Aaron Columbus Baldwin
Aaron Columbus Baldwin, 89, of Maple Fork, passed away Thursday, May 8, 2008.
Born May 14, 1918, he was the son of the late Guy and Martha Baldwin.
Aaron loved tractors and helping other people. He served his country with the U.S. Army. He was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his parents, Aaron was preceded in death by his wife, Clara V. Barber Baldwin; sons, Lloyd Baldwin and Norman Franklin Baldwin; sisters, Lilly Boyd and Athleen Keene; brothers, John Baldwin, Isom Baldwin and James Baldwin; and a grandson, Gary Baldwin.
Those left to cherish his memory include three sons, Virgil Baldwin of Mount Olive, N.C., Randall Baldwin of Goldsboro, N.C., and Wayne Baldwin of Pontiac, Mich.; six daughters, Alice Belcher of Welch, Joyce Prunest of Mount Hope, Irene Lilly of Goldsboro, Regina Winegar of Pontiac, Betty Wood of Goldsboro and Donna Angell of Goldsboro; two sisters, Dorothy Jarrell of Indianapolis, Ind., and Goldlene Jones of High Point, N.C.; 36 grandchildren, 55 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
Service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, May 11, at Blue Ridge Funeral Home Chapel, Beckley, with the Rev. Jerry Tyree officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Oak Hill VFW Post No. 3110.
Grandsons will be serving as pallbearers.
Friends may gather with the family 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Sharon D. Bradley
MOUNT HOPE — Sharon D. Bradley, 61, of Mount Hope, passed away Tuesday, May 6, 2008.
Born Aug. 16, 1946, in Clay County, she was the daughter of the late Mark and Betty Jane Stewart Kincaid.
Sharon was of the Protestant Faith.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by infant son, Davidson L. Riley Jr.
Those left to cherish her memory include a son, Kenneth D. Riley of Beckley; a daughter, Kathryn Cole and husband, Dale, of Gary, Ind.; a grandson, Justin Cole of Gary; a granddaughter, Amanda Cole of Gary; four sisters, Billie Jean Sipich (Wayne) of Las Vegas, Nev., Bobbie (Rick) Knauer of Illinois, Glenna (Danny) Wood of Cleveland, Ohio, and Terri (Thomas) Boyd of Prestonburg, Ky.; and two brothers, Mark (Woody) Kincaid of Las Vegas and Donald (Michelle) Kincaid of Bradley.
Graveside service will be 3 p.m. today at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley, with the Rev. Bill Bennett officiating.

William ‘Sweetson’ Conard
Mr. William “Sweetson” Conard, 87, of Lester, died Wednesday, May 7, 2008, at Charleston Area Medical Center, Memorial Division, following a long illness.
Born May 28, 1920, in Pemberton, he was the son of the late Annie Robinson.
He was a retired coal miner and veteran.
Mr. Conard was a member of New Hope Baptist Church, Beckley.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Conard.
Left to cherish his memory are sons, William Harvey Conard, Robert (Lorene) Conard and George Conard, all of Boston, Mass., the Rev. Arthur (Janice) Reeves of Brentwood, N.Y., and Leon (Cynthia) Reeves of Jamaica, N.Y.; stepson, Sedrice (Valerie) Foster of Lester; daughter, Gwen (Cyrus) Calhoun; stepdaughters, Ann Taylor and Violet Foster, both of Beckley; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Service will be noon Monday, May 12, at New Hope Baptist Church, 304 Worley Road, Beckley, with the Rev. Nathaniel Carey officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.
Friends may call one hour before service at the church.

