Freda D. Reid Blankenship
Freda D. Reid Blankenship, 77, of Parsonage Drive, Daniels, was reunited with her son, Pete Anthony Pizzino, early Monday morning, May 12, 2008, after a long illness.
Born April 7, 1931, at Itmann, she was the daughter of the late Mary Jane Baugh and Harry Reid of Sabine.
Mrs. Blankenship grew up in Wyoming County, having lived at Lester and Harper Road before moving to Daniels. She attended Beaver Church of God, where she loved to sing and give praise to the Lord. She loved the Lord and professed his love to her family and grandchildren.
She enjoyed crocheting, crafting, quilting, crossword puzzles and yard sales. She collected angels, often bought for her with love by her husband. Her enjoyment was people and giving her handmade items or gifts to “special people.”
One of her greatest accomplishments that she was proud of was her ability to write. On Aug. 17, 2003, she received an award from The International Society of Poets for her outstanding achievement in poetry. Her writings were published in books, on plaques and on audio tapes.
She loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren with all of her heart. She had a love for animals, especially her dogs, Bubba, Molly, Zander and Lucky.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her first-born son, Pete Anthony Pizzino, on Nov. 30, 1996, whom she loved dearly. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Herbert Reid, and two sisters, Dorothy Whitt and Pauline Burleson.
Survivors include her loving husband of 59 years, Haven J. Blankenship, who cared for her unconditionally; a son, Roger H. Blankenship and wife, Rose, of Crab Orchard; three daughters, Diana Penn of Stanaford, Pam Payne of Beckley and Bridgette Blankenship of MacArthur; two brothers, Harry Reid Jr. of Glen Rogers and Kyle Reid of Hiram, Ohio; two sisters, Juanita Phillips of Beckley and Jurline Reed of Daniels; her grandchildren, John Barringer, Mickey, Micheal and Tonya Payne, Damian and Jeremy Blankenship, Amanda Acord, Ashley Mullins, Mark Pizzino, Donald Miller and Beverly Lehew; and several great-grandchildren.
Service will be 1 p.m. Thursday, May 15, at Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home Chapel, Beckley, with Bishop J.L. Clyburn officiating. Entombment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Mausoleum of Hope (Building No. 4), Beckley.
Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home and one hour before service Thursday.

Mary M. McClung Buster
SOUTH CHARLESTON — Mary M. McClung Buster, 76, formerly of Montgomery and Rainelle, went home to be with the Lord after a long and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer on Mother’s Day Sunday, May 11, 2008, at her residence.
Born Aug. 4, 1931, at Richwood, she was a daughter of the late Wally F. and Armintie Chapman McClung.
She was retired from Merchants National Bank in Montgomery, a graduate of Rupert High School and a member of First Baptist Church of South Charleston.
Mary was preceded in death by her first husband, John A. Johnson Jr., and her second husband, Charles E. Buster Jr.; a sister, Eunice Teter; and two brothers, Samuel and Andrew E. McClung.
Survivors include a son, Mike Johnson and wife, Shelby, of Charleston; a daughter, Jeanne K. Attilli and companion, Jack Redden, of Grandview; a stepdaughter, Nancy Buster of South Charleston; a grandson, Nick Attilli and wife, Megan, of Prosperity; two granddaughters, Marion Robinson and husband, James, of Martinsburg and Amy Johnson and fiancé, Joey Miller, of South Charleston; five great-grandchildren, Crystal and Jordan Johnson, Kaden and Josselyn Robinson and Trenton Attilli; two brothers, John McClung of Danese and Lee McClung and wife, Blackie, of Crawley; three sisters, Leda O’Dell of Quinwood, Florence Franzell of Fredericksburg, Va., and Anne Wright and husband, Sam, of Hilton Head, S.C.; and many special nieces and nephews.
Service will be 3 p.m. Thursday, May 15, at Wallace Memorial Mausoleum Chapel, Clintonville, with Pastor Jody Pistore and Mr. Terry Lee McClung officiating. Entombment will follow in the mausoleum.
Friends may call one hour before service Thursday at the mausoleum chapel.

