Dorothy Worrell Brooks
SEMINOLE, Fla. — Dorothy Worrell Brooks, 91, of Seminole, passed away June 27, 2009.
Dorothy was born in Elkview, West Virginia, daughter of the late Okey Withrow and Effie Strickland Withrow.
She moved to Seminole in 1961 with her husband Carroll (1972) from Mullens, W.Va. Along with her husband, they owned Worrell of Toys. Dorothy married Emerson Brooks in 1988. She was a member of Seminole First Baptist Church; was an avid gardner and raised Monarch butterflies.
Dorothy is survived by her children, Carolyn Worrell, Carson City, Nev. and Tom Worrell, Miami, Fla.; brothers, Paul Withrow of Florida, Charles and Herb Withrow of West Virginia; sisters, Alvie Shafer and Mattie Shafer of West Virginia, and Marie Groot of Florida; many nieces and nephews and loving friends.
Dorothy touched many lives with her kindness and generosity.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. on Thursday at the Moss-Feaster Funeral Home Chapel, Largo, Fla.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Union Mission, P.O. Box 112, Charleston, WV 25321.

Edward D. ‘Ed’ Bryant
IAEGER — Edward D. "Ed" Bryant, 61, of Iaeger, passed away at the residence of his daughter Kelli Roberts on Sunday June 28, 2009.
Services will be 1 p.m. on Thursday July 2, 2009 at the House of Gethsemane, on Iaeger-Panther Road, with Pastor Kedar Hunt officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Charlie William Memorial Cemetery in Hanover, W.Va.
Friends may call after 5 p.m. at the church, today, Wednesday.

Virginia Faye Coleman
Virginia Faye “Jenny” Woolwine Lee Coleman, age 81, of Scarbro went home to be with her Lord, Monday, June 29, 2009 at her home at 11:41 a.m.
Born February 3, 1928 at Pax, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Lowe Woolwine and the late Chessie Woolwine Ellison (James) of Mt. Hope.
Jenny was a homemaker and was a member of the Cranberry Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her 1st husband Charles Lee of Marmet and 2nd husband Ray Coleman of Mossy; four brothers, Eugene Woolwine, Junior Woolwine, Lloyd Ellison, and James David Ellison, all of Mt. Hope.
Those left to cherish her memory include two daughters, Linda Lee Sheehan, and Charmaine Coleman Davis; one son Ronnie Coleman; four brothers, Lee Roy Ellison and wife Bobbie of Princeton; Jerry Ellison and wife Charlotte of Beckley, Mack Ellison and wife Dorothy of Maple Fork, and George Ellison and friend Terri of Mt. Hope; three sisters, Mary Edmonds of Maple Fork, Ruby Riley and husband Dave of Beckley, and Barbara Davis and husband Bill of Maple Fork; and a special friend, James Plumley; grandchildren, Daniel Sheehan of Dinwiddie, Va., Charles Sheehan and wife Vesna of Ripley, Vincent Sheehan and wife Kerensa of Midlothian, Va., Sandra Massey and husband Gene of Chester, Va., and James Davis of Beckley; great-grandchildren, William, Casey, Toni, Sophia, and James Jr.; special caregivers, Dave and Ruby Riley, Ashleigh Bragg, Suzanne Bragg, James Plumley, and a special thanks to Hospice Home Care.
Services will be held 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 2, 2009 at Cranberry Baptist Church with Pastor Roger E. Pauley and Pastor Robert Barley officiat-ing. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.
John Lovelace, Dean Lovelace, Allen Bragg, Austin Bragg, Daniel Sheehan, Vincent Sheehan, Mike Ellison, and Dave Caldwell will serve as pallbearers. Charles Sheehan, Chris Lovelace, Chad Lovelace, Dave Riley, James Plumley, and Bill Davis will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Andra Sue Gajdos
RAINELLE — Andra Sue Gajdos, 65, of Rainelle, died Sunday afternoon, June 28, 2009, at her home, following a short illness.
Born Feb. 23, 1944, at Rainelle, she was the daughter of the late Grover C. Ratliff and Elsie V. Lambert Ratliff.
She attended McRoss Baptist Church, graduated at Suitland, Md., and was a homemaker.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Andra D. Gajdos.
Survivors include four daughters, Tina Persinger and husband, David of Moneta, Va., Andra Lynn Gajdos of Lewisburg, Susan Bennett of Rainelle and Vanessa Bostic of Rainelle; two brothers, Jesse David Dean of Woodstock, Va., and John Benson Dean of Queen Creek, Ariz.; 13 grandchildren, Robert M. Mitchell, Allen S. Gajdos, Amanda M. Tharp, Autumn N. Bennett, Barbara S. Mitchell, Christapher A. Gajdos, Angela V. Bennett, David C. Persinger, Samuel E. Bostic Jr., Kristina A. Persinger, Andrew V. Bostic and Audra M. Gregg; and eight great-grandchildren.
Services will be 8 p.m. on Friday, July 3, 2009, at Wallace & Wallace Chapel, Rainelle, with Pastor Bennie L. Kenney officiating. Her ashes will be buried at a later date.
Friends may call 5 to 8 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.

