OCEANA — James Cla-rence Brunk Jr., 55, of Oceana, passed away Sunday, May 4, 2008, at Raleigh General Hospital.

James was born Oct. 10, 1952, at Craney, W.Va., a son of Clyde Elizabeth Haga Brunk of Craney and the late James Clarence Brunk.

He was a disabled coal miner and a member of the UMWA.

Along with his father, he was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Annie and Jim Atwood, and maternal grandparents, Jim and Ida Haga.

Survivors include his loving wife, Treasa Jean Martin Brunk; his mother, Clyde Elizabeth Haga Brunk of Craney, W.Va.; four stepchildren, Audrey Ann, Pandy, Mark and Matt; an aunt, Stella Riley of Virginia; and a host of other loving family and friends.

Service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, May 8, 2008, in the Chapel of Stafford Family Funeral Home, Lynco, with the Rev. Oza Mullens Jr. officiating. James will be laid to rest in Kopperston Community Cemetery.

CINCINNATI, Ohio — Donna Gene O’Dell Dorsey, 78, passed away on Monday, May 5, 2008, at her home, following a short illness.

Born July 21, 1929, at Orient Hill, W.Va., she was the daughter of Clarence and Cutis McClung O’Dell.

Donna was a member of Evendale First Church of God in Evendale, Ohio, and a graduate of Nicholas County High School.

She was a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and a homemaker.

Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Tom Dorsey; and a sister, Nina Boggs.

Survivors include her husband, L.J. Dorsey of Cincinnati, Ohio; three daughters, Janice Southerland (Jim) of Cincinnati, Ohio, Patty Haggard (Gary) of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Marla Douglass (Scott) of Cincinnati, Ohio; a son, Dean Dorsey (Kay) of Cincinnati, Ohio; a brothers, Curley O’Dell of Richmond, Va.; 10 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.

Service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Wallace & Wallace Chapel in Rainelle, with the Rev. Houston Boothe officiating. Burial will follow in Wallace Memorial Cemetery, Clintonville.

PICKAWAY — Freada Kay Dotson, 61, of Pickaway, died Monday, May 5, 2008, at the Greenbrier Valley Hospital.

She was born March 22, 1947, at Speedway, W.Va., the daughter of the late Haven and Gladys Weiss.

She was a member of the Women of the Moose at Princeton, W.Va., a retired florist and a homemaker.

She will truly be missed, as well as the daily conversations with her sisters.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Don Ray Dotson, in 2005; a sister, Odessa; and two brothers, Reggie and Raymond.

She is survived by a son, Tim Thompson of Pickaway; a daughter, Tracey (Sam) Godby of Union; four brothers, John and Sandy Weiss and Buck and Susie Weiss, both of Princeton, Sam and Randy Weiss of Athens, W.Va.; four sisters, Kathleen and Harold Carter of Crows, Va., Rana Plumley and Darlene Martin of Princeton and Deloris Combs of Kentucky; and two grandchildren, Christopher and Cheyenne Williams.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Green Hill Cemetery in Union with the Rev. Don Trent officiating.

Family will receive friends 6 to 9 p.m. today at the Broyles-McGuire Funeral Home, Union.

Garnet Jarrell Fedukovich



Garnet Jarrell Fedukovich, 79, of Rt. 1 Fayetteville, W.Va., died on Monday, May 5, 2008, at Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley.

Born May 16, 1928, at Chattaroy, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Luther Jarrell Sr. and Hattie Fitch Jarrell.

Mrs. Fedukovich was a member of the Oak Hill Gospel Tabernacle and a homemaker.

Survivors include husband, John W. Fedukovich; one daughter, Vicky Fedukovich of Rt. 1, Fayetteville; a favorite niece who was raised by Garnet and John, Connie McGuire of Fayetteville; three brothers, Luther Jarrell Jr. of Charlotte, N.C., James Jarrell of College Park, Md., Arthur “Pinky” Jarrell of College Park, Md., and two sisters, Louise Mullens of College Park, Md., and Virginia Hollins of Daniels.

She is also survived by several nieces and nephews, and her loving dog, Muffin.

Service will be 2 p.m. Friday, May 9, 2008, at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill with the Rev. Allen Gallimore officiating. Burial will be at Bibb Cemetery at Gatewood.

Friends may call one hour prior to the service Friday at the funeral home.

LINDSIDE — Thomas Clay Johnson, 92, of Lindside, passed away Monday, May 5, 2008, at his home.

Born June 5, 1915, at Jenkin Jones, W.Va., he was the son of the late Thomas and Etta Lefine Johnson.

Mr. Johnson was a coal miner, having last worked at the Itmann Coal Mines in Wyoming County. He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America, a WW II U.S. Navy veteran, served as deacon in a Wyoming County church near Pineville, W.Va., and was a member of the Peterstown Missionary Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Bessie R. Salome Johnson; five brothers, Paul, Posey, Elmer, Luther and Hoover Johnson; three sisters, Alma, Lou and Etta.