Neva Crabtree
OAK HILL — Neva Crabtree, 83, of Oak Hill, went home to her eternal home Saturday, May 10, 2008.
She was born March 26, 1925, at Export, the daughter of the late Ernest D. Smith and Georgia Jones Smith.
Neva was preceded in death by her husbands, Paul Haynes and Earl Crabtree. Also waiting to greet her in Heaven are her beloved sister, Stella Duncan; sons, Paul Wayne Haynes, and Donald James Crabtree; and a daughter, Martha Jane Haynes.
Neva was employed by the former Oak Hill Hospital, the owner of Neva’s Nook, a diner in East End, Oak Hill, and was a baker and cook for Richard’s Steak House in Ironton, Ohio, and McClure’s Restaurants in Ashland, Ky., and Coal Grove, Ohio.
Neva’s faith was an important part of her life. She was a life-long member of Fellowship Memorial Baptist Church in Oak Hill.
She loved to sew and quilt, bake and cook until failing health prevented her, but most of all her greatest joy was to spend time with her family and friends.
Those left to mourn her passing, a beloved sister, Stella Stanley; three daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and Kermit Nance of Ironton, Pauline and Richard Walker of Austin, Texas, and Gail and Paul Coleman of Oak Hill; daughter, Sheila Robinson of Oak Hill; son, Earl James Crabtree of Oak Hill; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and many friends.
Her remains rest at High Lawn Funeral Home Chapel, 1435 E. Main St., Oak Hill, where the family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. today and where the funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday with the Rev. Robert Isaacs and the Rev. Bill Parker officiating. Interment will follow in Gethsemane Memorial Gardens, Oak Hill.

Randy H. Hardy
OAK HILL — Randy H. Hardy, 52, of Oak Hill, died Sunday, May 11, 2008, at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.
Born June 21, 1955, at Rainelle, he was the son of the late John and Pearl Carr Hardy.
Mr. Hardy was a member of Salem Road Free Will Baptist Church.
Working with Jan-Care since 1976, Randy was chief supervisor and a critical care paramedic.
He was a member of the Fayette County Vertical Rescue Team, a dive master and a former member of the Rainelle and Ansted Fire Departments.
Survivors include wife, Suzette M. Bretz Hardy; a son, John Hardy of Roanoke, Va.; a daughter, Sonia Hypes and husband, Daniel, of Rogersville, Tenn.; two stepdaughters, Alyssa Martin of Morgantown and Aimee Martin of Morgantown; four sisters, Kay Sencindiver of Inwood, Carol Morris of Prince George, Va., Tina Mann of Statesville, N.C., and Cindy Grimmett of Rainelle; a brother, Mike Hardy of Clintonville; and an aunt, Ruth Carr of Rainelle.
Service will be 11 a.m. Friday, May 16, at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill, with Pastor Eric Dangerfield and his brother in Christ, Kenny Garrett, officiating. Burial will be at Restlawn Memory Gardens, Victor.
Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 15, at the funeral home.

Betty McVey
Betty McVey, 82, of Crab Orchard, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, May 10, 2008, in a Martinsville, Va., hospital.
Born Aug. 15, 1926, in Whitesville, Ky., she was the daughter of the late James Morgan and Cora Ledford Skiles.
Betty was a homemaker. She attended Prosperity Baptist Church and had been a resident of Crab Orchard for the past 55 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Willard Worth McVey; sisters, Minnie Cox and Margaret Smart; and brothers, Joe, Jimmy, Robert and Denny Ray Skiles.
Survivors include daughters, Rita Lambert of Raleigh, N.C., Doris “Dee” McVey-Mehta and husband, Behari Mehta, of Plymouth Meeting, Pa.; son, Pastor Roy McVey and wife, Carolyn, of Collinsville, Va.; grandchildren, Jeffrey McVey and wife, Marti, Cheryl Lewis and husband, Phil, Dr. April Lambert-Drwiega and husband, Robert, Benjamin McVey and wife, Heather, and Aaron Lambert; five great-grandchildren; and brothers, Bill Jack Skiles and wife, Helen, of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Gene Douglas Skiles and wife, Vera, of Bradley.