Jimmie Lee Crist
RUPERT — Jimmie Lee Crist, 35, of Rupert, passed away at his home on Monday, May 5, 2008, from a sudden illness.
Born Aug. 28, 1972, in Ronceverte, he was the son of the late Roger Dalton Crist and Lucy Ellen Dorsey Crist.
Jimmie was a disabled carpenter and a drummer. He was a member of Duo Community Baptist Church.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by grandparents, William and Mildred Dorsey and Ronald and Maxine Crist; two uncles, Forrest “Bud” Dorsey and Jimmie L. Crist; and two aunts, Brenda Crist Hanshew and Peggy Dorsey.
Survivors include his fiancée, Holly King of Rupert; his mother, Lucy Crist of Rupert; two daughters, Morgan Cook of Lewisburg and Brooklyn Crist of Rupert; a stepdaughter, Payton Williams of Rupert; a son, Chandler Crist of Rupert; a sister, Melanie Crist and companion, Jeff Myers, of Rainelle; a brother, Roger Lee Crist and wife, Tracy, of Crawley; two aunts, Sandy Crist of Rainelle and Delva Moore and husband, Charlie, of Nettie; five nieces, Tiera, Sasha, Lacy, Trinity and Ashley; two nephews, Justin and Cory; and a great-niece, Rylee.
Service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, May 11, at Wallace & Wallace Chapel, Rainelle, with Pastor Mark Taylor officiating. Burial will follow at Wallace Memorial Cemetery, Clintonville.

Luther M. Goode
MENASHA, Wis. — Luther M. Goode, 91, of Mena-sha, formerly of Hinton, died Tuesday, May 6, 2008.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Monday, May 12, at Hilltop Cemetery, Hinton. There will be no visitation.

Rev. Hubert H. Groves
RIPLEY — The Rev. Hubert Harold Groves, 75, of Ripley, died Wednesday, May 7, 2008, at Charleston Area Medical Center.
Born Aug. 12, 1932, at Canvas, he was the son of the late Verner C. Groves and Lucille McCombs Groves.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Ervin.
Hubert was a retired United Methodist minister. He was a member of the West Virginia Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church. He began his ministry in 1966 with the Green-ville Charge, followed by the Mannington Charge, Bellepoint Charge, Johnson United Methodist Church in Alderson, Gassaway United Methodist Church and Calvary United Methodist Church at Ripley. After retiring in 1998, he served as pastor of Emma Chapel United Methodist Church at Liberty for five years. Hubert was a member of Ripley Lodge No. 16 AF & AM, as well as a member of Union Chapter No. 122, Order of Eastern Star. Hubert was a loving, supporting and caring husband, father and grandfather.
Survivors include his wife, Edith Groves; a son, Bob Groves and wife, Carol, of Union; daughters, Patty Slagle and husband, Scott, of Idamay and Shelly Cox and husband, Jeff, of Ripley; sisters, Louise Smith of Summersville, Mildred Ball of Augusta, Ga., and Emma Jean Dobbins of Summers-ville; a brother, Herbert Groves of Hicksville, Ohio; 10 grandchildren, Michelle McFall, Jonathan and Lorri Leasure, Bethany Leasure Eakin, Caleigh, Ryan, Chri-stopher Neil, and Taylor, Maggie and Lindsay Cox; and three great-grandchildren, Kristin Bostic, Zack McFall and Audrey Eakin.
Service will be 7:30 p.m. Sunday, May 11, at McCoy’s Conference Center, Ripley, with the Rev. Terry Deane officiating. Burial will follow at Wallace Memorial Cemetery, Clintonville.
Visitation will be noon to 2 p.m. Monday. Friends may visit the family 2 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the conference center.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Dorothy Meador Hamilton
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Dorothy Meador Hamilton, 89, of Fayetteville, formerly of Hinton and Charleston, died Friday, May 2, 2008, from complications following a hip fracture.
Born Nov. 8, 1918, Mrs. Hamilton was the daughter of the late William Green and Hazel Ailstock Meador.
A beloved sister, aunt and friend, she is survived by her sister, Martha Meador Cary of Peabody, Mass.; brother, William Green Meador Jr. of Hinton; Baltimore Police Sgt. Tom Poffenbarger of Hamstead, Md., who was like a son; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-neph-ews.
She was the devoted wife of the late Harry A. Hamilton of Charleston and Fayetteville. Additional siblings include the late Eleanor Meador Wise of Lathrup Village, Mich., and the late Norward A. Meador of Kenn-sington, Md.
She graduated from Bowling Green Business College in Bowling Green, Ky. She worked for West Virginia state government for some time, and at one time was secretary to the Senate president. She and her late husband enjoyed traveling and watching the Cincinnati Reds. They lived in Charleston for many years, then moved to Fayetteville in 1987. Mrs. Hamilton was an avid reader and bridge player. She also crocheted beautiful afghans and was a fabulous cook.
Memorial service will be held in Hinton at a later date.