Survivors include his wife, Margie Burns Weakley Johnson; three sons, Wylie Johnson of New Richmond, W.Va., Thomas C. Johnson Jr. of Beckley and Donald Johnson of Wren, Ga.; five daughters, Ruth Cahill of Lindside, Etta Mae Ball of Pipestem, W.Va., Virginia Lepord of Harlem, Ga., Shirley Hazelwood of Rocky Mount, Va., and Debbie Acord of Atlanta, Ga.; one brother, Chester Johnson of Pineville, W.Va.; twenty-five grandchildren, thirty-eight great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren; four stepchildren, Warren Weakley of Williamsburg, W.Va., Gerald Weakley of Alderson, W.Va., Donna Norton of Jacksonville, Fla., and Elane Jones of Savoy, Ill.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Thursday, May 8, 2008, at the Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home Chapel in Peterstown, with the Rev. Jonathan Jennings officiating. Burial will follow at the Keaton Cemetery, Greenville, W.Va.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Ann B. Coburn Lane



Ann B. Lane, age 61, of Ghent, lost her courageous battle with cancer on Monday, May 5, 2008, at Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley.

Born Sept. 24, 1946, in Pettry, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Darrell Coburn and Dora White Coburn.

Ann was dedicated to the Ghent Volunteer Fire Department for over thirty years, and was an E.M.T. for twelve years. She was an exceptional cook and gardener, but most of all she loved spending time helping other people.

Other than her father, she was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Elsie and Noah White; paternal grandparents, Arthur and Ethel Coburn; and a grandson, Jason Propps Lane.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of forty-seven years, Mason Lane of Ghent; her mother Dora Coburn; three sons, Terry Lane of Cool Ridge, Rick and wife, Kim Lane, of Cool Ridge and Mike and wife, Karen Lane, of Midland, N.C.; grandchildren, Robert Lane and fiancé, Jess Hall, Jo Jo Wilson, Cecil Barrier and Annette Barrier; great-grandchildren, Michael and Jeremy Trull; aunts, Wanda Quesenberry and her husband, Drexel, of Springfield, Pa. and Lura Elmore and her son, Wade, of Princeton, W.Va. and other aunts and uncles; eighteen nieces and nephews; twenty-seven great-nieces and nephews; brothers and sisters, Jessie and Linda Coburn of Riverside, N.J., Wayne and Jerri Coburn of Ghent, Kenny and Lillie Coburn of Cool Ridge, Barbara and Keith Lilly of Cool Ridge, Arlene and Rick Akers of York, S.C., Gary Coburn of Cool Ridge; special friends, Terri Dawn and her daughter, Emily, and other special friends, Ellen, Cora, Mary Sue and Errol, Nellie, Kenneth and Ruby, Bob and Carol, Jim and Sue, Barb and Jim and many more.

Service will be 3 p.m. Thursday, May 8, at the Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home in Shady Spring with Pastor Delmas Wolfe officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Sunset Memorial Park in Beckley.

Serving as pallbearers will be Jimmy Coleman, David French, Russell Shrewsberry, Dwight Shrewsberry, Scott Wilburn, James Belcher and John Akers. Honorary pallbearers are Ray Adkins, Rick Morrison, Ray Coleman, Eddie Matherly, Jethro Walker and Dr. Pittsenbarger.

Following the committal, a reception in Ann’s honor will be held at the Ghent Volunteer Fire Department in Ghent.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Ann’s honor be made to the Ghent Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 99, Ghent, WV 25843.

Calbraith H. ‘Cal’ Lilly



Calbraith H. “Cal” Lilly, age 88, of Raleigh, died Sunday, May 4, 2008, at the Hilltop Center at Hilltop, W.Va., following a long illness.

Born on Dec. 8, 1919, at Camp Creek, W.Va., he was the son of the late H. Clyde Lilly and Ora Fay Moye Lilly.

Mr. Lilly was a retired coal miner, a member of the UMWA, and a World War II U.S. Army veteran. He was a former employee of Raleigh Motors Sales in the Parts Department.

Mr. Lilly was a member of the Mabscott Christian Baptist Church, the Beckley VFW Post and the American Legion.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Arch Lilly.

Survivors include his wife of nearly 61 years, Elizabeth Ann Beasley Lilly; a son, Richard Lilly and wife, Cheryl, of Dayton, Ohio; a brother, A. Harold Lilly of St. Petersburg, Fla.

Service will be 1 p.m. today, Wednesday at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley with the Rev. Harmon Davis and the Rev. Doug Holley officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

Friends called 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Accoma ‘Charlie’ L. Bray Metzger



SHEFFIELD VILLAGE, Ohio — Accoma “Charlie” L. Metzger (nee Bray) was called home to be with the Lord after a long illness on Sunday, May 4, 2008. “Charlie” was born in Flemington, W.Va., and currently resided in Sheffield Village.

She graduated from Trap Hill High School in West Virginia, Lorain County Community College with an Associates of Applied Science and an Associates of Nursing – RN. She graduated from Wilmington College with a Bachelors of Science; a major in Psychology and a minor in Sociology.