Raymond Miller
OCEANA — Raymond Miller, 74, of Oceana, lost the battle with cancer, but received his wings on Monday, May 12, 2008, at Raleigh General Hospital, Beckley.
He was born Jan. 19, 1934, in Cyclone, a son of the late Cleophas and Dollie Maynor Miller.
Raymond was a member of Oceana Freewill Baptist Church and a foreman for 30-plus years at Eastern Associated Coal Corp.’s Kopperston Mine.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Elsie Smith, Garnet Miller and Ruby Miller; and six brothers, Nathan, Maxwell, Troy, Estel, Junior and Arbry Miller.
Raymond was the last survivor of his immediate family.
Survivors include his loving daughter, Sherry Bailey and husband, Gene, of Sunhill; and a loving son, Ray Miller, with whom he made his home; a grandson, Eugene Bailey and wife, Miranda; a very special great-granddaughter, Jaiden Bailey; many nieces and nephews; and a host of other loving family and friends.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Thursday, May 15, in the Chapel of Stafford Family Funeral Home, Lynco, with the Rev. Jackie Grimmitt officiating. Raymond will be laid to rest in Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny.

George Garland Osborne
WALTERBORO, S.C. — George Garland Osborne, 77, formerly of Rupert, passed away Saturday, May 10, 2008, at his home following a long illness.
Born May 11, 1930, in Greenbrier County, he was a son of the late George Delbert and Blanche Fleshman Osborne. He was a retired coal miner, having worked for 24 years for Leckie Smokeless Coal Co. at Anjean and was a member of Welch Creek Baptist Church and a member of UMWA Local No. 1698. He loved to hunt and fish and will be remembered of his love of woodworking and metal detecting.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Ollie Ruth Osborne; a son, Larry Thomas Osborne of Knoxville, Tenn.; two daughters, Shelby Jean Osborne and her husband, Berry Row, of Belington and Barbara Ruth Martin and her husband, Bruce Allen, of White Sulphur Springs; a sister, Glenna Jane Tuck of Rainelle; four grandchildren, Jeanette Marie Brown and Brandon Osborne Highbaugh, both of Louisville, Ky., Bruce Allen Martin Jr. of Rupert and Dwayne Garland Martin of Charlotte, N.C.; and four great-grandchildren, Douglas Krauth, Hayden Brown, Dylan and Levi Martin.
Service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, May 15, at Smathers Funeral Chapel, Rainelle. Burial will follow in Wallace Memorial Cemetery, Clintonville.

Randy Lee Pettry II
Randy Lee Pettry II, 21, of Dameron, died Sunday, May 11, 2008, at Raleigh General Hospital as a result of an automobile accident.
Born at Beckley on March 23, 1987, he was the son of Randy Lee Pettry and Jo Anne Clay Pettry of Dameron.
Randy was a 2006 graduate of Liberty High School, and was of the Pentecostal faith. He was an avid musician, having played the guitar and mandolin. He was an outdoorsman, having enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member of the Coal River Volunteer Fire Department, having the No. 34.
Randy had once been employed by Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home as an attendant.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Vinson Pettry; great-grandmother, Margie Fleshman; and great-grandparents, Dempsey and Bernice Dickens.
Surviving other than his parents are a brother, Joshua Pettry of Dameron; paternal grandmother, Zettie Pettry of Dameron; and maternal grandparents, Wayne and Margaret Clay of Arnett.
Service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Harper Free Methodist Church with the Rev. Darrell Stapleton officiating. Burial will follow at Fleshman Cemetery, Dameron. Full fireman’s honors will be conducted.
Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the church.

RAINELLE — Dolphine Carol Vandall, 73, of Rainelle, passed away late Saturday evening, May 10, 2008, at Greenbrier Valley Medical Center, Fairlea, following a long illness.
Born April 10, 1935, at Kessler, she was the daughter of the late Lerman G. and Louie K. Shafer Worley.
She was a member of Greenbrier Avenue Church of God in Rainelle and a homemaker.
Survivors include five sons, Danny Hiser of Rainelle, Darrell Vandall of Danese, Dennis Vandall of Indianapolis, Ind., Randy Vandall of Sophia and Mark Vandall of Rainelle; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and an aunt, Wilda Shafer of Rupert.
Service will be 10 a.m. Thursday, May 15, at Greenbrier Avenue Church of God, Rainelle, with Bishop Mike Davis and the Rev. Aaron Davidson officiating. Burial will follow at End of the Trail Cemetery, Clintonville.
