Larry L. Bennett
Larry L. Bennett, 58, of Cool Ridge, passed away Friday, July 11, 2008.
Born Oct. 12, 1949, at Hinton, he was the son of the late Lundy M. and Gladys Lucille Fox Bennett.
Larry loved drag racing, dirt track racing, boating, and fishing. He was a member of St. Francis DeSales Catholic Church and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by an infant brother, and a member of his extended family, “James” Athol Atkins.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 29 years, Kathleen Bennett of Cool Ridge; a son, Mark Bennett and wife, Debbie, of Dallas, N.C.; four grandchildren, Jerry, Sam-antha, Sarah, and Josh; sister, Bernice Upton and husband, Kyle, of Daniels and their children, Heath and Matthew; sister, Barbara Hurley and husband, Dave, of Clendenin and their children, Christy, Ashley, and great-niece, Cadence; goddaughter, Kalyn Combetty of Boston, Pa.; and extended family, Atholene (Atkins) Smith and husband, Dave Smith, and Ashley Smith of Matthews, N.C. Larry loved his many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Services will be 4 p.m. Tuesday, July 15, 2008, at St. Frances De Sales Catholic Church, with Monsignor Samuel Sacus officiating.
Friends may gather with the family from 3 p.m. until time of service at the church.
The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations of sympathy be made to the Hilltop Nursing Center, Box 125, Hilltop, WV 25855.

Sarah Dove
Sarah Frances Dove, 80, of Beaver, passed peacefully from this life on Saturday, July 12, 2008, at home with her family by her side.
Sarah was born on Nov. 20, 1927, in Hinton, and was the daughter of the late Albert Thurmond and Virginia Alice Moye Pack.
She was a member of Mabscott Holiness Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Milton H. Dove; a sister, Virginia Richmond; a brother, Vernon Pack; a granddaughter, Stacey Deeds; and a grandson, Michael Deeds.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Alice Keller and husband Ernest G. “Buzz” of Beckley, Rick Deeds and wife Beverly of Hinton, and Cathy LeGrand and husband Joe of Beaver. She will also be sadly missed by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Ernie Keller and wife Michele (Zac and Zane), Grace Pack and husband John (Kristan and Zack), Brandon Carag and wife Ashlei (Emalei, Adrian, and Isabella), Amanda Thomas and husband Jason, Morgan Plumley, and Alexis Deeds. Sarah is also survived by stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren, Misty Sigler (Heather and Hunter), Jeremy Sigler, Kelly Irvin and husband Adam (Elizabeth), Beth Brewster and husband Cliff (Jarred, Hunter, Kole, and Tucker), and Rickey Smith and wife April (Rickey and Sandy).
In addition to her immediate family, Sarah leaves behind her brother, Ernest Pack of Cleveland, Ohio; sister, Mary Agnes Richmond of Beaver; brother, Clarence Pack and wife Eileen of Beaver; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Services will be Tuesday, July 15, at 1 p.m., in the Mabscott Holiness Church, with Brother Eddie Tucker officiating. Burial will follow in the Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the church.
Pallbearers will be her nephews, Donald Richmond, Bill Richmond, Ronald Richmond, Layfon Lilly, Frank Pack, and Roger Pack.

Erma E. Horrocks
WINONA — Erma E. Horrocks, 89, of Winona, passed away Friday, July 11, 2008, at her residence in Winona, following a short illness.
She was a daughter of the late Lee and Mary Markham Carte. She was born Sept. 5, 1918, in Clifftop, W.Va.
Erma was preceded in death by her husband, Charles E. Horrocks Sr.; a son, Charles Jr.; a stillborn son, Johnny Ray; three grandsons, Barry and Jeffrey Pridemore, and Dennis Ellis; a sister, Stella Carte; two brothers, Johnny Carte and Theodore “Chick” Carte; and paternal grandparents, John and Rose Wright Carte.
She was a homemaker and a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother.
Those left behind to love and cherish her memory are daughters, Frances Pridemore, Ramona Ellis, and Sandra Pridemore, all of Winona, Elizabeth McQuerrey and husband Jennings of Norfolk, Va., and Kass Jones and husband Mark of Edmond; stepdaughter, Ruby Endo of Strongsville, Ohio; sons, Robert and wife Terri, Tommy and wife Nancy, and Edward, all of Winona, and Terry and wife Tracey of Edmond; 24 grandchildren; nine stepgrandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; 12 stepgreat-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. today at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home Chapel in Ansted, with Pastor Mike Loudermilk officiating. Burial will follow in Restlawn Memory Gardens in Victor.
Pallbearers will be her two sons, Robert and Terry Horrocks, and four grandsons, Robert Ellis, Christopher Pridemore, Brian McQuerrey, and Ernie Horrocks.
Wallace & Wallace of Ansted is in charge of the arrangements.

MIDWAY — Veronica L. Howerton, 54, of Midway, died Saturday, July 12, 2008, after being involved in a motorcycle accident.