Harry Ralph ‘Buck’ Hager
WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS — Harry Ralph “Buck” Hager, 84, passed away on Sunday, June 28, 2009.
There will be a visitation for family and friends on 6 to 8 p.m. today, Wednesday, July 1, 2009 at Shanklin Funeral Home.
A service and burial will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery in Cumberland, Maryland, at a later date.
Shanklin Funeral Home, White Sulphur Springs, is serving the family.
Richard Keith Mills
Richard Keith Mills, 66, of Beckley, formerly of Fayette County, died Sept. 2, 2008.
The family is planning a memorial services and entombment of the remains at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 4, 2009 at the family cemetery in Egeria.

MULLENS — Geoffrey Lee Perley, 77, died Sunday, June 28, 2009 in a Beckley hospital following a short illness.

GAP MILLS — E. G. Porterfield Jr., 80, of Gap Mills, passed away Friday morning, June 26, 2009 at Greenbrier Valley Medical Center in Fairlea.
Junior was born at Gap Mills, Nov. 18, 1928, a son of the late E. G. and Glenna Reed Porterfield Sr.
Junior was a farmer, served as Sheriff of Monroe County, superintendent of the former Andrew S. Rowan Home and Monroe County supervisor of the State Road before retiring as district supervisor of the State Road located in Lewisburg, WV., a member of Monroe Lodge No. 77 AF & AM at Union, Union Chapter No. 122 Order of the Eastern Star at Union and a Charter member of the Gap Mills Ruritan Club at Gap Mills.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Howard Porterfield.
Surviving is his daughter, Patricia (Trish) Nash and her husband, Jim of Huntington, W.Va., his grandson, Jeff Nash and his wife, Christi of Lexington, Ky.; two great grandchildren, Jake and Carson Nash of Lexington, Ky., a nephew, Jimmy Smith and his wife, Emily of Vine Grove, Ky.; two nieces, Kaye Smith Negri and her husband, Peter of Garden City, N.Y. and Ann Abbott of Louisville, Ky. Also surviving is a special friend, Lois Fullen of Union and two special first cousins, Margaret Lee Bland of Gap Mills and Harold Riley and his wife, Joan of Cleveland, Ga. ,and many other family and friends.
The family would like to thank Dr. Shamma and the staff of Greenbrier Valley Medical Center, especially Dreama Sims Porterfield, for their attention and care.
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m., Saturday, July 18, 2009 at the Pine Grove United Methodist Church at Gap Mills with the Rev. Mark Smearman and Rev. Billy Reed Wickline officiating.
Masonic graveside rites will be conducted by Monroe Lodge No. 77 AF & AM at Carmel Cemetery following the memorial service.
Friends may call at the church from 1:30 p.m. until service time.
Following the graveside service the family welcomes friends to the “farmhouse” as they celebrate Junior’s life.

