey Marshall, Gary Marshall, Allen Marshall, and Roger Richmond Jr.

MEADOW BRIDGE — Charles Curtis Redden, 64, of Patterson Mountain, passed away Sunday, Aug. 17, 2008, at his home following a short illness.

Timothy Ray ‘Timbo’ Zimmerman

HINTON — Timothy Ray “Timbo” Zimmerman, 49, of Hinton, went home to be with the Lord 12:10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 18, 2008, at the Summers County Appalachian Regional Hospital following a long illness.

Born April 12, 1959, at Hinton, he was the son of the late Drema Lee Zimmerman. Timbo received the Lord Jesus Christ as his Savior on Aug. 16, 2008. Pastor Lawrence Bennett and his nephew Joseph Lilly had the privilege of leading Timbo to the Lord.

He worked in the construction industry until injury stopped his career. Loved his family and enjoyed being around all his nieces and nephews, liked to read and watching the history channel on television.

Preceded in death by two brothers, Ronnie and Scott Zimmerman.

Survived by six sisters, Diane Garten and companion Ivan Reed of Hinton, Tammie Zimmerman of Alderson, Tonya Lilly and husband Randy of Hinton, Sue Zimmerman and husband Steve of Brunswick, Md., Darlene Smith and husband Samuel of Hinton and Misty Meadows of Hinton; two brothers, Donnie Zimmerman and wife Terri and Jerry “Chip” Zimmerman both of Hinton; several nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 21, 2008, at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel with Pastor Lawrence Bennett officiating. Burial will follow in the Upland Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral parlors.

Nephews will serve as pallbearers.
