Glenna Mae Flack Aleshire
BUCHANAN, Va. Glenna Mae Flack Aleshire, 62, of Buchanan, passed away Wednesday, June 24, 2009, in the Carrington Place Care Center in Troutville, Va., after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born May 17, 1947, on the Andrew Ghisholm Home Place near Fort Spring/Alderson, W.Va., and was the daughter of the late Charles Edward Kiser Flack Sr. and Margureitte Louise Shires Flack.
Mrs. Aleshire had been a resident of Buchanan, Va., for the past few years. Glenna graduated from Greenbrier High School in 1966, where she was a member of the FHA and the volleyball team. She attended Century Business College in Huntington, W.Va., and Bokono Business Administration in Charleston, W.Va. She retired from CAMC Memorial Division Hospital in Charleston. She was a former member of the Riverwood Baptist Church in St. Albans and attended the Trinity Methodist Church in Buchanan County, Va. She was a former secretary and assistant den leader for the Cub Scouts of America while residing in St. Albans and was active in the Boy Scout Troop 131 in Buchanan, Va.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Carol Flack Taylor and three brothers, Charles E. Flack II, Jacob H. Flack and John W. Flack.
Survivors include her loving husband, Ben Delano Aleshire of Buchanan, Va.; her daughter, Krystal J. Kinney of Florida; her grandson, Preston T. Settle of St. Albans; four sisters, Mary Flack Blake (Roger) of Ronceverte, Margureitte Flack Ratliff (Larry) of St. Albans, Ethel Flack Martin of Lewisburg and Anna Flack Wong (Greg) of Clintonville; two brothers, Robert H. Flack (Rebecca) of Poca and Sidney E. Flack of Alderson; several special nieces and nephews; and her Aunt Glenna Shires Secor of Maryland; her sister-in-law, Matilda Aleshire Vance of Charleston, S.C.; four brothers-in-law, Don Aleshire of Buchanan, Va., Max Aleshire of Nashville, N.C., Alvin Aleshire of Frankford and Bedford Aleshire of Greensboro, N.C.
Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, June 27, 2009, at the Longanacre Funeral Home Chapel in Fairlea, with Sister Virginia Pitsenbarger and the Rev. Mike Nutter officiating. Burial will follow in the Mount Vernon Cemetery in Fort Spring.
Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Friday, June 26, 2009, at the Longanacre Funeral Home in Fairlea.
Family members will serve as pallbearers.

Peggy Jane Dickens
FLAT BRANCH On Monday, June 22, 2009, our beloved Peggy Jane Dickens of Flat Branch (Arnett) passed away at the Bowers Hospice House following a battle with cancer. She was 62 years of age.
Born December 16, 1946, at Flat Branch, Peggy was the first of six daughters born to the late Luther James and Delcie Combs Dickens.
A resident of Flat Branch for many years, Peggy was a long-time employee at King Tut Drive-In in Beckley. She was of the Christian faith. At the end of the day, Peggy Dickens was loved by many people. She will be remembered. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, David Earl Dickens.
Peggy was the loving mother of one daughter, Rebecca Warden and her husband Penny of Cool Ridge; the doting grandmother of Robert and Briana; the dear sister of Wilma Harvey and her husband Jackie of Flat Branch, Linda Honaker and her husband Alan of Beckley, Nevada (Chicky) Pientowski and her husband Stanley of Newton, Miss., Katherine Bennett of Orlando, Fla., and Tresa Massey and her husband Lee Roy of Arnett; her half-sisters, Anna and Kim also survive; several nieces and nephews and many friends also survive.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the Flat Branch Baptist Church with the Rev. Andrew Davis officiating. Burial will follow in the Massey Cemetery. Friends may visit Friday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. at the church and one hour prior to the services on Saturday. Family members and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Flowers are a very kind gesture, but at this difficult time for the family, donations to help defray the funeral expenses would be greatly appreciated.

DUNNS Ella Graye Lilly, 81, of Dunns, W.Va., died Thursday, June 25, 2009, at 4:20 a.m. at Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital following a long illness.
Born on September 24, 1927, at Dunns, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Otis Oscar Meador and Lily Dail Meador.
She was a retired machinist and had made her home in Ohio for many years, before returning to Dunns, W.Va., to make her home.
Mrs. Lilly was a member of the Mountain Creek Missionary Baptist Church at Dunns, W.Va.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Margie Eillison, by a brother, Wilford Meador, and a grandson, Joel Rowsey.
Surviving are her husband, Dallas Golf Lilly; sons, Dallas Mitchell Lilly and wife Joanne of Gas City, Ind., and Jeffrey Mark Lilly of Lorain, Ohio; daughters, Janet Kay Venefra and husband Julius of Olmsted Township, Ohio, and Donna Rene Lilly of Cleveland, Ohio; brothers, Dan Meador of Ohio, Jimmie Meador of Ohio; sisters, Tean Bowling, Mae Parker, Brenda Smerek, Rose Adkins, Wanda McNeil and Jo Hanel, all of Ohio; and grandchildren, Jay Venefra, Jamie Venefra, Jonathan Venefra, Jeff and Erin Lilly and Joseph and Jordyn Lilly.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, June 29, 2009 at the Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home Shady Spring Chapel with Pastor Tom Ellison officiating. Burial will follow at the Dunns Cemetery at Dunns, W.Va. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6-9 p.m. Sunday. Family and Friends will serve as pallbearers.