Dorothy Faye Lilly
NIMITZ — Dorothy Faye Lilly, 61, of Nimitz, went home to heaven Saturday morning, July 12, 2008, after a very short illness.
Born April 25, 1947, at Nimitz, she was the daughter of the late Robert Waldo “Darrell” and Macie Clara Lilly, and had lived all of her life at Nimitz.
She was a member of the Glen Morgan Missionary Baptist Church where she never missed a service. Dorothy loved Jesus and everyone she met. She enjoyed gospel singing especially the Gaithers. She was a rather special person who touched the lives of everyone who knew her.
Preceded in death by a brother, Robert “Bobby” Dale Lilly.
Dorothy is survived by her brother, Eddie Dan Lilly of Nimitz; two aunts, Jenny Lee Ellison of Nimitz and Nellie Jo Mason of Hinton; a nephew, Robert Michael Lilly; and several cousins. Vanessa Clinebell, Dorothy’s closest friend and caregiver, and Pastor Junior Moye, who was a constant friend and help over many years, will miss her presence in their lives.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 15, 2008, at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel, with Pastors William “Junior” Hamm, Ernie “Junior” Moye, and Grayson Lilly officiating. Burial will follow in the Lilly-Crews Cemetery at Nimitz.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors.
Dean Backus, Leslie Farley, Bob Cook, David Clinebell, Jim Allen, Rocky Mansfield, Tommy Mansfield, and Stanley Perdue will serve as pallbearers. Dr. Stanley Day and John Mark Ellison will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Reed Orndorff
PARMA, Ohio — Reed Orndorff, born Oct. 4, 1934, at Carl, W.Va., to the late Owen and Bessie (McClung) Orndorff, went to be with his Lord and Master on July 13, 2008.
Beloved husband of Ruth (Spence) for 48 1/2 years; loving father of Regina (Marty) Tisdale, Dareus (Catina), and Camille Orndorff; cherished grandfather of Arwen, Demetrius, and Aiyana; loving brother of Audrace (the late Grigg) Mattison, Elden (Emma), Glendon (Hope), and Wyldon (Wanda); and brother-in-law of Hilda White (the late Gilmer).
He was a devoted son-in-law, uncle, great-uncle, and friend.
He proudly served in the Army from 1957-59. He worked for General Motors for 35 years and Forest City Enterprises part-time for 30 years.
Services will be held at Carl Baptist Church (W.Va.) at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 15, 2008, officiated by Gerald Kelley. Burial to follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Carl Baptist Church, c/o Rev. Houston Boothe, at HC-63 Box 1-G, Quinwood, WV 25981.

Rexall E. Shepherd
Rexall E. Shepherd, 82, of Stanaford, born Aug. 27, 1925, departed this life on Saturday, July 12, 2008.
Born at Danese, he was the son of the late Ernest Franklin Shepherd and Sarah Fleshman Shepherd.
Mr. Shepherd was retired from the C&O Railroad where he was employed for 20 years, and was also a truck driver for Kirby Lumber for 15 years. Mr. Shepherd was of the Baptist Faith.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, June Rebecca McMillion Shepherd; three brothers, Earl Shepherd of Lanark, Mason Shepherd of California, and Jason Fleshman of Ohio; five children, Rex Allen Shepherd and wife, Theresa, of Piney View, Arnold Shepherd and wife, Charlotte, of Layland, Tammy Hill and husband, David J., of North Carolina, David Shepherd and wife, Rhonda, of Layland, and Mike Shepherd and wife, Angie, of Beckley; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a lot of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Services will be 12 o’clock noon Tuesday, July 15, 2008, at Blue Ridge Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Curtis England officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.
Grandsons and sons-in-law will be serving as pallbearers.

Jaroe ‘Jack’ Thomas
MOUNT NEBO — Jaroe “Jack” Thomas, 82, of Mount Nebo, passed away on Friday, July 11, 2008, at his daughter’s home in Cumming, Ga., after a long illness. All Jack’s family and his brother-in-law, Jimmy, and sister-in-law, Frances, were with him at the time.
Jack was a retired coal miner from Westmoreland Coal Company.
He was born on Feb. 21, 1926, and was preceded in death by his grandson, Matthew David Thomas, in 2002. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Christopher Newman Thomas and Ethel Elizabeth Wills Thomas; and siblings, Genevieve, Oakey, Dolly, Karoe, Woodrow, Medroe, Lottie, Monroe, Pedroe, Jessie, Allroe, and Bessie.
Jack is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Mary Hellems Thomas; his beloved daughter, Ruth of Cumming, Ga.; sons, Jackie and his wife Nancy of Loganville, Ga., Ronnie and his wife Tammy of Buford, Ga., and Danny of Cumming, Ga.; a sister, Tessie Workman and her husband Flavie of Summersville, W.Va.; and grandchildren, Jackie Thomas II and his wife Sandy, Tracy Daniels and her husband Blake, Brandon Thomas and his wife Melissa, and Ashley Thomas. Jack is also survived by four great-grandchildren, Jacob, MacKenzie, Emma, and Dylan; and several nieces and nephews.
He was a Christian and attended Spruce Grove United Methodist Church.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today with services being held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, July 15, 2008. Both will be held at Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home in Rainelle, W.Va., with the Rev. Tommy Mounts officiating. Burial will follow in Wallace Memorial Cemetery, Clintonville.
