Theo Basil Adkins
Theo Basil Adkins, age 80, of Meadow Creek, W.Va., died Thursday, July 3, 2008, at the Raleigh Center at Daniels, following a short illness.
Born at Abraham, W.Va., on March 18, 1928, he was the son of the late Basil K. and Dora Smith Adkins.
Mr. Adkins was a retired clerk for the C&O Railroad, and was a member of the Maxwell Hill Baptist Church in Beckley. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
He was a devoted family man, having enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a lifelong resident of Meadow Creek.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Rachel Smith Adkins; two daughters, Elaine Harris and husband, Wyatt, of Coal City, and Debra Bowles and husband, Bill, of Beckley; a brother, Hobert Adkins and wife, Rose, of Meadow Creek; four grandchildren, Rachel Stover and husband, “Rod,” of Saxon, W.Va., Tarah Bowles Hepburn of Sterling, Va., Israel Harris and wife, Summer, of Charlotte, N.C., and Rebekah Mills and husband, Jim, of Coal City; and three great-grandchildren, Luke Stover, Ethan and Cheyenne Harris.
Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at the Maxwell Hill Baptist Church, 301 Teel Road, Beckley, W.Va., with Pastor Ken Killen and Pastor Matt White officiating. Burial will follow in Restwood Memorial Gardens, Hinton.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today, Saturday, at the church.
Pallbearers will be Jim Hodges, Eugene Jones, Gary Dillon, Bill Roop, Jim Mills, Rod Stover and Luke Stover.
Honorary pallbearers will be Harry Smith and Lowell Cawley.

Jaiden Mackinsey Bailey
OCEANA — Jaiden Mackinsey Bailey, 3, received her angel wings Thursday, July 3, 2008.
Born April 11, 2005, in Beckley, she was the daughter of Raymond “Eugene” and Miranda Belcher Bailey.
Jaiden attended Promise Land Church. Our “little bit” miracle always had a smile for everyone. Now as she smiles from heaven she will be missed by all who knew her.
Jaiden was preceded in death by her paternal great-grandparents, Earl and Eloise Bailey; paternal great-grandfather, Raymond Miller; and maternal great-grandfather, Charles Lindy Belcher.
Those left to cherish her memory are her parents, Eugene and Miranda Bailey of Oceana; paternal grandparents, Gene and Sherry Lynn Bailey of Cedar Creek; maternal grandparents, Charles and Diane Belcher of Oceana; paternal great-grandparents, Bob and Mary Ellen Beall of Alexandria, Va.; and maternal great-grandparents, Anna and Virgil Sizemore of Lynco; maternal great-grandmother, Verda Belcher; an aunt, Melissa Hatfield and her husband, Nick, of Oceana; two cousins, Tamara and Caden Hatfield.
A celebration of Jaiden’s life will be 1 p.m. Sunday, July 6, 2008, with Rev. David Johnson and James Hamilton officiating. Burial will follow in Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny.
Casketbearers will be family and friends.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, July 5, 2008, at the funeral home.

OCEANA — Robert “Bob” H. Bailey, 77, of Oceana, passed away Thursday, July 3, 2008, at his residence following a short but courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his loving family.

KOPPERSTON — Kimberly Lou “Kim” Hargis Bartram, 35, of Kopperston, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 2, 2008, surrounded by her loving family at her home following a long illness.

Services will be 1 p.m. Monday, July 7, 2008, at Rhema Christian Center, Fairlea, with Revs. Nelson E. Staples III, Greg Scott, Kevin Carpenter and Ella Dorsey officiating. Larry R. Brewer I
ANSTED — Larry R. Brewer I, 58, of Ansted, passed away on Tuesday, July 2, 2008, at CAMC Memorial in Charleston following a long illness.
Born Jan. 25, 1950, at Bulan, Ky., he was the son of the late Elza Morton and Gertrude Williams Brewer.
Larry was of the Protestant faith. He was a disabled American veteran who served two tours in Vietnam with the Army.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Elza M. Brewer Jr., and a sister, Mary J. Westfall.
Survivors include his sons, Larry R. Brewer II and wife, Elaine, of Charleston and Billy Brewer of Georgia; three grandchildren, Larry R. Brewer III, Christian Brewer, and Brittany Brewer; one brother, Gregory Brewer and wife, Roberta, of Ansted; three sisters, Barbara Dove and husband, Guy, of Fulks Run, Va., Carol McCallister of Hemet, Calif., and Patricia Minor and husband, Bob, of St. Cloud, Fla.
Services will be 1 p.m. Monday, July 7, 2008, at Wallace & Wallace Chapel in Ansted with Rev. JoAnn Treadway officiating. Burial will follow in Restlawn Memorial Gardens at Victor, W.Va. Military graveside rites will be performed by the Ansted VFW.
Pallbearers will be Bill and Pete Caudill, Gary Crist, Mike Hottinger, Dale Brewer, and Gary Bill.