MULLENS Beatrice Ann McKinney, 36, of Mullens went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 23, 2009, at her residence.
Born June 15, 1973, in Mullens, she was the daughter of Bobby Gene McKinney of Mullens and Daisy Mae Ross McKinney of Kegley.
Beatrice was a homemaker.
Those left to cherish her memory include her companion of 20 years, Haskel (Hack) Harrison of Mullens; two daughters, Amanda Dawn and Jessica L. McKinney, both of Mullens; a son, Micheal McKinney of Mullens; and her only granddaughter, Jayden of Mullens; her father, Bobby Gene McKinney of Mullens; mother, Daisy Mae Ross McKinney of Kegley; a sister, Bonnie McKinney and her fiancι Timothy Blevins of Oceana; six brothers, Kenneth James McKinney of War, Bobby R. McKinney and his girlfriend, Nancy, Phillip McKinney and his girlfriend, Nadine, Billy McKinney, Steven Vickers and his wife, Miranda, all of Mullens and Richard Gene Vickers of Huntington.
Others left to cherish her memory include nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and many friends.
Graveside services and burial will be noon Saturday, June 27, 2009, at the Mitchell McKinney Cemetery, at Basin with Dan Coalston officiating.
Friends may call from 10-11 a.m. Saturday at Tankersley Funeral Home, Mullens.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

HIX Jo Ann Reed, 75, of Hix, died at 2:45 p.m. Wednesday, June 24, 2009 at Princeton Community Hospital, following a long illness.
Born July 19, 1933, in Hinton, she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Dove Ratliff Shrader.
Mrs. Reed was a homemaker and member of Chestnut Grove Baptist Church at Hix.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Billy Shrader.
Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Grover Reed; two sons, Jimmy Reed of Hilldale and Jackie Reed of Huntington, W.Va.; one daughter, Julie Reed of Hinton; two brothers, Beecher Butler of Columbus, Ohio, and Bob Shrader of Kennebunkport, Maine; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 27, 2009, at Chestnut Grove Baptist Church in Hix with Pastor Benny Allen officiating. Burial will follow in Lilly-Crews Cemetery in Nimitz. Friends may call from 1 p.m. until time of services Saturday at the church.

Oscar Phelix Tennant
OAK HILL Oscar Phelix Tennant, 93, of Oak Hill, W.Va., died Wednesday, June 24, 2009, at Plateau Medical Center in Oak Hill, W.Va.
He was born October 22, 1915, at Prince, W.Va., the son of the late John A. and Sarah Beasley Tennant and stepson of the late Dotsie Hobbs Tennant.
He was a retired engineer for N&W Railroad, and he worked at Mullens, W.Va.
Mr. Tennant was a member of the Oak Hill Baptist Church, where he attended the Donnelly Bible Class. He was the sole surviving member of the Oak Hill High School Class of 1936.
His wife of 67 years, Ethel Geneva Rodes Tennant; daughter, Betty Jean Bishop; son, Larry A. Tennant; brother, John W. Tennant and a grandson, John L. Tennant II, preceded him in death.
Survivors include one son, John Tennant and companion, Dee Jones of Hayward, Calif.; one grandson, Terry Bishop and wife, Lisa; two granddaughters, Debbie Miller, Lisa Tennant Wamsley and husband, Steve; eight great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by close friend and caregiver, Daisy Shrout.
Oscar Tennant will be sadly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, June 27, 2009, at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill with the Rev. David Sneed officiating. Burial will be at High Lawn Memorial Park in Oak Hill. Friends may call one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home.

Verna Mae Settle Wickline
WRISTON Verna Mae Settle Wickline, 74, of Wriston, W.Va., died on Thursday, June 25, 2009, at her home.
Born March 23, 1935, at Fayette County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Herbert and Merle Pennington Settle.
She was a homemaker.
Her husband, Charles R. Wickline, preceded her in death.
Survivors include one daughter, Jeannie Blevins of Wriston, and two sons, Steve Wickline of Daniels and Russell Wickline of Huntington.
She is also survived by five grandchildren, Kim Higginbotham of Edmond, Sherry Wickline of Leesburg, Va., Charles Wickline of Locust Grove, Va., Tracy Wilson of Fayetteville and Shane Wickline of Wriston; and four great-grandchildren, Felicity Kees of Ranson, Allison Wilson and Lilly Wilson both of Fayetteville, and Kayla Higginbotham of Edmond.
Mrs. Wickline was cremated. A Celebration Life will be held on Saturday, July 4, 2009, at her residence in Wriston, beginning at 2 p.m.
