Cindy Lilly Mahurin
“She has a strong heart.” The nurse speaking had known her only days, but a truer statement about Cindy was never uttered. It was Cindy’s brave heart, courageous spirit and concern for her loved ones that kept her fighting a 26-month battle with lung cancer. Even as her body wasted, her heart remained strong; on the first day of July her body finally succumbed setting her spirit free.
She was born on June 16, 1959, in Beckley but has lived the past 20 years in the Lake Norman area and worked for the city of Charlotte’s Utilities Department for most of that time. She loved motorcycle rides with “her honey”; holidays with family, laughs with friends and pride in her children colored her life. Through good times and hard times, her heart remained strong.
Cindy is survived in this life by her devoted husband, JW Mahurin of Mooresville; two loving children, Jen Wilson, 30, of Charlotte, Dave Wilson, 26, of Denver; parents, Bob and Patty Lilly of Coal City; brother, Roger Lilly and wife, Karen, of Coal City; sister, Sandy Bowling and husband, Richard, of Nimitz; nieces and nephews and countless friends and extended family. Though a void will be left, their hearts will remain strong.
Friends are invited to celebrate Cindy’s life on Tuesday, July 7, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home, Mooresville. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 11, at Cornerstone Freewill Baptist Church in Crab Orchard, W.Va., as it was her wish she be cremated.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Lake Norman, 705 Griffith Street, Suite 203, Davidson, NC 28036, and/or any cancer research or hospice in your area.