She was the first female manager for Western Union, a stenographer, secretary at North American Aviation, a substitute teacher in Vermilion schools, a state-certified hypnotist for heath treatment and RN for the Cleveland Veterans Hospital and Lorain Community Hospital. She retired in 1998 as an RN from the State of Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections.

“Charlie” is survived by her daughters, Sandra A. (Martin) Sinnott and Susan R. (George) Kowalczyk; grandchildren, Nolan Sinnott, PFC Orion Metzger, U.S. Army; several cousins, nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews; and her sister Voda Schoen of Tampa, Fla.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Donald W. Metzger (1984); her parents, Harley (1952) and Rosie (nee Warnick) Bray (1984), a sister, Gladys Bishop; and brothers; Royal, Stanley and Harley Jr. (infant) Bray.

Friends may call 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 8, 2008, at the Halteman-Fett & Dyer Funeral Home, 436 N. Broad St., Lancaster, Ohio 43130. Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 9, 2008, at the funeral home with the Rev. Larry Brown officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Rose Cemetery in Lancaster.

Kathryn Saunders Rogers



HINTON — Ms. Kathryn Saunders Rogers, 95, of Hinton, passed away Tuesday, May 6, 2008, at Summers County A.R.H. in Hinton.

She was born Oct. 26, 1912, at Forest Hill, W.Va., and was the daughter of the late Charles E. and Nan Mann Saunders.

She was a homemaker all of her married life. She was a very active 4-H leader, as well as a Sunday School teacher well into her nineties. She was a faithful choir member, but most of all, she will be remembered for her lasting legacy of faith. She was the oldest living member of Fairview Baptist Church at Forest Hill, W.Va.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Mark Rogers, in 2002. Also preceding her in death were ten brothers and sisters; Garland Saunders, Elah Fickley, Delma Hutchison, Mabel Farrell, Reba Milburn, Wayne Saunders, Arlene Cottle, Joe Saunders, Earnest Saunders and June Martel.

Survivors include two sons, Neil and wife, Helen Rogers, of Bloomington, Ind., and Ted and wife, Susan Rogers, of Hinton; seven grandchildren; Stephanie Fantuzzo and husband, Don, of Kokomo, Ind., Jennifer Nicholson and husband, Dave, of Noblesville, Ind., Allison Gallo and husband, Mark, of Indianapolis, Ind., Mark Rogers and wife, Bridget, of Fishers, Ind., Doug Rogers and wife, Kim, of Charlotte, N.C., Greg Rogers and wife, Lori, of Hinton and Jan Crouthamel and husband, Tom, of Madison, Va.; five step-grandchildren, Jennifer Riggleman and husband, Phil, of Elkins, W.Va., Meg Hodge of Statesville, N.C., Sara Kane and husband, Jim, of Chicago, Ill., Kevin Brown and wife, Jennifer, of Indianapolis, Ind., and Jade and Louisa Brown of Seattle, Wash.; thirty-three great-grandchildren, and one sister, Sue Healey of Philadelphia, Pa.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, May 10, 2008, at Fairview Baptist Church at Forest Hill with Pastor Mike McCoy officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Friends may call 6 until 9 p.m. Friday evening at Pivont Funeral Home in Hinton, and one hour prior to service on Saturday at the church.

Grandsons and great-grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Richard ‘Rick’ Alan Williams Sr.



RANDLETT, Okla. — Richard “Rick” Alan Williams Sr., 66, of Randlett, passed away on Wednesday, April 30, 2008, at the VA Hospital in Oklahoma City, Okla., after a long illness.

Born July 23, 1941 in Cirtsville, W.Va., he was the son of Arvilla J. Williams Roggan of Beckley, and the late Manuel Gonzalez and stepson of the late Francis J. Roggan.

Rick lived in Cirtsville until he graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1959. He joined the U.S. Army in 1961 and served four years for his country.

An owner-operator truck driver for over 30 years, he was the owner of Williams Truck Leasing. He retired in 2007. Rick enjoyed classic cars, NASCAR and watching sports, as well as collecting coins and matchbooks.

His beloved dogs preceded him in death – Sassy on April 16, 2008, and Cowboy on April 25, 2008.

In addition to his mother, Rick is survived by his faithful companion of 13 years, Jody Hutchinson of Randlett, Okla., his first wife, Midge Sluss of Beckley; a son, Richard A. Williams, Jr. and wife, Danielle, of Clovis, New Mexico; one daughter, Alica J. Williams and husband, Eddie, of Beckley and three grandchildren, Nathan and Logan Williams of Beckley and Abigayle Williams of Clovis, New Mexico.

Also surviving are several other family members in West Virginia and Ohio, as well as many loved ones and friends in Oklahoma.

In accordance with his wishes, Rick was cremated.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, May 8, 2008, at the First United Methodist Church in Beckley with Dr. Bob Stoddard and the Rev. David Rumberg officiating. The WV Honor Guard will perform a military flag folding ceremony.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 217 S. Heber Street, Beckley, WV 25801.