Corey Scott Ramsey
HOT SPRINGS, Va. — Corey Scott Ramsey, 22 years of age, of Hot Springs, formerly of Summersville, died Tuesday, July 1, 2008, in Roanoke, Va.
He was the son of Ruth Ramsey McMillion of Summersville and William Hiner Jr. of Hot Springs, Va., and was born in Summersville on May 7, 1986.
He was a construction worker and a 2004 graduate of Nicholas County High School.
Corey was captain of the NCHS football team in his senior season. He will always be loved and remembered for the smile he brought to family and friends.
Surviving besides his parents are a brother and sister, Seth and Beth McMillion of Summersville; his stepfather, Richard McMillion of Summersville; paternal grandmother, Barbara Hiner of Hot Springs; and half brother, Aaron Hiner.
Services will be 4 p.m. Monday, July 7, 2008, at the Waters Funeral Chapel in Summersville.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. on Monday at the funeral chapel.

OAK HILL — Margaret Rosalie Shoemaker, 59, of Oak Hill, died Wednesday, July 2, 2008, at Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital, Beckley, following a short illness.
Born Dec. 6, 1948, in Rainelle, she was the daughter of the late Lake T. Shoemaker Sr. and Elizabeth Callison Shoemaker.
Margaret was a veteran and a member of Meadow Grove Baptist Church. She resided at the Kate Boone Personal Care Home at Oak Hill.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth Ann Will-iams.
Survivors include three sisters, Mary K. Helmick of Springdale, Jackalee Palmer of Havelock, N.C., and Debby S. Holbrook of King George, Va.; two brothers, Lake T. Shoemaker Jr. of Springdale and Charles T. Shoemaker of Rainelle; 12 nephews and nieces, Victoria Lynn Baxley, Karen Sue Helmick, Amanda Scroggins, Jeffrey Palmer, Amy Elizabeth Harris, Jonathan Holbrook, Andrew Holbrook, Stephen Holbrook, Christa Holbrook, Nicholas Shoemaker, Patrick Shoemaker, and Leslie Shoemaker; four great-nephews, Davey Scroggins, Brandon Chlastawo, Matthew Scott Harris, and Andrew Shoemaker.
The family would like to thank the nursing staff of the Kate Boone Personal Care Home for all of the compassionate care they provided for Margaret. Your kindness is greatly appreciated.

Beatrice Kathleen Pennington-Williams ‘Maw Bea’
Beatrice Kathleen Pennington-Williams “Maw Bea,” 83, of Daniels, came into this world Sept. 17, 1924, born to Roy and Mae Stover Pennington of Eccles.
This “Special Angel” entered into her Savior’s Arms of peace and comfort Thursday, July 3, 2008, with her loving family surrounding her in love and grace.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Don Shelton Williams; her only son, Don Jr.; a brother, Robert; a sister, Annie; and a great-grandson, Jonathon.
Those left to cherish her precious memories of Maw include her daughters, Carol Erickson and husband, Harold, of Texas, Brenda Redden and husband, Vincent, of Grandview, Drema Sweeney and husband, Daymon, of Beckley, and Kathleen Ewing and husband, Russell, of Georgia. Maw raised her children on her own, with great pride following the passing of her husband. The youngest 11 months and the oldest 9 years of age. She was an admiral mother, proud grandmother of 22 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren. Brother, Woody Pennington and wife, Ethel, of Beckley; sister-in-law, Wanda Atha of Ohio; and numerous nieces, nephews.
She was a dedicated member of the Light House Baptist Church in Daniels. She was a blessing to anyone who ever heard her sing.
Friends may gather with the family from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, July 5, 2008, at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley.