John William Rogers
OCALA, Fla. — John W. Rogers “Coach” died Monday morning, June 29, 2009 at his home in Ocala. He was 81 years old. He had just returned from a visit to his daughter’s house in Connecticut where he spent his last few days with his two children, Suzanne Rogers Weiss, John David Rogers, and his beloved wife of 32 years, Barbara Rogers.
John was born in Stanaford, W.Va., on April 27, 1928. He graduated from Stoco High School, attended Beckley Jr. College and then graduated from W.Va. Tech. After college he taught at Shady Spring High School and started coaching. He moved his family to Ocala in 1959, where he continued being involved in education and sports; baseball, basketball, and football. After high school John was approached by the Chicago Cubs baseball organization, and after a brief period of spring training he returned home after an injury to start coaching and teaching. He retired in 1991 after contributing 40 years of his life to teaching young people and taught in the Marion County school system for 31 years.
Coach Rogers was known to go the “extra mile” as a coach and teacher. As a leader he made indelible contributions to the lives of many young people.
John is survived by his wife Barbara Rogers, Ocala; daughter, Suzanne Rogers Weiss, Greenwich, Conn.; son, John David Rogers, Ocala, Fla.; step-daughters, Debbie Grant and Cindy Parker of Ocala; and Geniece Collins of Summerfield, Fla.; ten grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
John attended Oakcrest Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, usher, Sunday School teacher, and greeter. He truly loved “all” of his church family.
Funeral services will be held at Oakcrest Baptist Church on Thursday, July 2, 2009 at 11 a.m. with Rev. William D. Terrell officiating. Interment will follow at Good Shepherd Memorial Gardens.
Viewing will be 5 to 7 p.m. today, Wednesday, July 1st, at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services, Ocala Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make contributions to Oakcrest Baptist Church Stained Window Fund.

Doran Jefferson Stover
Doran Jefferson Stover, 79, of Workman’s Creek, died on Saturday, June 27, 2009 at McGuire VA Medical Center in Richmond, Va.
Born August 13, 1929 at Clear Creek, he was the son of the late Clina and Ina Toney Stover.
He was a retired farmer.
Mr. Stover served in the US Army in the 101st Airborne Division and also the 6th Infantry Regiment. He was stationed in Berlin, Germany.
He enjoyed gardening and sharing stories with his family and friends.
In addition to his parents, a sister, Nannie Terry and five brothers, Maben, Rondie, Ray, Jackie and Quincy preceded him in death.
He is survived by a brother, Warren Stover and wife, Gladys; sisters-in-law, Elvis Stover, Josie Stover and Patricia Stover; many nieces and nephews and friends.
Services will be 1 p.m. today, Wednesday, July 1, 2009 at the Workman’s Creek Methodist Church, with Rev. Jerry Tyree officiating. Burial will be at Workman’s Creek Cemetery at Workman’s Creek.
Visitation was held 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Tyree Funeral Home, Mount Hope, and may call one hour prior to the services today, Wednesday at the church.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Eric Paul Stover
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Eric Paul Stover, 50, of Knoxville, formerly of Maple Fork, died Saturday, June 27, 2009, at his home.
Born July 8, 1958, at Beckley, W.Va., he was the son of Lovell A. Williams Stover of Maple Fork and the late Lacy B. Stover.
He was a Security Guard for Searay Boat Company of Knoxville.
Mr. Stover was a member of the Bradley Presbyterian Church and was a U.S. Navy veteran.
A nephew, Logan Seth Ward preceded him in death.
In addition to his mother, Eric is survived by two brothers, Lacy Byron Stover and wife, Donna of Maple Fork and Alan Gene Stover and wife, Wanda of Knoxville, Tenn. and one sister, Rose Mary Ward and husband, Issac of Maple Fork; four nephews; five nieces and a special friend, Thomas Noe, also survive him.
Services will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday, July 2, 2009, at Tyree Funeral Home, Mount Hope, with Pastor Elizabeth Stone officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.
Friends may call one-half hour prior to the service on Thursday at the funeral home.

John William Walters
CORLISS — John William Walters, 82, of Corliss, passed away Monday morning, June 29, 2009, at Heartland of Rainelle, following a short illness.
Born April 26, 1927, at Corliss, he was the son of the late Kyle and Lula Harris Walters.
He was a member of Minnie Belle Baptist Church of Corliss, and had worked as a lumber stacker at several area sawmills. One of his greatest joys in life was raising big gardens every year, that he shared with the community.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine Ann Gibson Walters in 2002; a son, Robert Walters; a great-grandson, Tyler Ramsey; a brother, Harliss Walters; two sisters, Margie Carte and Nancy Jones.
Survivors include a daughter, Patricia Terry and husband, Frank of Danese; three sons, Charles Walters and wife, Janice of Morristown, Tenn., John Jr. Walters and wife, Tiny of Orient Hill and Kevin Walters and wife, Heather of Meadow Bridge; a brother, Arvel Walters of Rainelle; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, July 2, 2009, at Wallace & Wallace Chapel in Rainelle, with Pastor Gene Lloyd Bennett officiating. Burial will follow in John W. Rider Memorial Cemetery at Corliss.
Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. today, Wednesday at the funeral home.