Anthony W. Maddy
Anthony W. Maddy, 37, of Raleigh, died Tuesday, May 6, 2008, of natural causes at his home. He was the son of Clinton and Elveda Lucas Maddy of Raleigh.
Mr. Maddy was born in Chicago, Ill., on Ap-ril 4, 1971.
Mr. Maddy was an avid hunter and enjoy-ed spending time with family, fishing and ATV riding. He was a former coal miner.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Jack and Mildred Patrick Maddy; maternal grandparents, Fred and Florence Lucas, and Mary Lucas; a special uncle, Dallas Maddy; and two cousins, James Maddy and Dallas Maddy Jr.
He was loved and will be greatly missed by his mother and father; other family members include a brother, John Maddy of Sullivan; two sisters, Teresa Maddy of Daniels and Patricia Sluss and husband, Michael, of Jumping Branch; three nephews, Johnathon Maddy and Nathan Maddy, both of Prosperity, and Michael Sluss Jr. of Jumping Branch; and a niece, Makayla Sluss of Jumping Branch. Anthony loved these children as if they were his own. Numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and family and friends also survive.
Service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel, Beckley, with the Rev. Dwayne Will-iams officiating. Burial will follow at Keaton and Lucas Cemetery, Pipestem.
Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

LANDOVER, Md. — James Calvin Smith, 53, of Landover, formerly of Hinton, died Saturday, May 3, 2008.
Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Sunday, May 11, at Esquire Cemetery, Hinton. The funeral procession will leave Pivont Funeral Home at 12:45 p.m. There will be no visitation.

Daisy Allen Lilly Young
Daisy A. Lilly Young, 89, of Beaver, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 8, 2008.
Born Nov. 11, 1918, she was the daughter of the late William and Julina Martin Allen.
Daisy loved her family and enjoyed working in her flower and vegetable garden.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by husbands, Joseph H. Lilly and Ray Young; a son, Thomas E. Lilly; a daughter-in-law, Judith Hatcher Lilly; two brothers, Lewis and Roosevelt Allen; and two sisters, May Boyd and Faye Hooper.
She will be greatly missed by her family, including daughters Alma Lowry and husband, Jim, and Doris Meador and husband, Jimmy; a son, Richard Lilly; eight grandchildren, Lisa, Vanessa, Tom, Gary, Julie, Alex, Nicole and Joseph; seven great-grandchildren, Garret, Megan, Daniel, Mariann, Matt, Jesse and Hollie; a great-great-granddaughter, Audrey; three brothers, Ed, Preston and Charlie Allen; a sister, Minnie Gillenwater; and many other family and friends.
In keeping with Daisy’s wishes, her body was cremated.
A celebration of her life will be 11 a.m. Monday, May 12, with visitation at 10 a.m. at Shady Spring First Baptist Church with Pastor Doug Walls of Ghent Missionary Baptist Church officiating.
Daisy’s favorite color was red, and in her honor, if anyone wishes, they may wear red for her celebration.
In lieu of flowers, donations of sympathy may be made to Hospice of Southern West Virginia, P.O. Box 1472, Beckley, WV 25801.
